This campground is awesome. Tent only 3 nice sites. Two are near the water and the other is set back in the woods. Very family friendly and plenty to do for the kids. Fire pits and wood on sites are clean. Picnic bench at each site. Good add to the Glen Alpine are. I would highly recommend this site.

My wife and our friends stayed here over memorial day. It is by far the best time we've had in a long time!! The camping spots were great! We stayed on the river front and listening to the River at night will put you right to sleep. We also caught a few fish. The owners are top notch and you can really tell they care about keeping their Campers happy. We will be going back around the 4th of July and can't wait.

My wife and family love this place. You're out in the woods, each camp site has privacy. Camp sites are far apart and have running water at each spot. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, they go above and beyond to make sure you have a great time. Also no cell service down at camp spots!!! Just you, the woods, and a river to swim/fish and kayak in.

Spent the weekend here with my sister and friends for a bachelorette party. I was slightly concerned, but it was so much better than I expected. Granted, there's no showers or plumbing, but overall I would highly recommend this place for a quiet, safe and memorable camping experience. We were not bothered at all by the owners until we asked for something and the riverview camp spot is great.

If you enjoy camping, GO TO THIS PLACE!

Camping here was a great experience! We spent most of our time at our site and were very comfortable. There was room for multiple 2-4 tents and plenty of trees for hammock camping (which I did). The family members who own the property were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. For being a walk-in camping experience, we were pleasantly surprised to learn they help shuttle your gear in/out from the parking area in their truck bed - such a convenience! The walk in isn't long though and is well cleared along a graveled path. The current 3 sites are within distant ear shot but out of sight of each other, providing top-notch privacy when compared to public park camping. Having a water line, tables, plentiful stacked firewood, and a raised tent pad area at our River Sounds site was wonderful. We've typically camped at Lake James Catawba River access, but found this location when they were booked up. I'm so glad we did!

I highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area and want a relaxed and convenient camping experience with greater privacy and fewer restrictions than public lands have (alcohol, etc). We'll definitely be back!

This was our second weekend here. This place is amazing! There was even great foraging. We saw plenty of Chicken of the Woods growing naturally by our site. I would recommend Attocoa to any camper looking for a REAL camping experience. You won’t regret it.

One of the absolute best camping experiences my family and I have had in years! The owners were so kind and accommodating. It had a breathtaking view of the river and my husband throughly enjoyed fishing. Our kids and Labradoodle absolutely loved it as well. Will definitely be back!

My wife and I did a 3 day, 2 night stay at the River Front site. It was a perfect set up, and the water was easily accessible for taking a dip! Falling asleep to the sound of a river blended with the Cicada choir was the perfect ending to the day.
Trey is very familiar with the land and has an honest appreciation for the way it should be preserved. Not only that, he is obviously not in this to give you a "campground" feel. He has set this up to give you a true camping experience. We will be back soon!

This is the best camp ground I have ever been too, coming from a former scout and Marine. The tent sites are spread out enough and in their own pockets in the forest that I couldn't even see the other campers or even the light from their campfires. 4 wheel drive is recommended, and the gravel road leading to the site can be sort of steep as well as bumpy, but my van was able to make it. They also offered to escort to campsite. Just something to think about depending if you have a newer car, car issues, a vehicle close by depending on how much gear you bring, or a vehicle close by ruining the immersion in nature, etc.

My site had a picnic table, a well secured fireplace (concrete wall blocks), a spicket for potable water, a firelog stack ($10 per 1/4 of the stack, that 1/4 lasted us the night) and a tikitorch by the tent area which is leveled and made up of small gravel rocks. The river was extreamly close even for the "river sounds" location. I will say, if the river is a big reason you're going I recommend one of "River front" spots, as there are otherwise limited ways to access and it's a little tight.

This is an amazing blend of amenities and pure wilderness, giving you the bare necessaties and nothing more. And unlike other campgrounds its not filled with paved roads, RVs, and technology seemingly everywhere.

The staff is beyond amazing. You typically book for 2 nights, but being a single dad, I wasn't sure how well the kids would fair, and upon calling they allowed me to book a single night. When I arrived, which was after typical check in, they helped me start a fire while I unloaded and set up the tent. The next morning, my car battery died, and they jumped it off with the tractor. But the problem was actually the altenator, to which they sacrificed a 3 or 4 hours of the day to help charge my batter at their house nearby and escorted me to a local shop to ensure the kids and I weren't stranded once we left. I cant express how thankful my family and I for their help. Their picture should be beside Southern Hospitality or Customer service online.

If you're looking for a true camping experience with a fair amount of privacy and whose staff is the definition of southern hospitality, look no further, you won't regret it!

