The Vault Cafe on the Square

We have now visited twice. Both visits we were greeted warmly and seated without a long wait. The server was fast, and attentive. The coffee was perfect each time. Breakfast is delicious, for all of our plates. I purchased the bank roll. Well priced meals. Very pleased, would recommend and will return time and time again.

Told the waitress I was a biscuits and gravy connoisseur. LOL. She laughed and said she hope they didn't disappoint. They DIDN'T!!!! Some of the best I have eaten. Eggs are great. Any food I have tried is the best. Great staff. A perfect diner and a go to place in Marion. Can't wait to take family and friends

Was absolutely delicious! The service was very good. We liked it so much while we were staying the week in Marion, we ate here 3 times in a week. Would have gone everyday. THIS A RARE FIND KIND OF PLACE!!!

This locally owner diner is a superb experience. The staff is friendly and the service is very good. The food is simple, but so delicious and reasonably priced. The building used to be a bank which makes the atmosphere fun and historical -- you can even sit inside the old vault! One of the best breakfast places in town, and a great choice for a weekday lunch!

Unique setting inside an old bank. We did not get seated in the actual vault though. We stopped in on a Sunday. We waited about 20 minutes to get a table. Walk around & check out the murals while you wait.
The food is really good. Well seasoned & served fresh. I really enjoyed their biscuits. I would recommend them & we will be back.

Rob .. the proprietor, greeted us at the door with a warm welcome (and a short wait.) He shared the story of his historic building and the pride he has in the Marion town square. I suggest and encourage a visit.
NOW for the food. Amazing and well portioned. The coffee was just right. Not fancy but perfect for the start of a good morning breakfast.
The stuffed strawberry french toast was that star of the show. My wife shared her order with me. The French toast was very sweet...but again in the right way.
The tomato bisque was appropriately cheesy and near perfect with the bread croutons. (I ordered it for the accompanying cheese toast which was a wonderful blend of toasty crunchy, buttery, and melty cheese center!)
Our waitress was kind and thoughtful.

My wife and I decided to try here for lunch one day. We were VERY impressed. The service was extremely friendly. The food was absolutely incredible. My wife had a salad (promise you'll need a "to go" box. If you're looking for a great lunch that's not fast food. This is one of the best local places to go.

Dropped in on a Saturday morning around 8:45am. 30min wait and it was well worth it! We both had the strawberry stuffed french toast and sausage links and patties. The patties were better than the links but both were delicious. The service was perfect and the guy checking you in at the door I'm assuming is the owner is awesome and very friendly! If you are in the area this is a must stop in!

Amazing find. Beautiful little restaurant with all the ambiance in the world. Even got to sit in the vault! Super friendly and fast service, delicious food, and an overall memorable experience.

Such a unique experience, eating breakfast in an old bank. The history of the building just jumps out at you as soon as you enter.. The staff was awesome and very friendly.. The food was very yummy.. Will definitely go back if in the area.

My wife Kerri and I stopped in The Vault Cafe on the Square Saturday for brunch. What can I say about this fabulous establishment that has probably not already been said. In my opinion, it is one of the best Brunch Restaurants in all of Southern Illinois. The food is of great quality, and the wait staff is exceptional, they know the menu inside and out and can answer any question about any dish on the menu. Rob is a fine human being, so friendly, genuine, and inviting and it is not a show, you can really tell that he is passionate about his baby and he never meets a stranger. Everyone who pays patronage to The Vault Cafe on the Square is a friend to Rob. Their kitchen staff is well accomplished and knows exactly what they are doing their experience and passion for food show in the quality of the finished product, down to the plating of the food. It is not just thrown on a plate, it comes out looking appetizing. The food is always cooked to perfection nor anything less than excellent service. If there is anyone out there who has not tried The Vault Cafe on the Square, you are truly missing out on a Southern Illinois Gem. I will gladly give this wonderful establishment ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. On a closing note, look at the picture I attached of their last five health inspections 100% for all 5. I would eat off that floor. I had The Club Sandwich with a Side Salad and Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing and what else is there to say that I have not already said, perfection.

I’m still seated and had to tell all. We stopped at Starbucks and asked around. This spot was recommended and didn’t let us down. My party had French toast and the Rueben. Both were excellent. I would detour to come again if I was anywhere in the area.

The host was friendly and provided excellent service. the waitress was friendly, helpful, and professional. The restaurant was clean and pleasant. The overall mood was amazing and the food tasted phenomenal!
I made a point to tell the host that we were there fiance's birthday and he made a point to wish her a happy day.

Love this place and today I had the strawberry creamcheese filled French toast and it was delicious. I got the strawberries on the side because I like to dip mine but they were good either way and dipped in regular syrup. I definitely suggest to try that special when they have it going on.

This is definitely a hidden gem we would have never found had it not been for the Facebook group southern illinois eats. When we first walked in the door man was funny and personable really made you feel like home. Our server was also fantastic and when we asked for recommendations she gave us what was popular instead of just saying everything is good 😂 like most. Everything you see pictured was fantastic. This may have been our first trip here but it won’t be our last!!! Do yourself a favor and make your family happy by patronizing this hidden gem in marion you won’t be disappointed. FYI we got there at 1 and they serve breakfast and lunch allday so no matter what time of day it is you can still get what you want.

Omg! Their food and service was phenomenal! The atmosphere was great. 10 out of 10 would definitely recommend and come back.

Great Diner set in an former bank! Food was terrific (got the special Rise & Shine Burger with fried potatoes). Definitely recommend and worth the extra drive off of I-57!

Very cool historic bank building with the vault still intact. You can even eat inside the vault if you are lucky enough. All employees were happy and pleasant and you can tell they actually like working there. It's not a huge space, so you may have to wait a few minutes for a seat, but they do a great job of getting tables clean and getting new customers seated. Great breakfast. We will definitely come back the next time we are in the area.

Travel frequently between Peoria, IL and Murray, KY. Tired of fast food and Googled area restaurants and came across this gem of a restaurant. Friendly and attentive staff, and good variety on the menu. Homemade potato salad was delicious. This will definitely become our “go to” place to eat when we’re traveling.

An amazing venue with a very unique aesthetic. The food was excellent and the service was very very good! We will definitely be back.
