If you've not yet visited this gem of a bookstore, please do yourself a favor and go check them out. From the moment I walked in I was greeted kindly and welcomed in. There's books all over but is definitely very accessible and has wide spaces. They have lovely booksellers that take the time to learn about what you like to read and will help you find your next read. They also have a cool used section towards the back that is super awesome. I'm on my third book from them and will be going back for more very soon!

Amazing book store, a must visit for mystery lovers when in Houston. Lots of books come with great notes and recommendations from staff! Would spend so much money here if I lived nearby.

Mystery magic. As cozy and diverse of thrillers as you can imagine, Sherlock and Poirot would be proud. A culture clash of whodunnits and murder novels from all over, with great memorabilia too. Robert Crais on the last image, one of the best to do it in today's market. Another trip worth the drive (40 minutes) but it's so good.

Really cool store, a lot of interesting mysteries with a little bit of other genres where applicable. Friendly staff, and nice atmosphere.

Great little independent bookstore. They focus on crime, mystery, and espionage titles with author appearances and signings a pretty regular thing judging by the event calendar and author pictures everywhere. Books are organized by region of the world where the story takes place (UK, US, and elsewhere) rather than by title or author. The staff were very friendly, and I found the spot overall to be quite charming with a wonderful layout and decor.

I'm more of a nonfiction reader, but still ended up buying a children's book about a mystery at the Houston Astros' stadium, Minute Maid Park (As a good Houstonian and Astros fan should). I do like to support independent bookstores, and this one definitely warrants it with the quality of its selections and operations. When I'm in the market for a crime novel, this will be my first stop.

Was very excited to visit this stunning bookstore with all my favorite authors and their tales of mystery!! loved being surrounded by all the fun references to the genre that lined the top shelves and the tags near the books with a quick nugget of info about the book was exceptionally helpful.

This was my first stop on the Houston Book Crawl 2024. I absolutely ordered this shop from the second I pulled into the parking lot. This is a must visit!

Stopped by to browse because intrigued by the name of the store. There was an appealing selection of titles. There happened to be the end of a performance of live music for the holidays when walked in so that was a nice surprise and it's neat they have special events. Parking could be hard but was able to find a spot in front of the store.

Strange to leave a review for a bookstore as someone who doesn't read much, but I visiting Murder By The Book to see a live theater performance recently and loved the vibes. If you like bookstores, you'll almost certainly live MBTB.

Great little independent mystery bookstore. The owner is friendly and knows her subject. There is an extremely wide variety of mysteries. My brother and son were with me. They like contemporary mysteries and found a wide selection. I tend to like older noir novels and was found a large selection for that. My wife like's cozy mysteries, especially cozy English mysteries, and there was plenty of that. It's a very enjoyable place. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in mysteries.

From the outside I was confronted with a common appearing storefront and questionable parking. An unremarkably bland and white dive with simple black text to announce, with the slightest of drama, what the place is.

Cunningly, however, this tucked away drab and easily overlooked outside - to the everyday passing crawl of traffic - is nothing more than the title page.

I turned the door, entered, and was rewarded with a visually arresting explosion of story. Attention grabbing book covers lay* (*Cambridge) stacked upon islands of tables, or stood upright on bookshelves, peeking around intentionally tawdry ceramic and plastic skulls.

Each book seemed arranged to forthrightly announce its title and author as if it alone was the most important one in the store.

Outside, Murder By The Book is as timid as a frightened bird. Inside the predator flaunts its feathers and beguiles you to know of its lurid exploits.

Of course this review is all hot air hyperbole, unless you are a fan of Mysteries, Suspense, Thrillers, and Crime novels.

If you are, Murder By The Book is that place, just up the street, where you can find nearly anything you want ... for a price.

I just LOVE this shop. The staff are so knowledgeable and I have found new authors through their suggestions. Highly recommend Iona Whishaw! The shop is full of great reads and also hosts authors’ evenings. It is definitely my happy place!

Always a place I try to come to at least twice a year. I'm an avid reader, but $20 for a paperback really hurts my wallet. However, this is a small business I want to help keep around, so I do my best to budget for it. Come by even if just to browse.

Heard about this from the Texas Monthly article it was definitely worth checking out. If mysteries are your cup of tea then this is the store for you. I got a mystery for my toddlers, which I hadn't ever considered, very fun.