Camp Attocoa and its hosts have done an incredible job preserving all the joy of remote camping with easy access to a plethora of North Carolina’s most beautiful areas. If you’re looking for a campsite free of RVs, generators, and light pollution, you’ve clicked on the right page.
What they do have: Attocoa’s campsites are intentionally spread out and private. Our site had a nice fire ring, picnic table, and plenty of flat ground for tents or trees for hammocks. The hosts have firewood and potable water, just ask for it, they will kindly hook you up. The water front and stars are gorgeous, and the hosts have done a great job making this campsite an ideal place to stay.
As long as you plan to book ahead and tent camp at this “tent only” site, you can ignore the 1 star reviews. If you’re a tent camper, looking to get away in NC without having to backpack, this is the place!

I cannot say enough about this wonderful campsite! Our experience started out being greeted by Calvin and Trey. They gave us a rundown of the property, told us where things were located, and some stuff we could look for. They loaded up our stuff and trailered it down to our campsite. Myself, my wife and our two kids (4 & 6) stayed at the River Front site, and it was beautiful! There was firewood already next to the fire ring, fresh (great tasting) water immediately available at the site via water line, and a view that made each morning a delight to wake up to. Listening to the river run really set the tone. With the right lure (I used a white spinner jig thanks to Trey’s sage advice!), you can practically pluck the trout right out of the river. There were all kinds of wildlife around to see. My wife and son got to see a couple of river otters catching fish right off the riverbank one morning. There are a lot of great hikes with amazing views that are within a short driving distance of the area. Trey checked in on us every couple of days during the week that we were there. He made sure we had everything we needed and told us the history of the property. It’s inspiring what he has done with the place and where he plans on taking it. We look forward to coming back and seeing the additions that he has in mind.

This is the place to go! Beautiful & remote grounds meets friendly & hospitable hosts - you'll wish you could stay a while longer than you planned. Trey greeted us with a tractor to help us bring our things from our car to our site down by the river and made sure we had everything we needed to set up camp. Calvin Jr. checked in on us and helped us check out when our stay came to an end. Both men shared with us some stories of the family's land and were incredibly welcoming, helpful and personable. Highly recommend this campsite! Whether you want to sit back and enjoy a relaxing day on the water or if you'd rather visit nearby hikes & towns, this is a great fit. A plus: bathroom facility is kept very clean. Can't wait to visit again!

Dropped in after a morning of canoeing the Catawba. Floated right up to the riverside site. The owner was friendly and helpful and the campsites are private and well kept. Clean water to the sites, firewood for sale, and porta potty in a central location. Can't recommend it enough.

This place was amazing. An incredibly secluded and scenic area. The river side site was a perfect place for me to drop a line in the water and catch a few catfish and trout, while the fire and views kept my fiance happy. At night, between the mist rolling in on the river, the fireflies all around, and a perfect view of the stars overhead, it truly was like a scene from a movie. Beyond that, trey and his father were exceptionally kind and helpful. Can't wait to go back!

Magical. Truly beautiful and well equipped right on the river. The wagon ride (all your camping equipment and people) in and out of the site made the short distance to the Jeep another fun moment of family fun! Thanks to the wonderful hospitality, clean site, and fully stocked firewood and camp site, we will definitely be back!

Absolutely beautiful a diamond that has yet to be found by most. Hosts are super helpful, accommodating, passionate, and have a yearning to improve the overall space and camping experience. We loved learning about the history of the land and where we camped. Restrooms are close, we had running water at our location, and an initial stack of firewood was provided. Super pet friendly, loved hiking the trails, other camp sites were no where near our site, and we enjoyed the privacy. Trillions out of a trillions stars (10 out of 5). Highly recommended. You know I'll be back!

Unless your name is J Hi
And try to get a 37 ft camper down here which specifically says in the title this is primitive tent camping only! LOL I want to tell you I have never had a better experience! Three ladies who love to camp myself, my cousin, and my very best friend. We had the most amazing weekend 4 days 3 nights at Camp Attacoa. I book this site, 2 months in advance. It was absolutely amazing! It was quiet serene, tranquil and more than anything fun! Cal checked on us every morning asked us if we needed anything gave us tips and tricks of the area since he has lived there his whole life. And asked if he could help us in any way! He was the most gracious and sweetest host. He did not hover or hound us! Just an amazing experience firewood at the ready, wonderful wonderful 4 days! I would recommend this campsite to anyone! Love love oh yeah please don't be a Karen and not read what the website tells you! There is no way a camper 12 ft or 40 ft is going to get down to these very primitive awesome and amazing campsites!

By far, one of the best camping experiences I have had. This is a wonderful campground with only a few sites which makes for a perfect retreat without the normal hustle and bustle of populated campgrounds. With this being a family owned spot you can tell the owners take great pride and appreciation for not only the land but for the visitors as well.

Calvin Jr and his son Trey were so hospitable. They helped us get our stuff down to the camp and got us settled. There was firewood at the site and 2 picnic tables along with another glass table to cook on. The site (river sounds)was so pretty. The porta Jon was so clean and close by. This is our new favorite place! Thank you Calvin Jr and Trey!!

Great place to camp. Well maintained and plenty of room. The sound of the river can be heard from any site. Perfect place for kids and dogs. Can have fun fishing or kayaking. Or just sit by the river watching and listening. Best camp site I have ever been to.
