At the last minute I thought to get balloons for my nephews birthday and I just so happen to arrive, a minute before closing. As they were locking up, Chris was so kind to let me still grab the balloon I needed. I really appreciated them allowing me this small kind gesture, which I know is going to make my nephew so happy. I also appreciate that they were understanding, It’s very heartwarming to know businesses and people still care about others.

I will have to return at an earlier time, and I plan to bring my nephew so he can explore the many wonderfully filled aisles.

Love this place for anything you need for a party. The store is very large and you can buy everything from balloons, decorations, toys, gift bag items, wrapping paper, cards, books, anything you need to color or paint, literally everything. Prices are decent, check out was quick!

Secret Toy Store lol.. love this place. You can find toys , cards, costumes etc.. if you need in the clutch. The big name stores sold out, this place may very well might have it. Love this place.. Get some One Piece Cards, please!! Lol

About 100 times better selection than the Target nearby for all kids gifts, crafts, activities. Really a gem of a store for this auntie!

Super friendly and helpful owners, shops like these are to be cherished especially in today’s digital age. I work at Sephora and needed face gems for a certain look and they had them! Really wasn’t expecting that! First floor is mostly toys, lower deck is mostly stationery and craft making supplies. Literal lifesaver! Prices are great, such a treasure mine of a business.

Like an old fashioned variety store; has everything, including a pretty large amount of legos.

They have everything you could want for a party or holiday. And Gladys who works at the front counter is an angel — so helpful and knows the store inside and out.

Great store with wide selection and good folks working there. It is a great place to pick up decorations, costumes, toys for any holiday. They always cycle in inventory for whatever is coming up. They have a really great toy selection. It's probably as wide a selection, if not wider, than the Target that recently opened on 86th. Plus you can't beat the character of a local store.

As I walked along East 86th Street, I spotted [ MODERN STATE ] through and under claustrophobic scaffolding and down a half-flight of stairs. I'm glad I went through and down because this is a GEM of a store! Mainly a Toy & Party Store, it has extensive areas of Stationery, Art Supplies, and a good selection of Candy. I will return so I can more thoroughly peruse its many offerings.

They used to have an awesome selection of hot wheels but like always one guy brought everything like a scalper that he looked like he was and taking the fun out of car hunting for what we look for,so until then i hope they restock soon🙏🏻💯🇺🇲

This is a hidden gem. Amazing shop for kid's activities. They even have bilingual first words books and there are great discounts. Excited to return!

I had no idea that this store existed until someone from a nearby shop suggested it. Modern State is definitely the place to go for anything party-related you can think of (whether you need it or not!). Great selection and the people there are helpful too.

Cramped store full of so much choice and options. From stationary to party supplies to all kinds of toys. And balloons! A great place in the neighborhood for a variety of items.

This is a wonderful toy store as soon as you walk in you feel like you are back to the 70’s and 80’s the place is a hidden gem.

I bought things for an International Brunch. Great store. Helpful and really nice staff! I wish I had an event to plan every day!
