Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital

I called to see if I could get my cat seen a day earlier than his scheduled appointment because he was not eating, barely drinking and started limping! To my surprise they called and told me they had a cancellation! I was so grateful 🥰 Dejah and Dr Strickland took great care of my cat and put my mind at ease! I was very pleased and grateful!

Our cat patches was seen by Dr.Otto. we were satisfied with the care and detailed explanations about our our pets health. We had been in previously with another cat and we were very satisfied. We will be back. The tortoiseshell cat was seen by the same doctor and he took very good care of pickles.

Dr. Otto has been absolutely amazing. I just started bringing my dogs here last week. He’s so thorough and his love for animals (and their owners) really shines through his care and communication. Shout out to Jackie! One of our vet takes. She was so friendly and helpful. I’ve definitely found my home vet here. Thanks so much for what you all do.

For this visit it was an exam of a cyst and paw pad as my dog stepped on something the night before.

I feel very comfortable with Dr Otto as a vet. He is knowledgeable and has years of experience. . He takes the time to explain what is going on.

He answers all my questions patiently. He is very good with my dog. My dog comes back from the exam room relaxed and comfortable. I have no problems recommending him to a friend.

The technician Jackie was good with my dog and also took the time to answer and questions I had.

I’ve been bringing my 18 (!!) year old min pin to Dr. Otto for a few years now and we absolutely love him. He’s so kind, patient and caring. I appreciate that he always helps me understand our treatment options and why, and from there we decide our next steps together. I am forever grateful for his knowledge and instincts - my girl is outliving expectations and it has everything to do with Dr. Otto.

The technicians and staff at the clinic are also wonderful - so warm and kind. They always greet us by name and express genuine concern for my pup. Each office visit impresses me with how knowledgeable the technicians are and how seamlessly they work alongside Dr. Otto. It really is an efficient operation they run together.

Can’t say enough good things about the people at this clinic - we’d be lost without them! 10/10!!

Shorewood Vetco…..
Even thou it’s not my personal local Vetco and its about an hour away, when you feel and know you have a vet that truly cares about your animals and the quality of care they deserve and give, you’ll go anywhere. And that’s what I did….

Dr. Strickland and her staff are Amazing!! My wife & I were introduced to her at our local Norridge location last year, where she took care of our Spicy “Queen Of The Jungle” Cat “Buttons”. Buttons has been going thru some pretty bad “down there” things ever since she had to have an emergency hysterectomy last year. Dr. Strickland was quick to create a sincere analysis and research strategy to help develop a determination of what was really going on with Buttons. We knew it would take some time to get to the bottom of things with all the testing and results that were about come up. However, we felt liberated knowing we were in the right hands of this Amazing Woman and Her Staff!!

Unfortunately tho….and some of you may have also experienced this and can agree with me that the Vetco side of Petco has fallen on some strange times???🤔

Yes, some local stores have been bringing in a 3rd party vet vaccination service to the Vetco side, only on the weekends, just to administer vaccinations and nothing more, due to,…wait for it…. Petco’s own claim to this reasoning, “The lack of enough Vets and Vet Techs, not only in their Nationwide company but in the Veterinary industry itself as a whole.” That’s bold. You also may have noticed along with that 3rd party “Vaccinations Only” service, you won’t get a discount for your “Vital Care Membership” or even see your neighborhood friendly “Vetco Staff” behind their desks either??? Come to find out some of them get tossed to other stores who are also spread thin when this happens. When what happens? When “Petco/Vetco” HIRES AN OUTSIDE SOURCE TO DO WHAT THEY ALREADY DO. I’m so confused????

Anyway,

For the record, I….like many of you are….am a Petco/Vetco Premium Paid Monthly Member of their “Vital Care” rewards program. It’s a Great Program if you don’t carry pet insurance and I am definitely recommending becoming a member if you aren’t already. The free vet visits, monthly reward dollars and discount grooming services and perks alone, (only to name a few) are worth the investment. I currently have “Buttons” and her 3 sister animals (2 more cats and a dog) on it as well. I believe it’s $17.99 a month per pet if you sign up more than 1 pet at a time, and it’s $20 something a month if it’s just one pet. Please don’t quote me on that. I could be wrong with inflation and surcharges being crammed down our throats this election year. Don’t take my word, go find out yourself.

