Whistle Stop Grill and Bar

While vacationing in Safety Harbor, I decided to stop here for two reasons. One it always seemed busy driving by. Always a good sign that the food is good. Two I read online that they had good crab cakes.

So I decided to stop for a late lunch one day. Unfortunately, they no longer serve crab cakes but many other good choices. I dined alone so I was somewhat taken aback that it took quite a while before someone came to seat me. There was no one ahead of me.

But once I was seated my waiter was very attentive. It is kind of an outdoor restaurant but they have plastic walls up with plastic windows. It was a bit cooler and a bit windy that day.

I decided to order appetizers as my lunch. I had Seared Sea Scallops with Avocado Tomato Salsa which were delicious one the best I have ever had. I also tried the WSG Fried Green Tomatoes (Family Style). This was very good but I think it would have been better to share it with others as intended by being an appetizer. The waiter brought over some balsamic vinegar to drizzle on to which added an extra touch to it.

It is definitely worth a visit.

Cool place with a lot of outdoor seating. Service was great and the food was delicious. I had the burger (of course) and I have no complaints.

Updating this review. I received a response from the manager. I understand there are oops in the restaurant business and the response from them was genuine.

Most of my reviews are 4 and above. I was taught if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all. But I think the owner really needs to know this information. We were a table of six. The waitress told half the table the specials. 4 of us got our food much earlier than the other 2 and even though we started eating as soon as we got it, everything was cold. Frizzle onions should be called frizzle crumbs because that’s what I got. One of the group had salmon and they forgot the rice. My margarita was mostly ice and a ton of mix. My husbands old fashioned was 4 sips. And the appetizer came with the dinner. The black and blue burger had potential but the bun was boring and one of us had onions and the other had tomatoes which neither of us ordered on our burger. The burgers needed a sauce. It was a seasoned dry piece of meat on a boring bun.

This is our second stop here at the Whistle Stop. Once again the food was excellent and the atmosphere could have only been better with a Train 🚂 rollin by… but other than that it was with the stop. Plus the rain off and on made it a great time to have lunch. The Cobb salad 🥗 was fresh with bacon and avocado made for a layer of flavor that was special. The onion rings are amazing. And the bacon cheese burger is huge. We did start with the fried pickles but they were a little on the greasy side but still very yummy. I’m hoping to make it back again next year. Enjoy 😊

Visited Whistle Stop for the first time and brunch on Mother's Day. We loved the outdoor dining area, and the food was absolutely incredible. I highly recommend the Cobb salad! The servers and bar staff were great and recreated my boyfriends favorite mixed drink for him. The special Mothers Day menu and live flowers on the tables were a special touch.

It has been a while, but all our favorites are still great; wings, fried pickles, and two bowls. Neal our server was very attentive. It was a delightfully breezy evening on "our" deck. We will be back!

I’ve been coming here for years and am amazed how EVERY single time my food has been fresh, high quality, and delicious. It doesn’t matter what I order from appetizers to desserts and all the in between, it’s all been bursting with flavor and top notch ingredients. My only complaint is I wish they had more locations so I didn’t have to drive so far but it’s definitely worth it for the quality of the food and service.

This place is really good to eat and relax on the outside patio. I had the Mediterranean salad with chicken and it was very flavorful and you could tell it was fresh. Definitely wish the service was better, it seemed like we were waiting 40 minutes to get our food.

This was a great experience. Service was excellent. Staff was very helpful with food and drink suggestions. I have a food allergy and the kitchen staff was very accommodating and concerned. Welcoming and relaxing atmosphere! Highly recommend! Ask for Tammy and Mike and Chris were great!

We've been here a few times. Each time the food has been amazing as well as the service. Came and for dinner on a Tuesday. It was happy hour all day so the prices were fantastic. I got the fish tacos with a side of rice and beans. Huge portion of food and it tasted great. There's plenty of seating for small or large parties. Highly recommend and the the prices are great as well.

Will definitely go back! I've heard the fried green tomatoes are good but I didn't try yet. Will try their grouper sandwich next visit!

We really enjoyed whistle stop grill and bar. The service was fast and friendly. We are al fresco on the side patio. Usually I prefer not eat outside at 3pm as it's quite hot here, but that had lots of shade and fans so it was very comfortable. We had calamari, fries and ice cream. Everything was delicious, we'd go again.

The servers worked as hard and efficiently as possible! The 2 Chefs are beyond PRAISE!! Imaginative outside the Burgers and fries. I went for some distinctive descriptions on the menu and was comleteky surprised!🌷🌷

This place is located on the left side of the road just after the train tracks, hence the name I guess. We have long driven right past it on our way to eat in Safety Harbor, and we have been missing out! Great food with awesome atmosphere and service. We will be coming back for sure!!

I have been here a few times and they always do a good job. Good beer selection and TVs in the bar, not a bad place to watch a game. Everything I have eaten has been solid. A Safety Harbor staple.

You wouldn't think twice about stopping in here, but that would be the biggest mistake you can make when visiting safety harbor for a night out. After experiencing the "hustle and bustle" of this quant little city. This is the perfect place to stop for a couple of drinks and some kicking appetizers! The staff will really make you feel at home as soon as you arrive!

Love the fried green tomatoes. We rode our e bikes so parking was not a problem. Safety Harbour is so beautiful. The speed limit on the main road is like 15 or 10 miles/hrs so no worry about getting hit by cars while riding.

Always enjoy this restaurant. Many fresh options. Love all the outdoor seating and the history behind the restaurant. Burgers are a good option. Tried the blackened chicken pasta special. Chicken was perfect, but the noodles could have used more cheese. French fries are yummy. Great place to hang with friends.
