Root River Inn & Suites

Modest room decor with just what is needed to stay in biking country. Ground and amenities are lovely with great views of surrounding area. Quaint partnership with local bakeries for breakfast pastries. Beds could be more comfortable, but service and access to amenities are wonderful. Love the commons room with hot beverage and oatmeal options.

We stayed here with 8 other bicycle riders to enjoy the Root River Trail. Each couple had there own room/suite. All rooms were very unique with plenty of character and some with spacious verandas with neat views. The owners, Ryan and Allie have taken much care with this historic property and go to great lengths to ensure full satisfaction 😀. Highly recommend 👌

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Root River Inn. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The fresh pastries in the morning were amazing. When we weren't on our bikes, we enjoyed sitting out on the patio and in the garden. Enjoyed chatting with the hosts on several occasion and they made sure we were happy and content.

We stayed 3 nights at the Inn and loved it. The rooms are updated and comfortable with clean, modern touches. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and there are several spots to sit and relax--there's even a hammock! Our favorite spot was the Adirondack chairs on the upper balcony. There's a great little room with round-the-clock coffee and tea available and in the morning they have pastries from the bakery down the street. The owners are lovely people who made time to stop and chat with us, and other guests, to make sure everything was great with our stay. We look forward to making this a regular stay!

The location is perfect! Right in the middle of the action, close to all the shops and restaurants, with easy access to the trail. Beautiful, quaint, comfortable and clean. Includes secure storage for bicycles. The self check-in and check-out process was super quick and easy.
We can't wait for our next visit!

We are longtime visitors and former residents of the Lanesboro area. We are drawn to Lanesboro for excellent entertainment at the Commonweal Theatre, and the breathtaking beauty of the Root River Bike Trail.

On our latest trip over Labor Day weekend, we had the pleasure of lodging in the new Mayoral Suite at the Root River Inn. This lovely suite of rooms has every amenity for a most luxurious visit. The king size bed was comfy, the kitchen had everything needed to prepare morning coffee or dinner. The housekeeping is immaculate. This suite has a large bath area and a second room with additional sleeping accommodations. Perfect lodging for a family or in our case to bring the grandkids!

We enjoyed our stay and the innkeepers, Allie and Ryan, so much we have already booked our next stay.

We had a fabulous time at the Root River Inn in picturesque Lanesboro! It sits up on a hill overlooking the river, bridge and main street. We enjoyed the view from the garden and spent lots of time there, drawing, talking and just relaxing. The room was quiet and quaint.
Fresh pastries in the morning and coffee was a treat. We didn’t need the car since everything was in walking distance. . The family that runs the Inn was gracious and friendly. They invited us to come to open mic to listen to local musicians at High Court Pub. We had a great time hanging out and listening to music near the river. I would highly recommend booking more than one night at this historic Inn.

Amazing 2 night stay. Great e-checkin services. Our room was clean with nice amenities. The owners are nice and answered our questions. Great location for all the cool Lanesboro offerings.

Allie & Ryan— the proprietors of the Root River Inn, put their hearts & talents into renovating this 1880’s era building keeping its historic charm, yet implementing the conveniences of home with present day style and comforts!
The grounds are beautifully landscaped which include several gathering spaces as well as our own private patio.
We had the pleasure of an evening seated around the fire, engaged in memorable conversation with Ryan, Allie and other guests.
The Root River Inn is well maintained, clean and welcoming.
Our bed was comfortable which made for a good nights sleep.
Access to the bike trail was just across the street. The fresh locally made pastries, provided each morning in the “ coffee commons” were delicious.
We couldn’t have asked for better hosts or accommodations!
We have been to Lanesboro several times now, the Root River Inn is where you will find us when we return!

My wife and I came down for a trip to do biking and canoeing. This is a great location near town and next to the trails. Easy to get everywhere and we loved the self-check in and check out for a more private experience. No staff on site, but there are ample amenities (snacks, coffee, common spaces) and staff is easy to contact with any questions or concerns. We can easily picture returning.

A group of 6 bicyclists stayed in 3 different rooms. We enjoyed our time in lanesboro and couldn’t be happier we stayed at the inn. Our rooms were updated, clean and had all the things we needed. I will definitely stay here again. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

Found a lovely room at the Root River Inn for a three generation getaway. The room was comfortable and well supplied. Enjoyed our evenings on the patio and our mornings with coffee and pastry from a local bakeries. Look forward to future trips at Root River Inn.

A last minute reservation turned into the most delightful stay I've had in years. The room was comfortable, fresh and welcoming. The grounds beckon you out of your room to enjoy some time in a chair or hammock on the lawn or visiting at a table. Once I arrived at this cute tucked away gem I felt genuinely at home after a long tiring day. Ryan, Allie and family are amazing hosts, their gift of hospitality is amazing. The fresh pastries in the morning from the local bakery were warm and delicious. I look forward to coming back.

Very nice Inn, room was just right, the history of the building and town was interesting,loved the whole setting. The biking was outstanding crossing train bridges and through the woods. Would recommend to anybody.

Exceptionally pleased with our girl-friends get-away stay. When we arrived, it was a 90 degree day, the air was on, place clean, bed, pillows, blankets very comfortable. We needed a cot at the last minute and even though owners were in the cities running errands, they made it back that night to get us set up. Ryan took time to chat with us, such a great personality. The grounds were meticulous, wonderful seating areas, our deck delightful, and the view open, welcoming and serene. Pastries available in the am from a local business were fresh and good quality. We actually ate lunch at that bakery. Great sandwiches. As we looked around, the design of our suite and added touches were well thought out. Highly recommend!

Overall it was a great stay in the Rushford suite. I especially appreciated the quiet, cleanliness, and the attention to detail in the design. I love the simple furnishings, comfortable chairs, the hooks, shelves, the low profile tub easy to step into, night lights, the quiet frig and AC, modern art, and lack of dusty old antiques!

Spent 3 nights and it was a very good experience. The rooms were modern and clean and the hotel had a very nice rustic and comfortable feel to it. There were ample seating areas outside to relax and take in the scenery and a couple propane fire pits were available. Great proximity to the trails. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The place was clean and nicely decorated. Great morning coffee and pastries. Place to store your bikes and close to restaurants and right off the Root River Trail. The bicycle trail is well maintained and tree lined. The town of Lanesboro also has a nice city park with electric vehicle chargers walking distance to the inn. The inn also has common areas inside and outside. The owners are very attentive and friendly.

We had a lovely time at the Root River. Our room was compact and efficient. The shower was great. The location is good. The owners are super nice and helpful--they advised on what play was showing and where to eat. We recommend.