With that said…

Again, unfortunately tho….and some of you may have also experienced this and can agree with me that for some unorganized careless reason, Vetco doesn’t communicate to you or inform you directly (email, phone call, smoke signal) of when your “Family Vet” is leaving or transferring to another store. You’ll have to find out those things on your own when you go and revisit your favorite local “Where The Pets Go!!” place. Thank god I asked the right questions….like….”When’s the next available Monday or Tuesday that we can get in to see Dr. Strickland so we can move forward with Buttons’s progress?” “Oh I’m sorry she no longer works here.” The f•ck. Come to find out she transferred to the Shorewood location about a month ago. “Thanks Petco!”

Regardless, that’s my animals vet. I go where she goes. An hour, two, whatever. She knows my animals and I’m not gonna start over with someone they don’t know just because it’s more convenient for me to travel a shorter distance and take my chances with another vet than it is to drive the extra distance to get the quality care that Dr. Strickland gives!! Shame on you Petco/Vetco!! You’re better than that!! I thought we were friends?? 🤪

As for Dr. Strickland….My family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you have and are doing for our loved ones!! 10 out of 10, would recommend!!

Dr. Otto and his assistant were warm, kind, patient, and caring. They answered all my questions and I felt a million times better after my visit—I know my Sunny Girl did, too!

I’ve also seen Dr. Otto for my Nolan and my Kozmo— in all cases, he made everything better. His kindness and openness, along with his personal experience as a cat owner himself, saved my nerves. I could not be happier with Dr. Otto. He is an absolutely amazing vet that truly understands our animals and our love for them!

I can not praise this clinic enough. Every single person is absolutely wonderful, I see Dr. Otto for my 3 cats and he's the most friendly and knowledgeable Vet I've ever met and treats my boys with love and care. I've had Barb in the room with me every time and she's amazing at making you feel comfortable. She's able to answer any questions I might have and it's truly something else to see someone always have a smile on their face, it's not something I see every day but she does! I have such peace of mind knowing that I've found THE clinic and don't have to worry about taking my boys to the vet and it being a negative experience. 11/10 could not recommend this place more

My pet had a benign cyst that finally ruptured. The Vetco hospital in shorewood was the only hospital with multiple appointments available that best suited my schedule. My pet dog was well taken care of and the staff was very patient with him as he is a timid dog. I am happy with my experience with Dr. Otto and his team. Thank you!

Dr. Otto, Dejah, Barb, and Jackie are all very wonderful and kind people! I feel very comforted knowing I can trust my pets in their care! I appreciate their hard work and hope to continue seeing them in my future appointments :3c <3

Brought my dog in for some concerns, everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable and took great care of us. The tech Makenzie was wonderful and very clear about everything we discussed, and Dr Otto was very personable and helped set me at ease, I felt my dog was in good hands!

My dog was able to get in for a next day appointment and they were open on a holiday which was a great! The total time of us being there was relatively quick. The vet and her staff were very nice, informative, and positive about my dogs situation. He was feeling better by the next day after being seen.

Dr.Strickland and Dejah took amazing care of my Ozzie when he was sick! Loved all the staff. The environment is very welcoming and professional.

I really enjoyed my experience here. Much better than my other vet. Dr.Otto is absolutely amazing. I respect him very much. He's very compassionate and treats his animal clients as if they were his own. He actually takes the time to sit there and explain everything to you. I came here for a second opinion, and he put me at ease. I will be coming here from now on for my baby garfield. Thank you so much!!!! I wish I could remember the nurse who helped me as well. She was so patient, took her time with her notes, and validated my cat mother craziness. She was so gentle with him. I'm just so grateful I went here. I'm a huge fan of CBD products for my personal pain. I was interested in something for my cat for CH and anxiety. Dr. Otto recommended " Hippie Hounds." I went home and bought it right away. It seems to be helping my baby, even on a half a dose. Thank you everyone.

Bailey had a wonderful experience and always enjoys visiting. Dr. Strickland and Barb are very professional, caring and attentive to Bailey’s care. If I could give this Vetco more than 5 stars I would. Thank you for everything you do.

I’ve been a member of the Petco vital care program for about two years, and did not realize the benefits with Vetco care. I was completely blown away by how helpful and friendly the staff is and knowledgeable! I have a Shiba Inu an they tend to have allergy issues often. I was very relieved that the doctor took time to address my concerns and provide the best solution for my dog! My dog was very content with the staff while being checked out and happy! Thank you!!!

Jackie, Barb and Dr. Strickland are the best!! Love going on and seeing them because they take such good care of my kitties!! Cheeto approves!

Has the convience of being inside the PETCO Store itself.
My dogs love going inside PETCO anyway.
Our German Shepherd had a great experience here.
