Holiday Inn Express & Suites Athens, an IHG Hotel

We were here to ride motorcycles around the Athens area (specifically the Windy 9). First off, this is an excellent location to do the rides. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by friendly hotel staff. The rooms are spacious and full of all the amenities. We took a first floor room, and it was quiet at night even though the highway is right there. The hot tub and pool were a great feature, especially at the end of our riding for the day. The free breakfast was a must for us, we filled up on eggs, sausage, pancakes etc.... And the staff working the area were always there, smiling while working and keeping it all fully stocked. Billy & Donna are the two people we saw during our trip every morning, be sure to say hi to Billy! He's a breath of fresh air 😊. They have some outside tables which we took advantage of when we ordered a pizza & it was nice enough to sit outside.
The one little problem we had was rectified immediately with the manager Julie. I know we will recommend this hotel to anyone we know.
Also, the location is right next to a dog park, a large outdoor swimming pool with water slides & a paved walking / bicycle path as well as tennis courts. A very family friendly hotel & for motorcyclists. We never felt like our motorcycles were "not ok" being out overnight during our stay.
We will be back one day!

I loved that the hotel is on the bike trail. I also crave rooms with balconies, looks like they have 2. Our king room with balcony has an adjoining room, good fit for a family or small group that can also hang out on the balcony with a view of a solar farm and tennis courts. Bed was super comfortable, breakfast was awesome.

After being on the road allllll day we sunk into these beds and were seriously contemplating staying another night just because of how comfortable and clean everything was! The little guy was dead to the world after a hot shower! Beds were SOOOOO comfortable! We did notice the corner next to the pull out couch in the first part of the room smelled like urine when we were packing up the next day... So that ruined it! Great breakfast and beautiful rooms (besides the aroma of urine.) Close to the freeway and gas stations!

Don't let her get away. Never met her before. I have traveled the country for my trucking business... Ashley should be regional manager. She helped make this the perfect stay. Also... if a place is NOT clean I blame the manager. This manager is doing a great job. Every person we spoke with is perfect for the job. Wish I could give higher compliments.

Really friendly front desk. Room was simple, but clean. Pool and hot tub were nice and clean. Front desk gave us an extra blanket when we asked. Included breakfast.

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Room was quiet and clean. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good both mornings. If you like Pokemon Go there are a lot of poke stops in the area and two that are accessible from the front of the hotel.

Nice, newer room, more space than usual places. Huge king-size bed. Comfortable enough; great pillows & nice lounge chair. Nice sized TV, but channel set-up & remote are a pain trying to just go to the channels you want instead of punching through EVERYTHING! There SHOULD be a BETTER WAY!
Nice little area for making coffee, using microwave & refrigerator. Bathroom has pump bottles for soaps, lotion, shampoo & conditioner, so not messy. If you don't like Dove, bring your own. There's also a small bottle of mouthwash. Staff are helpful & friendly. Breakfast area is big enough & there's extra seating for eating or visiting w/friends. My first visit. Overall, I'd recommend giving it a try.

I do suggest placing a washcloth in the tub if you have the least concern about slipping!

The staff were very polite and helpful, especially since my arrival was after midnight. They had my checking paperwork ready to go so it took only a minute or two to get on my way to my room.

I was amazed when I walked in the room and saw just how big the area is. I was not expecting a second separate room with a door. The room was very clean and stocked with all the things that I needed to enjoy my stay.

Breakfast was excellent with quite a variety of things to choose. Eggs, sausage, pancakes, oatmeal, toast, bagels, cereal, just to name a few. The eating area was clean and well maintained.

The location is perfect for being close to the college for events along with being right next to several stores, like Kroger, to get anything that you may have forgotten in your travels. There are also convenient stores in the same lot!

I would definitely recommend this location to other travelers!

My wife & i are involved in Geo Cache which has us traveling to different locations, this one was at this Holiday Inn, we was only passing thru AthensOH not staying over night so really cant not say how the rooms are, but, if there any thing like the Front Desk Couple which were very nice and friendly, i would say that more in likely the rooms are just as great.
For this Geo Cache you had to go to front desk and ask for a certain Rm# (which did not exist) the # was for letting front desk know we was Geo Cacheing and front desk retrieved the container to let us drop a Geo Travel Bug and retrieve a different one from it which the new one was from Australia.
The lobby was very clean and spacious and grounds look great and was very close to US Rt 33 going to Columbus Ohio or to Megis Cty Ohio
We defiantly know where to come to get a overnight room if staying over in Athens.

