River Hotel of Southport

We've gone to Southport almost every year for close to a decade. This was our first time staying at the River Hotel but it is already our new favorite. The location is great; right at the "action spot" of the Cape Fear, you can see large ships, the ferry that goes to Bald Head Island every hour, and a number of small watercraft.
The rooms are fairly new and fresh, with a nice bed, excellent amenities and one of the best hotel showers I've ever used.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming and you get daily housekeeping! No one does that anymore.
We can't wait to come back to Southport and stay at the River Hotel.

Beautiful area ,clean and comfortable room. Enough room for a couple comfortably in a king room. The balcony is skinny not a lot of room to move around .
Lots of windows to let in lots of natural light the windows open too. Our room was a king at the East waterside corner so sunrise was amazing. Great view of ships leaving the port onto open waters. Go outside and to the small sandy area to watch the incoming ships turn from open water into the channel to head into port.
Worth the stay would definitely do it again when back in the area.

I LOVED my stay at the River Hotel of Southport. Everything exceeded my expectations. The rooms are as nice as the pictures and super super clean! It felt more like my own little apartment rather than a hotel room, honestly. Also, the beds were so, so comfortable. Wonderful location, close to everything but kind of tucked away and private at the same time. The live music was a blast. Plenty of parking. Housekeeping even added our own pillows to the makeup of the bed when they cleaned! That made us chuckle :) I loved our little balcony. Everyone was super friendly and went above and beyond to help me with an issue I had when I made the reservation. Definitely will be back again and I've been recommending it to everyone!

What can I say about this hidden gem? The rooms are beautiful, the property is nice (parking lot could use some touch up), the staff is simply amazing! They are so friendly and remember repeat guests (we have stayed here several times). Best place to stay in Southport!!

We stayed here for one night on Christmas day. It is such a nice place. The room was perfect. Clean, up to date, and conveniently located near downtown Southport.

I'm looking forward to staying here again for a longer trip in the future. Highly recommend.

After a busy work trip, this was the perfect place to spend the night and decompress. Such a comfortable room and a fantastic location. Wonderfully kind staff too. This is one of my favorite hotel I’ve stayed at!

This hotel is really nice and our room had a fantastic view! Loved being able to walk on the beach of the river right from my hotel. The beds were very comfortable. Staff was friendly. Will definitely be coming back! I am already a repeat customer!

This is a gem on the water. If you want a place to go relax, large rooms, clean rooms, amazing staff. You don’t need to go any further. The views are amazing, you can view both lighthouses from the beach. You have great views from your balcony. Certain nights there is live music on the patio. Make sure you pick up some wine and sit i the patio and relax. I personally will be a frequent flyer here. Thanks for a great stay. I look forward to more in the future.

We were there for our 38th wedding anniversary and they added a special touch!

We love this place. There is a pool and beachfront on the Cape Fear River. The balconies of the rooms have a view of the river. The rooms are nicely furnished. The staff are very friendly. It is located just outside of the busiest section of Southport and convenient to notable things to see and do.

It's my first night here and I couldn't have picked a better place to stay! First of all I'm a germ freak and when I say this room is spotless... it's completely immaculate! description said it had a microwave and fridge (with ice maker), but I didn't expect it to be full-size! Has a stove top even a dishwasher. Keurig with coffee cream,etc, and there's a couple dishes silverware and pots and pans if you'd like to cook.
it's basically like staying in a condo but with all the hotel amenities, office is open until 8 PM should you need anything. The staff is so unbelievably kind! I called from the other not so great hotel I was at and Laurie booked me right away, and was able to get me in a couple hours early which I really appreciate it because I hurt my back. Virginia was very helpful with check in and extending my stay as soon as I got to my room I immediately went back down and told them instead of 1 night I would like to stay the week- Yes, it is that amazing here! Cute porch to sit out and enjoy coffee.
I was able to get a few things from the grocery store delivered thru instacart, and also DoorDash seems like the best option for online food ordering if your spending a night in.
Also I am extremely sensitive to mold, chemicals, perfumes, etc and this room is A++.
Beds are soft pillow top, so comfortable.
I travel alone so safety is my number one concern and this is excellent! i'll update my review when I leave if there's anything else I learn about.
The only thing that bothers me is the fact that some people had the audacity to give this anything less than five stars!

We LOVED our stay here. We reserved a panoramic king studio and it was perfect. Great views of the water- even from the bathroom. Comfortable bed and pillows, and the room was so clean! Would stay here again in a heartbeat. We walked from the hotel to a restaurant for dinner (was about a 20 min walk) and would have done the same for coffee in the morning had it not been raining. I don’t want to leave!

Everything about my stay at the Southport River Hotel was fantastic. Great service, clean room, and convenient to all that Southport has to offer. Goes toe-to-toe with any of the big hotel chains. Will be staying here exclusively when traveling to Southport in the future.

Wonderful hidden gem in Southport! I hesitated to even write a review because I don't want word to spread 🤣 We were only there one night, but look forward to returning. The rooms are so clean and comfortable, the bathroom was HUGE, and the balconies were perfect for that morning coffee. My kids loved the private beach access to shell hunt. The full size fridge and stocked kitchen weren't used by us this time, but we'll definitely take advantage of it in the future! There have a food truck and live music every Thursday in season.

You cannot find a better location to stay in Southport! All of the staff are friendly, the rooms are nicely decorated, clean and very comfortable!

The best anniversary weekend getaway. The staff members were incredibly sweet and made our stay welcoming. Rooms are very clean, brand new feeling and the bed was one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. I hope to come back again next year for our anniversary trip and make it an annual tradition.

Staff was incredibly helpful, we had a trailer with us and they made it work even though they were doing construction.
The room was super clean, spacious, and smelled nice. It had a fridge and microwave.
My absolute most favorite thing was the beds! Omg they were so comfortable! Felt like I was laying on a cloud!
There is also a nice outdoor pool and great views of the river. Close to downtown Southport.
Definitely recommend this hotel! We fell in love with it!

If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful, & relaxing vacation in a quaint little town while enjoying a nicely updated waterfront hotel, this is THE place. The staff is super-friendly. The room was immaculate. I would definitely stay here of I come to Southport again (& I likely will)
