New Story Community Books

This is the cutest bookstore that has just about everything from books (of course), to tote bags, mugs, pins, and other cute gifts for everyone. On top of that, I have been in pretty frequently and every single person that works here is incredibly friendly and helpful. They are always there to give suggestions, answer questions, or just greet you in with a smile. I cannot recommend this bookstore enough!!!

I truly cannot express how much I love this bookstore. The staff are kind and informative, the atmosphere is comfortable and not overstimulating and the books are very fairly priced. They frequently have special/signed editions of books in too, which is always a plus!

I love finding local bookshops while traveling and this one didn’t disappoint. The establishment seems to be a beacon of inclusion in this quaint town & has a delightfully diverse selection of books of all genres. They even had a bell hooks book I’ve been looking to pickup. Person working was very kind & helpful. Everyone spend your dollars here!

Book hop brought us here from Kalamazoo and it was worth the drive!! Lots of cool stuff, neat books you won’t find elsewhere, and the associate working was super friendly :) will be back soon for a bigger haul!

A good solid local bookstore. They keep a good inventory of what's current and desired from readers. Prices are comparable between Barnes and Noble to Amazon. They also have some used books that are in good to excellent condition and are very affordably priced.

They also have many other cool products such as prints, pins, stickers, bags and etc.

I love this bookstore. Not only do they have a wonderful selection, but they can also special order and the books will arrive typically in a couple of days. I also have met some wonderful authors at book signings. They have some terrific book themed gifts as well including book lights, book themed socks and fun enameled pins. The staff is friendly and very helpful with terrific book recommendations. Worth the trip every time!

Wonderful progressive bookstore with attractive displays. The staff was excited about my pick and offered suggestions. We stopped here on a road trip and it was well worth it.

This bookstore is the BEST bookstore in a Michigan! They have a top notch selection, the best enamel pins, and the owners always give terrific suggestions. A stop in Marshall is not complete without coming here to this hidden gem!

I like to visit an independent bookstore in every community I visit and this one was great! I love bookstores that are community focused and socially conscious. They have new and used books which is always nice, very enticing suggestions and a nice layout. Everywhere I looked I saw something I wanted, so be careful! Staff was also very friendly while also being unobtrusive which I feel is ideal for a bookstore. One of the employees gave us excellent restaurant recommendations, as a bonus. It's a cool little shop!

Cute little shop, friendly staff, and great selection! There are tons of used books in like-new shape as well, all at fantastic prices! Thrilled that I came across this place and even more thrilled with all of my purchases. They even have biodegradable bags. A bookstore that takes care of the environment…win win!

This bookstore is a great downtown bookstore with wonderful displays for browsing. The owners are careful about safety, requiring all customers and employees to wear masks properly. I've bought several books here, and when they didn't have a book, I was able to order seamlessly through their website. Not to mention, you can pick up a pizza next right next door, or a bottle of wine across the street. Mitten Word fits nicely into the downtown Marshall vibe. And the owners are responsive, friendly and willing to do what they can to help their customers. Thank you so much!

The most splendid bookstore!! They have a wonderful selection with some absolute steals. Very affordable and I am very appreciative of their teacher discount so I can add some YA to my classroom. I love the way they have the store organized as well as their selection of unique gifts and local artists’ work. I have only been once and I bought a ton of books but I already can’t wait to go back.

Every time I go into town this is one of my stops. I love books so I usually come away with a couple. Great selection of new and used books and a cute kids section in the back. Staff are super helpful and you can bring in your own books to trade for a discount on future purchases! I am also thankful for the stores policy of mask wearing and using hand sanitizer at this time. It’s nice to be able to shop whilst feeling safe. Thank you!

Very cozy, colorful, and friendly atmosphere. Albeit small, it presents a wonderful array of classics, nonfiction, and everything in between (both new & used) for those looking to stop in and find something interesting and affordable. The owner has an impressive history in managing and running bookstores, and it definitely shows in their selection of literature while also being cognizant of the times we live in at the moment. You have to wear a mask upon entry, but in September of 2020 that should already be a given for any frequented indoor business venture.

All in all would recommend. Every community needs a good bookstore, and The Mitten Word Bookshop definitely fits the bill.
