Booked the Asticou on the recommendation of a friend, noting that if you wanted the real Maine feel this was a perfect spot. Yes, it is a bit old, but given its age, it’s in amazing shape. Rooms are a bit small but clean and great beds. Also, this is an amazing location. Bar Harbor is great, but overrun. Northeast is amazing and I will stay there every time! Above all the service was amazing. The staff was super helpful and very nice. The bartender Kip was one of the best employees I have ever met. A perfect combination of friendly, funny, and helpful. He helped make it a wonderful vacation. Do whatever he recommends!

I booked this place based on the location to Acadia National Park and also something that wasn’t over the top expensive since were road tripping with our two kids to multiple destinations. I honestly have no idea why some people gave it such bad reviews! I was contemplating between giving it 4 to 5 stars since I really only had one complaint. First off, the hotel is over 140 years old. With that said, it’s going to be old! There are going to be things that aren’t perfect, but I loved the old feel and it felt how I imagined being in Maine would be. We had a one bedroom suite and it was perfect size for our kids. There as no air conditioner it they did provide box fans. I’m assuming this is normal for Maine. The water pressure was great and the shower was hot! The view from the Inn is absolutely beautiful and overlooking the Harbor. Breakfast is included which was a huge plus for us and we did enjoy an evening dinner at the restaurant. No complaints and the food was great. The food was extremely expensive but traveling the east coast I was realizing these prices are normal for the area, and tourist location. I loved having dinner outside overlooking the harbor. My only real complaint is the pool area. The pool is great and was so refreshing after a day of hiking, it the upkeep on the pool is lacking. Around the pool needs power washed and weeds pulled. There were weeds all over the pool area. I saw the works cleaning and mopping the indoor Inn multiple times a day, but they need to focus on the pool area. Other than that the service was great. Everyone was friendly, kind and attentive. I also loved the it was on the Northeast side of the Harbor, close to Acadia NP and Bar Harbor, but still a few miles away from the Bar Harbor and set in a more quiet area of the area. We absolutely loved our first time in Maine!

We had dinner at the restaurant. Lovely cocktails and the pop overs are to die for. We started with Abby as our server and, with the shift change, seamlessly switched to Wade. Highly recommend for the service and the VIEWS!

I truly don't understand the negative reviews for staying in the Inn. It's like 150 years old - if you're expecting all the modern amenities and for every nook and cranny to be perfect, I'm sure there's a nice Holiday Inn somewhere close by!

That said, I loved staying here. It was beautiful, and I loved spending time in such a historic building. The room was clean and the staff was kind and helpful. Parking was easy, the views were great, and it was nice to be a little ways away from the activity in downtown Bar Harbor. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

I’m not really sure how this place only has a 4.3 rating. I think some people are just not giving it a fair shake. So, the service was a bit slow, but they seemed a bit understaffed, at this point who isn’t. The history of this inn is incredible, 140 years and still going is pretty impressive! The kitchen staff is very good, everything was done to perfection. The view of the harbor is also beautiful. The prices were reasonable and overall this place is a 5 all day long!

The date was August 7, 2023. My wife and I had ridden our bikes for over 40 miles and it was starting to get dark and rainy. We thought we were on our way back to our campground, but took a wrong turn and were on the other side of Bar Harbor which would've taken us at least another hour to get back. As we continued our ride we came across the Asticou Inn and stopped in for directions. As soon as we entered, we were greeted with a smile by Steven Zepeta at the front desk. He showed us where we were on the map and how far we were from our camp. We then discussed our options and he took the time to ask his assistant manager if he could use the company car to take us back. For him to even think of this was an awesome display of humanity. Imagine our surprise when he came back and said he was given the greenlight to drive us back WITH OUR BIKES! We cannot thank Steven and his supervisor (I wish we had her name) for their kindness. He could’ve easily told us where we were and left it at that, but this young man took the time to take care of us. Oh, and the Inn is absolutely beautiful with an amazing restaurant. We will be back, but as guests next time! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

I've only eaten here and I have to say Chef Lou 👨‍🍳 knocks it out of the park every time we eat there. The food is amazing, the staff are friendly and accommodating and the location is perfect. Highly recommend visiting, tell Chef Lou I sent you.

My company Hager Photography was hired to shoot a wedding at The Asticou this fall and it was such an amazing experience! I didn't want to leave at the end of the night. I'm not exaggerating when I say that If I get booked there again I will try to get a room of my own and make a weekend out of it! I've shot at many venues in the Bar Harbor/Acadia area and this is probably my favorite. The venue is gorgeous, the grounds are scenic, and the staff is wonderful. I was particularly smitten with the design of the reception hall. Beautiful paintings everywhere. I was able to get some amazing portraits of the bride and groom in the botanical garden across the street. You simply can't go wrong with The Asticou for a wedding, event, or for your vacation lodgings.

