Black Dog Books

This is my favorite local bookstore! Even though the place is small, it's got a really great selection. She's got some popular new books and she's always got used books for good prices (some as low as 50 cents or $2-$3). The place is very inviting. When I find a few books that I need to decide between, I find a seat on one of the super comfy chairs and read a bit. My kids love this place too. I'll keep going back.

Lovely shop! Wanted to do a mini outing with my kids and this was brilliant. Calm atmosphere, thoughtfully curated children’s section, and all the Harry Potter vibes ☺

Warm and inviting, this wonderful book store has a lovingly curated collection. There's something for all ages and tastes but still manages to feel like it was put together just for me. The owner is lovely, knowledgeable and great to talk to about the latest offerings.

Here you will find an excellently curated collection in an intuitively organized space that is technically cellar but feels garret. Chairs greet you in the corners to allow you a moment to sit with a book as you decide whether it is yours to take home. Stop at the brook that runs beside the shop to take pleasure in your newfound friends before carrying on. PS. They give you back $15 for every $100 you spend. Visit soon.

Great selection of books both new and used! It is very easy to settle in and lose track of time while browsing and reading. The shop owner was one of the sweetest people we have ever met!

Woman who runs this place is very sweet! Books are priced fairly too and in the back where the used books are is very cozy and welcoming if you want to sit back there and read before/after you purchase something.

Can I move into this place? BDB is set into a quaint, historic storefront in quiet Newton. Attached at the rear of the store to an equally awesome cafe one can certainly pass the time here sipping coffee and reading their well cultivated selection. I am now no longer ordering books on Amazon or going to B&N, but rather reading reviews online...then ordering my books through Black Dog Books. They also have great reading and specialty programs all the time so check out their facebook page. I highly recommend! (p.s., their history/non-fiction section is amazing)

It’s a small book store in the middle of Spring street that has an old town feel. The owner is very friendly and easy to talk to. I’ve walked out with books twice. Unlike the big book stores, this store feels cared for.
