Gary's Restaurant

Friends, I have found breakfast nirvana in the unassuming walls of Gary's Homestyle Eatery! This place is so low-key you might just drive right past it, but inside is Southern comfort food that rivals the best of Texas and Georgia.

As a renowned food guru who lives for a hearty morning meal, I've had my share of lauded grits, pancakes, and the like. But Gary's chip beef on toast with a side of cheese grits left me floored. The deftly seasoned, tender chip beef melting into the crispy buttered toast created a mouthparty not to be believed. And the creamy, velvety grits with just the right amount of sharp cheddar made me weep with joy.

My local friend Rachel, who's been coming here for 30 years, implored me to try Gary's despite its humble appearance. And wow, was she right - this place delivers scrumptious Southern fare that exceeds any high-falutin' upscale breakfast joint. The prices are an unbelievable steal, too, since Gary focuses on affordability rather than inflating costs just because they've got a stellar rep.

Within those unpretentious walls, I found the breakfast of my dreams. The warm, welcoming atmosphere and top-notch fare will make Gary's a regular stop on my foodie bucket list travels. Fair warning, the classic Southern cooking is dangerously addictive - I went two days straight after that first heavenly chip beef bite!

So do yourself a favor and get to Gary's stat. Once you become a regular and "everyone knows your name, you're gonna be where you wanna be" and you'll never crave breakfast anywhere else again. Five blissful stars!

My uncle had been coming here for years, loved it. Told me all about how great it was. Finally got a chance to eat here myself.

He was right. It's the best.

Food, staff and prices were all about as good as it gets.

Food was great, we stopped in on the way out of Atlantic City. The food quality was awesome, you can tell they care about what they plate. Coffee and iced tea were the best we have had in a while at a restaurant. Casual environment, the staff was great.

This was my 1st time and definitely will not my last time here at Garys. My wife and i really enjoyed the mid afternoon breakfast. I had the southern style shrimp and grits with the fried green tomatoes and corn bread and eggs. While doing my throw down, i closed my eyes and food tasted so good . I thought i was in Georgia. This was deep down southern cuisine at it finest , superb cooking. Our server Mario was great and always smiling a true professional in doing his job. I recommend to anyone who wants a complete satisfaction of breakfast, lunch and dinner, come to Gary's Restaurant , you will be delighted and satisfied to the Maxx! 👏 ❤

This place is a must visit when in the area. The owner, Gary, is almost always in the restaurant, which is likely a big contributor to why it hasn't gone downhill like so many other places. The food is consistently good and priced reasonably. The servers are fast and friendly. The best diner-like, home cooked food in NJ. Been eating at his restaurants since I was a kid.

Small local diner with fantastic food. We had breakfast, eggs Benedict for her, eggs, scrapple and hash browns for me and we split a Belgian waffle...

More food than we could comfortably stuff down!

The waffle was really, really good. Crispy exterior, light, fluffy and creamy center.

The Benedict was done to perfection, perfect.

The scrapple, I asked for it deep-fried, was perfectly crispy on the outside, eggs over-easy had no running whites...

Lots of great photos on the walls! A friendly little hole-in-the-wall that I would definitely hit again!

We were in the area and wanted some breakfast, just stopped in and we're glad we did.

When the first choice had too long of a wait, we checked Yelp and found Gary's. Im glad we did, because the staff was awesome. Attentive and yet not overbearing. The food was hot, delicious and plentiful. The menu had a nice variety to choose from. We met Gary on the way out and what a friendly guy! We will definitely be back to try lunch one day, as it is literally less than a mile off the AC expressway and before the Garden State Parkway.

Me and my family was looking for breakfast before we went back home to Allentown pa and we found the best breakfast ever! Man everything about this restaurant was amazing! The food came out fast and hot! The food was delicious! They were very friendly too! I highly recommend Gary’s restaurant! I’ll be back! Better than any Denny’s, Perkins, or IHOP! 💯 Thanks Gary!

WHAT A FEAST! New Jersey is known for their
amazing diners and this one was a homerun!
We had biscuits and gravy, eggs benedict, seafood omelette, fluffy pancakes, cream cheese frenchtoast etc.

This was my first time having shrimp and grits. The absolutely best place to try it. Taste was fabulous!

We visited from VA celebrating my brother in laws bday. Breakfast was so good the day we arrived we forgot to take photos. We went back the morning we were leaving and THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT. PORTION, TEMP, TASTE WAS ALL ON POINT. WE WILL BACK

1st time here.. The food and service were perfect! We will be repeat customers when in the area. A hidden gem!!

I don't often write reviews but felt compelled to write one because of the great experience we had at Gary's Restaurant. As another reviewer commented before, Gary's Restaurant is certainly a hidden gem.

The food was fantastic, the service was quick and the staff was lovely. This is definitely a spot we will make sure to visit whenever we travel back to Atlantic City.

This was such a pleasant breakfast experience! The staff is very friendly and the owner is so down to earth and makes you feel right at home! We will definitely be back:)

Walked in and the place was packed. Everybody having conversation eating great vibe, seated beverages on point, went with the Chip beef absolutely 100% AC Mike approved it was delicious fresh ingredients creamy seasoned just right, potatoes were spectacular crispy onions and peppers, couldn't asked for a better meal my lady Lisa got the protein omelette Which she loved, five stars man , I’ve never bad meal there, Gary is awesome greeting everyone talking to his customers which I literally watched him call at least a dozen or more customers walking by name with a hand and or hug, good stuff, hands-down one of my top three favorite places for breakfast and lunch and all of Jersey !

I WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY THE OVERALL ATMOSPHERE AND HOW “GARY” TOOK THE TIME TO GREET PEOPLE WHO WERE WAITING TO BE SEATED AND ENJOY HIS EXCELLENT MENU OF SUPERIOR PREPARED AND QUALITY
DISHES! WHAT I ALSO FELT WAS IMPORTANT WAS THAT “GARY” STOPPED BY EACH TABLE TO INQUIRE IF EVERYONE WAS ENJOYING THEIR MEAL! THE STAFF WAS 5STAR AND MY WAITRESS WAS EITHER REFILLING MY WATER GLASS OR CUP OF COFFEE. I THINK IT IS AN ANOTHER DETAIL TO STATE, IS THAT THE
RESTAURANT WAS SPOTLESS, AND THE
STAFF WAS MAKING SURE THAT THE TABLES & THE FLOORS WERE KEEP CLEANED BEFORE
AND AFTER PEOPLE LEFT EATING! IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, “GARY’S RESTAURANT”
IS A PLACE THAT ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN TO,
YOU WILL BE RETURNING TO AGAIN AND AGAIN.

So many options for breakfast and lunch. We had breakfast. I had creamed chip beef with home fries and two eggs, took half home. Husband had sweet potatoe pancakes and corned beef hash, totally gone! It was all so so good. Decent prices. Very nice staff. Definitely will go again.

It's a pleasure to have real cream chipped beef, I can not believe this was my first visit to Gary's in the 40 years I've lived in the area, but now there is something to look forward too. Top notch staff and great service. I can not wait to return.

This place is definitely a hidden Gem. Great Food, Warm atmosphere, and pleasant Staff. We had the honor of meeting Gary and he was very pleasant and down to earth. We will be back! I highly recommend! -Ryan and Amber
