I come to Atwood park to do Mountain biking from time to time. I recently discovered they had a Birds of Prey exhibit. It's very cool to see the types of birds they had on display up close. I read up on the exhibit and I guess these are birds that have been rescued and can't be returned to the wild. I will be back with my kids to show them these birds up close.

Excellent place to visit with the kids! Went during Saturday feeding for the Birds of Prey and it was awesome. Learned so much about the birds and the sad stories that brought them to Atwood Center. They obviously are well cared for birds and glad that places like this exist to care for them and their unique disabilities. Employees here were wonderful! Definitely will be back when it's not so slushy to check out the trails.

As an outdoor facility to see nature up close, along the Kishwaukee River, this is very accessible and fun. Went here on my child's school trip as a chaperone. I got to see a fun age appropriate team building exercise the kids loved it! A great resource for learning about animals and nature. Here are some pics, enjoy.

Really fun trails to walk. They have old training courses you can play on. The suspension bridge is fun to walk across.
Birds of prey exhibit is very interesting.
Btw all the birds were unable to survive in the wild on their own.

Beautiful area for the birds who wouldn't survive in the wild. Education is now their job! ❤❤❤

We've visited Atwood a lot for walking in the warmer months, but we'd learned that snow shoeing was something suggested through the 815 Outside bingo challenge, and that Atwood center offered rentals. Made a reservation and headed out. Check in was easy and we were pointed toward some of the more scenic trails to try. It was a bit of a workout and we enjoyed it quite a lot!

A hidden gem in Rockford! What a cool place! I've only been here once so far, but I definitely plan to return. The birds of prey exhibit is fascinating, so cool to be able to be up close with those large predators. The beautiful wooded area has tons of paths, including mountain biking, snowshoeing, and hiking trails. The historic area is eerily interesting, and I really appreciate the way they highlight the prominent figures of that past. The facility and grounds are very well kept and apparently offer camp experiences to kids. I can't wait to take advantage of such a cool place as the weather gets nicer!

Visited 1 PM Saturday for the feeding of the Birds of Prey.

Stood less than 3ft away from a bald eagle, then got to watch it shred a bunny to bits. May not be the best outing for the faint of heart - but circle of life, yo!

The park has much more to offer with a few hiking trails, and definitely non level ground peppered in. Downhill runs are a breeze, getting back uphill can be a beginners challenge.

The birds of prey feeding on Saturday was perfect! The guy was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! Our family were the only people there. It was like our own personal show/class. Trails were fun too. We entertained our three young children for about 2 hours there! For free!

In 1967, my sixth grade class spent a glorious week at Atwood. I was so inspired by the teachers there. I became an environmental engineer and solved problems around the world over a 40 year career. I was named to my university’s distinguished alumni academy last year. Everything I achieved can be traced back to Mr. Horn and others at Atwood. Thank you Atwood.

We went to the birds of prey exhibit. The bald eagle squawked at us. All of the birds were feisty while we were there. A great place, I recommend it with your children too.

One of the best parks for mountain biking and hiking in the Stateline area. The trails are well manicured and the Kishwaukee divides the park as a great canoe and kayak launch point.

It was awesome. The bald eagle screeched at us. The red-tailed hawk was sitting at the front of the enclosure got a good look. Walked on some trails. Nice.

I had a field trip here when I was a student in the 90s. I still think about that trip! Good memories! Happy to see this place is still making memories.

Beautiful trails you'd think you were in a park far away from a city. Birds were interesting to look at.
