When my husband wanted to go to this museum, I thought "Ugh. Another dry train museum where I have to watch my kids closely to make sure they don't touch/climb where they aren't supposed to." I WAS SO WRONG! This museum is quite hands-on, allowing us to tour the insides of several cars and, with the guidance of an employee, even allowing my children to pull the train horn in the engine! They have signs inside the renovated caboose that encourage you to notice things you might not notice otherwise. My kids loved climbing up into the crow's nest and looking in all the lockers. There are also signs that explain the history of each of their train cars and building spaces, including the very first building you walk into (the Visitor Center) which has ties all the way back to Walt Disney!
The rooms with the model trains are so fun! They have a scavenger hunt that had us circling one of the the rooms over and over, looking for things and finding new things we hadn't previously seen. They have buttons that everyone can push to make things turn on in the model. I think I could spend a week in there and still find new things!
ALL of the employees there are friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable! They told us about the fun things coming up for Halloween and Christmas. Even though it would be quite a drive, I'm tempted to come up!
While really young kids could probably be entertained, I think elementary-age kids and older would enjoy it most, as would any adult even remotely interested in trains (or history, or "find the..." puzzles).
I could tell that the museum employees are passionate about what they are doing here. They are constantly hard at work creating models, renovating train cars, and improving this museum--they currently are waiting for an actual vintage train depot to arrive and are building a children's train. I will definitely be back as we will have to see the new things and the progress on the old things!

This museum is awesome! We took our grandson and he, and we, climbed and touched everything. The exhibits are hands on and the engineers/volunteers are engaging and knowledgeable. It’s clear they love trains, love restoring trains and love talking about trains! We had a great time outside on the large exhibits and inside looking at the models. The engineer inside even put up a NYC subway model on the tracks when he heard that my hubby retired from NYC transit; talk about a custom tour! And when you think it can’t get better, they served us cake because it was National Train Day! Fabulous place to visit.

Great little museum. Every year I come back and they have more exhibits and more model trains set up. Very fun for all ages.

This place was much more interesting than I expected. Outside they had several railroad cars and an engine, all in various stages of restoration. It was fun to see the work being done and those that had been restored. Inside they had multiple model train sets running. It was obvious that much work had gone into that. Since it is a work in progress I think it would be worthwhile to come back later and see what else has been added!

Getting to walk around and through their displays of the old train carsis so interesting. You can touch so much and even climb up ìnto the cupla cupola of a restored caboose. Walking thru the old cars and looking into the narrow gage steam engine used in the lumber industry is really fun.
They have a whole building dedicated to model trains. A very large display with several trains and elaborate set ups, the scavenger hunt is extra fun.
The most amazing set up is a to scale Moffit Tunnel roadway. The details are exceptional.

Great little train museum. Everyone who works there is very friendly and passionate about the museum. We visited during New Year's weekend. Loved the interactive pieces of the railroad train layouts. Everyone in our group really enjoyed the museum (age range 50 - 20 years old).

I am so excited about this museum. It's got a wonderful plan for the future and is already a fun place to visit in 2020. They had a big Christmas train setup when we visited filling a whole space. Then they have a 1905 passenger car like the one that passed through Moffat tunnel they are going to restore in its original authentic graffitied condition until the restoration starts. Out back is a crane car. The future calls for a garden train, more model trains, more real rolling stock, and great landscaping and connections to downtown Granby. It is quite close to the modern railroad station for Granby making it a fun trip from Denver on the California Zephyr, visit the museum, stay a night or two, and hop back on the train. Can't wait to keep coming back as the museum develops.

During a recent visit to Granby, CO, we stumbled upon the Moffat Road Railroad Museum and were absolutely blown away by the experience. The highlight for us was the model train exhibit – a spectacular display of hundreds of model buildings, villages, and figurines, each crafted with an incredible level of detail. It's a world of hidden treasures waiting to be discovered!

The museum is incredibly kid-friendly, which was a huge plus for our family. My children, aged 5, 7, and 11, were thoroughly engaged and entertained, especially with the model train scavenger hunt. They were so captivated by the exhibit that they felt like they were in an amusement park! It's not an exaggeration to say that the exhibit kept them busy and excited for hours.

In addition to the indoor exhibit, there are real trains outside that you can tour and explore. It adds another layer of excitement and education to the visit. The level of detail and work that has gone into every aspect of the museum is very impressive.

What really stood out to us was the passion of the people working at the museum. Their enthusiasm and knowledge about railroad history and model trains added so much to our visit.

I highly recommend the Moffat Road Railroad Museum to anyone visiting Granby. Whether you're a train enthusiast or just looking for a fun, family-friendly activity, this museum is a must-visit. You won't regret it!

5 star! You can go into the different cars and climb into a railroad crane and engine! Had a great lesson in history from Bob. He's legit! It looks small, but it's easy to spend 2 or more hours here. Well worth the money, you gotta support these guys! We had a great time on a spur of the moment stop.

This museum doesn't seem like much but it's actually amazing! It's very hands on so bring your kids. My toddler loved it. They are restoring several trains and there's someone there to show you the train horn and bell. The model train building is another level of amazing. They have a scavenger hunt for different ages and the staff is very kind.

This rail museum had some very cool old rail cars and an engine. The redone caboose was very well done and when the 1st class car is done with its renovation it will be a great feature as well. The big hit was the large train set with a lot of trains running. If you have kids going make sure to take advantage of the scavenger hunt in the train set.
