Serenity and beauty at this campground! Hosts were helpful and kind-came by a couple times a day to pick up our trash. Took the canoe out on the river right from our campsite and enjoyed the ducks and geese that floated by. Beautiful waterfall and even a black bear sighting right across the river. Glad he stayed on his side. Totally off-grid but could drive a couple miles to connect when needed. Would definitely return here for a peaceful escape.

Lovely clean quiet campground, sites are right on the water. Donnie and Sandra are excellent hosts. The Appalachian Trail is only a couple of miles away, as is Watauga Lake. Only downside is the water is too cold for swimming, even in summer.

Maybe the best campground I've ever stayed at. The hosts were all so friendly that I felt like I was a regular at the campground even though it was my first time. Plus, the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen at a campground. And you cant beat having a fire right up against the river, just incredible all around.

Wonderful campground, and the staff is the best! My husband caught a 21” Lake Trout, which of course thrilled him. If beautiful scenery is what you’re looking for, this is perfect!!

I have never camped in a campground that didn't have sewer/septic so that took a little getting used to, but the serenity and peacefulness was breathtaking.

What a beautiful campground! Small, clean, quiet and with the best views ever! The water is clear and the steep rock cliffs give a magestic view any way you look. Shhhh don't tell others!

At the end of a winding road, two dozen sites, almost all of them waterfront, with quiet nights and beautiful days, with easy paddling and fishing. And the nicest camp hosts, who do everything they can to ensure your stay is wonderful.

Watauga Dam campground is indeed a very beautiful and relaxing campground. We just spent a week there in site #1 and have no complaints. The camp hosts are wonderful and the facility is top notch. Wildlife galore! We saw eagles, herons, mallards, geese, otters and other water fowl. We are booked for August again. We are looking forward to our next stay.

Update: 9/1/2022
We just spent another week at Watauga Dam. It was again another very wonderful stay. The staff are great.

Update: 4/10/2024
Another stay at Watauga and of corse it was Grand. Except for the rain but spring in the mountains is that way. Camp Hosts are great as usual. Nothing but good to say.

WOW! Very clean and excellently maintained. Clear beautiful water,
you can kayak or fish right from your site! There is very little or no privacy between sites, but the waterfront location and manicured grassy space by each site makes up for it. We loved watching birds and ducks, kayaking to a grassy beach nearby, hiking up the paved mountain street. Follow the street all the way up with a picnic for the most peaceful overlook. The hosts were friendly, kind, and helpful. The atmosphere was so peaceful. Zero cell signal. LOVED THIS PLACE!

One of the most amazing campsites I have ever been to. Right on the river and facing a mountain of beauty, the campground is small and quiet. Very out of the way and just breathtaking.

This is a small but wonderful campground. Getting a site can be difficult due to its limited spots and fantastic location. Cell service is limited, but if you are trying to relax that isn't such a bad thing. Amenities are sufficient and always well maintained. Host are always fantastic. ADA sites are available but not directly on the water. We have booked here every year since 2019 when we first discovered it.
