You should be so lucky as to find Dr. Herrington and LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) before you make some of the same mistakes I did as well as a few I, thankfully, did not make. Yes, before you let another Periodontist pull teeth that don’t need pulling, perform cut & flap gum surgery you don’t need, all causing you to go through a painful recovery period which may require medication you don’t want to take, call Dr. J Eric Herrington. If you're within 250 or 300 miles of Meridian, MS, he should be the first Periodontist you call. (Tip: you’ll save money even if you fly in.)

Here are some things I learned after I noticed a sore and loose tooth in late February, 2022. I’d just moved back to MS and didn’t have a Dentist here, and wouldn’t you know? The Dentist I saw in Hattiesburg was not very helpful. She told me I would need to see a Periodontist but she did not prescribe an antibiotic --didn't even offer one, and I didn't ask because I didn't know to ask for one to kill and contain the infection while I waited on periodontal treatment. She referred me to a Periodontist, also in Hattiesburg, whose office wouldn't even quote the cost of the Evaluation visit. Everyone else I called all over the State --from Jackson to the Coast to Mobile-- quoted me this standard fee. Without good Dental Insurance, I figured he was out of my price range, so I kept looking.

I’d seen the Dentist on March 3 and pretty immediately set an appointment with the first Periodontist in Meridian for April 3. He postponed until May 3, and I didn’t receive his Treatment Plan and Cost until June 5, so I basically wasted 3 months. And, this Periodontist who told me “LANAP doesn’t work, it will fail and you will be back” wanted to pull 9 teeth, perform gum surgery, and give me partial plates for a cost of around $10,000+. By now I figured I needed an antibiotic but he refused to give me one. I was pretty angry when I found out later from Dr. Herrington that, yes, dentists and periodontists can and do recommend antibiotics to keep the infection under control while you’re waiting for your Evaluation and Treatment.

What a waste of time and concern on my part. I did not get any help or advice on how to keep things from getting worse while I waited for treatment. I was ignorant of anything having to do with periodontitis, I was ignorant of the painless laser surgery for gum disease, and I didn’t yet know about Dr. Herrington and his Staff. By the time I got the first Periodontist’s Treatment Plan/Cost in June my Colorado Family was visiting. When they left I began looking again. I ran across Dr. H online in July and set the Evaluation for August 31. My first treatment was October 19 and my second treatment was a week later. By the end of the year Dr. H said "this progress has been amazing." I had no teeth pulled, no cut & flap surgery, NO PAIN, no medication other than 1 Advil after each of the two LANAP procedures, I am regenerating bone, and the total cost --even with follow-up cleanings-- has cost only less than about one-third of the first Periodontist’s fee.

His Staff deserve their own mention. I’ve never seen such alert, efficient, and friendly Ladies. I'm sure you've walked into some medical or dental office somewhere where no one was in charge, no one seemed interested in taking care of business, all seemed low-energy, lethargic. That is not the case with this Team. I’ve had 1 pm appointments. The door is open at 1 and they are ready. “Their lightbulbs are on.” They are bright, motivated, energetic, and happy to help.

If you need a Periodontist don't waste your time, money, worry, and maybe even your teeth by going to someone who doesn’t even want to know about 21st Century treatments. Call Dr. Herrington's office and make an appointment for an Evaluation. He’ll determine whether LANAP will work for you, and he’ll have the Treatment Plan and Cost ready before you leave. You will love him and his Staff, and you may very well save your teeth.

I was referred them, because of an emergency dental issue. They took me back right away and even referred me to a dentist that could see me immediately. Together they worked to resolve my issue quickly. I would recommend them to any of my family and friends.

I recently had a wisdom tooth removed by Dr. Herrington, and was very nervous about the procedure. He was understanding as was his staff and made it a very comfortable experience. Quick, and very little pain involved. I would highly recommend him for any dental work that you may need!
