Pete's Hamburger Stand

They have been doing thing thier way for over 110 years. This was my first ever boiled burger, and it was great the burger and has a great taste to it. The service was great they were super fast and friendly. They even have a park within walking distance to have a great view when you eat.

Gotta love this place! The people in front of us bought all the burgers they had so we had to wait for a new batch to get made. Well, we got fresh burgers and met a nice father and son in line behind us to bs with while we were waiting. Worth the wait. Like there t-shirts say "waiting in line since 1909".

If you want to experience SW Wisconsin food and culture, you need to make a stop at Pete’s. Some people love the burgers, some don’t, but it doesn’t matter, the experience is worth it.

This burger is in the "old school bland" category BUT it's still somehow tasty even with what appears to be no browning on the surface like it's steamed. The whole thing is tender, not salty so the flavor of the beef comes through with those onions. Dang it this is begging for some cheese though, I'm bringing my own slices with me next time ;)

Update: I brought cheese slices and it was just too much. Cheese detracts from this one, they know what they're doing.

My wife grew up in PDC and introduced me to this town institution for the first time during a visit today. They do one thing, and they've done it well for decades. You can have a burger with or without onions. Ketchup, yellow mustard, and brown mustard are your choices of toppings. It's simple. It's effective. It's absolutely delicious.

A WI staple burger joint and must stop when in Prairie du Chien area. Check out the history of this place. It's been around this long for a reason. 2 options With or Without onions doesn't get any simpler than that! Buns are fresh and beef is best around I always get 2 no matter what you can thank me later!

This was a must stop in our vacation in PDC. It did not disappoint!! The burgers were awesome and the wait was minimal. And the only way to have them is with the onions. DELICIOUS!

Been coming to Pete's for a generation now. The lore of the place is just the same as when i was a kiddo. Youll see a line during normal business hours. So catch a spot and enjoy.The procedure.
When ordering st Pete's you'll usually have a little time.
Take it all in. The small-town vibe.
along with the cooked onion and perfectly seasoned burger smell.
The options are straight forward. With or without onions.
With Ketchup , mustard, or dark mustard.

A little pricey but the best and juiciest and an old time feel.

It's an institution and a place I've gone too pretty much all my life. Come from Minnesota just to get these burgers. They are an oddity and kind of like a wet version of white castle if they had bigger burgers. I think they are really quite spendy for what a simple burger it is, but demand is so high for them that they almost have to. Usually you'll be waiting in line quite a while for them.

That's a lot of negatives and there is certainly nostalgia playing into it but they are a unique and tasty burger you can't only get during summer. They don't have cheese or much for condiments, they are simple burgers almost boiled in onion water, and put on a but, with or without onions, add mustard, ketchup (maybe more but I don't tend to look past the mustard as it's the only addition I feel it needs).

Though they close in October, check them out if you haven't next time they are available!

Excellent burgers, a little stranger then what you’re normally used to but the package works really well especially if you get the onions on it. Was well worth the 20 minute wait on a Saturday to get them for the family.

There's a reason there's always a wait at this hamburger stand. The hamburgers are delicious ( juicy and flavorful), the people who work there are friendly, and it's historic because it's been around for over a hundred years. Highly recommended

Love this place. Been coming here since I was a little boy. (The 70s.) Nothing but simple burgers, they’re worth the wait.

A hamburger stand over 100 years old and still some of the best hamburgers I've ever ate in Wisconsin and in fact anywhere. The place where people will stand in line for a half hour and Order 12 hamburgers once they finally make it to the front of the line well worth the wait.

Amazing burgers. 100+ years of doing it the right way. Simple burgers with carmelized onions or not. 3 condiments: ketchup, mustard or horseradish. Thats it, and these burgers don't need anything else. Usually a line so expect to wait but its worth it! Wish they had picnic tables or an eating area thats the only downfall. But the sidewalks have plenty of benches.

We always get Pete's burgers a few times each season. Although the price has gone up, it supports a small, local business that does great work. I get mine with onions, it was delicious!

When a restaurant has one thing on their menu they cook (not gonna include a bag of chips or a soda) you know they have to be good. This little shack looking burger joint is both quick and delious. We were lucky to get in line right before the lunch rush. Only being second in line and when we left the line was over a block long for both windows.

Even if I was at the end of the block in line the burger would be worth the wait.

I grew up in Wisconsin and have lived in 3 other states. I have never forgotten how delicious Pete's burgers were. It's been 50 years. I've been thinking about moving back and I just had to know Pete's was still there.

A must-stop when visiting Prairie du Chien. Always have quick service, even when there's a line down the block.

It was hot, really hot, the line was long and it was still worth it, ain't nothing fancy but they are their special thing and they do them very well and the staff manages to make each customer feel important, my advice is come, eat and enjoy
