Cates Creek Greenway/Jefferson Park

We really enjoy Cates Creek Parkway Trail. The paved trail is just off Hwy 291 on the south side of Liberty, Mo. It’s a beautiful walkway tucked in town. The birds were singing and the creek winds through the narrow park.

I give it 5 stars because I grew up here on Beauregarde circle. The creek running through is where you would find us playing everyday. The woods surrounding are really nice and my cousins used to grow weed out there 30 years ago. When the creek froze over every year we would play hockey with sticks we found and fall through the ice, get stuck and almost lose a leg. My brother threw a chunk of metal at my head once and I bled so much it dyed my hair red. I remember when they built Jefferson apartments, we would play on site and step on nails. We used to hop the train that passes through the southern end of woods. Man those were the some good times growing up here..

Quaint & Quiet

Sort of feels like you are just pulling onto some road just to use as a turnaround. Although there are several benches to hang out on. There's not much to look at. This tiny trail/park is rested behind some neighborhoods. We didn't explore the trail, but we did manage to follow the small paths down to the creek. We threw a stick into the water to see if it was fishing material. It is not. The water is very shallow, I'd say about a foot deep of murky water.

South Cates Creek needs repair to picnic bench! Someone stole bolts!!!

North Cates Creek is our favorite hideout for eating take outs during this pandemic...I wanted to say that previously, but didn't want to have others go there too! Lol...

The smell of sewage was overwhelming. All of the creek crossings are built on top of hideous industrial drainage pipes. The paved trail is poorly maintained; very bumpy with weeds growing through the cracks. This "park" is an embarrassment to the city.
