Blackhawk Springs Forest Preserve

It has very nice paved walking so you can also ride bikes.

Love this place. Clean bathrooms, plenty of parking, and lots of shade. The trails are well kept and dog friendly. Pretty flat so you can get some distance if you want.

A wonderful place to walk with our grandson and dog. Nice blacktop bicycle trail and several dirt paths too. Beautiful scenery and amazing natural observations available!

This is a fun little Park. The kids enjoy running the trails and it's a great place to get in a three-mile loop on the trails. There is a natural spring just off of the paved trail and it is a great place to go and explorer. Also this part that connects with several of the other adjacent parks by trails

A nice place for a bit of nature and some spring water.

Beautiful area connecting to the kishwakee river trail and another path that goes into the prarie area. The entrance to the trail has a plaground, outhouse, a picinic area, and poop bags available for dog walkers. The trail is marked with a center line that is dashed when you can pass safely and solid yellow when on an incline. The trail has many spots with benches. The river trail has many fishing spots.

Very nice paved path for walking, jogging or bike riding. It has a large open area for picnics and a game of catch, it also has a playground for the younger ones.
Bathrooms are clean but no water although they do offer hand sanitizer outside the door.

This is a beautiful little gem of a park. Access (via foot trail) to the river. Hiking, Biking and Fishing. Picnic tables and gazebo. Non-flushing bathrooms (but nice, not just a port-o-pott)

We stopped there for the first time today on our way home. A great area, even in Winter. Can't wait to go back there in Spring, Summer and Fall!

Blackhawk Springs Forest Preserve is my favorite park in Rockford because I was born and raised near this park. During the quiet hours (dusk & dawn) there are deer nearby and it always has a quiet and clean walking pathway. If you do "The Loop" where you walk the entire trail and turn around, you c as n hike for 4.5 miles. For more off-the-trail hikers, there are plenty of marked unpaved trails. Also, the Springs are wonderful if you search and find them! I love this park so much I moved to be closer to it. This is "my" park ♡♡.

The path follows the river and is very scenic. It's a great place to bird too!

If you like nature, you will like this preserve! Nice for walking or biking. I take my dog for a walk there , but last time there were two dogs without a leash and luckily it was by the parking lot. I ran into my car! Other than that, lots of shade to walk

Nice play area for kids, clean restrooms (outhouse style, nice pavilion, trails clean - did not take a pet or see anyone else with a pet.

Great mix of prairie, wooded and paved paths. Lots of picnic areas and a good playground for the kids.

Nice trails, both paved and otherwise, right on the Kishwaukee River, not crowded. The river is good for fishing, kayaking, and tubing.

This is my family's weekend spot. We get together 3 generations for a walk any day it is nice out. The scenery is beautiful and it has everything you want in nature; scenic views, river for fishing or kayaking, off trail hiking, paved walk path, wildflower fields,bird watching, an awesome playground for the littles and a very large shelter with electricity for parties. We have hosted baby showers, death memorials and birthday parties all in this one place. Highly recommend.

Great place to stop on a road trip to get out of the car for a walk and a break.