Enjoy a very spacious historical building overlooking a harbor with a variety of settings for dining. We sat on the back porch and as it started to get cold and foggy they immediately brought a heater over and closed the wind shades without us asking. Excellent service and cuisine. This was the first time I tried a popover and wow, it’s a must. I believe this is the sight of the original popover. Regardless, an order of popovers with blueberry jam or whatever may be seasonal to go with it is a must. Expect a wonderful meal and carefully designed cocktails in a country club like setting with character and a little grass field for kids to run around on below deck.

We ate lunch, with reservations of course, on the deck. Beautiful setting with views of the water and overlooking the grounds of the Inn. Our lunch was relaxed and leisurely and our Server was attentive. The lobster stew and popovers were served at the proper temperature and both servings were delicious. Our table also had a dessert popover, consisting of a warm popover served with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, it was a meal in itself!

We visited the Sticky in MI-September for a lunch of popovers and tea. As always the popovers were delicious. My wife and I had strawberry jam while my daughter and her boyfriend chose blueberry jam. We sat inside due to windy conditions, but from the deck where you can also dine there is a great view of the harbor. We also had very good service.

Every summer when we visit this part of Maine we go to the Asticou. We get popovers and lobster stew for lunch. Both are really fantastic. Most of the seating is outside on the deck which overlooks the harbor. The place is always a real treat. Service this time was very slow and disorganized, but this is the first time we experienced that. Normally service is absolutely fine. I chalk it up to being short-staffed or just a bad day. I highly recommend the Asticou.

Beautiful overlook of the harbor while enjoying popovers and lunch in an inn with heritage. Come in with the expectations of fine dining and the pricing and quality is competitive with the big name big city restaurants.

My husband, myself and 2 bassets stayed at this Asticou this past weekend in one of the Topsider cottages.

We absolutely loved our stay.

The view from our room was incredible. We enjoyed a lovely dinner on the patio and the overflowing sounds of a private party that had arranged a solo violinist. He was incredible!

We had the coconut curry mussels, blueberry bbq flatbread, chickpea cakes and chicken Marbella. All of it was delicious. And finished off with their legendary popovers.

Every staff member was pleasant and accommodating.

We’ll be making this a summer tradition going forward!

If you are looking for a stay in an authentic Victorian Inn, the Asticou ticks all the boxes. All too often hotels feel compelled to "update" the charm out of a historic property. Personally, I love the old wooden floors that creak a bit and the fact that every room is a little different from the next. So what if you can hear other guests down the hall? Keep the thin wooden walls.... be open to experience the life our ancestors lived!

We loved room 101. Spectacular view of the water both from your balcony, the queen bed and from the little window in the shower. It also has a desk with cell charger plug-ins in the lamp. The wifi was strong throughout the Inn.

Lastly, the staff were exceptional. From the moment we arrived till the final wave goodbye. Like so many places, they are understaffed. But that didn't stop one person from being utterly professional and genuinely welcoming to us as guests.

We look forward to when we can visit again.

My family and I came to the Asticou Inn Restaurant for their popover's which is suppose to use the same recipe as those served at the Jordan Pond restaurant without the wait to be seated. In this regard I will give this restaurant a five star rating. The price of two popovers is $8 and well worth it. The popover taste as good as those served at the Jordan Pond Restaurant and the view is as nice if seated outdoor facing the harbor. Also, the staff is super friendly and nice. Other items on the menu is very expensive if you are on a budget. I would come here again. This time I will just order their popover's and a drink.

People will talk about lobster chowder and popovers at another place in the area but you've got to have it here! Not only is the food to die for but the view is perfection. The service is also impeccable and the staff incredibly friendly. Oh and just to validate the choice to come Martha Stewart is on the board of ownership.

I'm borrowing this from another reviewer, get your popovers here! The food was outstanding as well as the service. And the view was incredibly beautiful. I would make a reservation to be safe, but it didn't seem like people walking in to eat had to wait very long. The lobster quiche and popovers with blueberry and lemon curd were out of this world! Highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner!

Stayed for two nights and it was lovely! Enjoyed the ocean view with comfy chairs, easy access to tasty meals at the restaurant and continental breakfast. Even the shower had a view of the harbor! The staff was incredibly friendly and kind, greeting every guest. Would certainly stay here again!

Very nice, had reservation, showed up early and they seated us right away. The service from Amanda was fantastic and the food delectable. Try the lobster popover- indescribable! Nice view from the deck, part was covered and heaters were running to stave off the evening chill.