The location of this hotel is very convenient if you are visiting Athens, Ohio. It is only a few minutes away from Ohio University and it's within walking distance of several restaurants.

The stand out of this hotel was the complimentary breakfast. The service was excellent, the breakfast area was clean and the food was one of the best continental breakfasts I have had at any chain hotel.

Great location with a lot of places to eat close by. Staff was very welcoming. Very nice hotel. Our room was clean and looked really nice. Shoutout to Amanda (S?) She done a great job getting the room guest ready. 👏 Everything was neat and clean, always enjoy a nice bug bathroom! The pool and hot tub was great! And breakfast never disappoint. Will definitely be where I stay when in Athens area.

Clean comfortable rooms. Hot tub and pool great temperature. Friendly helpful staff. Had an enjoyable stay and will use this property in the future. Best place to stay in the Marietta/Parkersburg area for the IHG chain. Good local environment and cuisine compared to the other locations and about equidistant to the main hub for polymers if you work in that field. Probably the only place I'll be staying for the foreseeable future Ohio trips.

This Hotel is fantastic. Let me start by giving Keeley at the front desk a glowing review personally. She was kind and attentive. She was professional and helped us with everything we needed. She even let my kids get some apple juice after the breakfast area was closed just to help make them happy. More hotels could use people like her.

As for the hotel itself, it looked like it was just remodeled. The room we stayed in had vaulted ceilings and had an incredibly up-to-date look, unlike a lot of hotels. The beds were beyond comfortable. My kids liked it so much they wanted to cancel our vacation and just stay in the hotel there the entire week. Also, the continental breakfast, which I normally roll my eyes at, was delicious. They had fresh baked cinnamon rolls, 2 different types of omelette, as well as everything else a normal continental breakfast would have.

Even though we were just passing through, we’ll make an effort to stay here anytime we’re heading south on vacation.

We stayed with our two young children. Excellent! Very clean, great lighting, helpful staff. Pool was nice and warm and the hot tub was amazing. Great breakfast. There is a CVS and Applebee’s next door and a great park with a rock garden, skate park, and playground. We were very happy with our experience.

I love it! Everything about it here is very comfortable. The beds were not too soft not too hard just perfect. The showers are amazing and the bathrooms were clean which was nice. The whole room is very clean. In the middle of the night when I was craving chocolate I went downstairs to the main desk the was a mini store and a hot chocolate stand which was very good and the front desk clerk Joseph was very kind and helpful! He made me feel at home. So thank you Joseph! I have no complaints. Also very happy with the Keurig in the room

The room was clean although the fridge needed a little attention . The manager on duty when I checked in was clearly swamped but he handled every guest professionally from what I could see and hear. The location is not walking distance to OU's campus but it is a quick 6 minute drive. I also appreciated the locked amenities in the bathroom; handsoap, shower gel, lotion, etc.

Great place to stay while passing through. Room were clean. Bed was comfortable. Great night sleep. Everyone was extremely friendly. Free breakfast was great - scramble eggs, crispy bacon, oatmeal, etc. Would def recommend staying here.

Great hotel, room was clean and we'll put together with ample storage room and good flow. Every request was quickly addressed. Breakfast was better than average, but my only complaint is that I witnessed the breakfast lady be rude to two separate guests on two different occasions the morning I was leaving. I didn't say anything but I should have... Other than that, everything was good!

I decided on this place at the last minute on my honeymoon and couldn't have been any happier. First off, the location is great and was close to everything in the area. The hotel is modern and very well maintained which is true for the rooms as well. I'm in property maintenance so I tend to notice more than the average person so that says a lot. This is the first hotel I've stayed at since Covid and it's obvious extra precautions are in place. This was also a big relief for us. Staff was friendly and helpful and beds were up to par with the very best. We will be back to see some of the state parks that we missed and will definitely be staying at Holiday Inn again.
