Not only is this place historical, it has a great reputation for having friendly staff and great food. Highly recommend!

I sat at the bar. The bartender could not have been nicer! I did not love my drink, but that’s because it was too sweet for me. She let me mix it with some soda water and it was good.

The club sandwich was simple and good. The main event was the Mac n cheese.

Let me just say whoever decided to put a potato cake on top of Mac n cheese is a GENIUS. I’ll be dreaming about it until I have it again.

Great place for a bite. Friendly staff great food. Great location to go if you’re between appointments at the hospital. Took me about 10 minutes to walk there

To die for Mac-n-Cheese!!! That potato cake on top of those twisty, curly cheesy noodles…I can’t even tell you how amazing it tastes when it touches your tongue. Don’t go for the side dish size, go for the entree one! Ok, I did the side dish size with the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy because I didn’t know I should have ordered the entree size of those decadent noodles. Don’t make the same mistake! 😊

However, the chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy were very good. We also had their Virginian burger with added bacon and a side of fries. Great fresh burger cooked a perfect medium.

You do feel like you are going back in time while dining in the close quarters. Look at the pictures on the wall so you can image yourself there in the 20’s with a group of friends or family.

If Allison is still there serving, she does an amazing job! Say “Hi” to her for us! And tip her well! 😉

Open til 2am. Great food! We ordered Potato Soup, Southern Fried Chicken with Mashed Potato and Clubhouse with Salad. Root beer was amazing. Cocktail drinks were okay. Parking is difficult in this area.

One of our favorite places when we visit UVA. Great food, good portions, and a good price. It has a very college-like atmosphere, lots of students, a few parents. Sports on TV.

The pimento cheese sandwich was unreal. The fries are also very seasoned– delicious! Love the margaritas as well. Iconic place!

My sister and I were in town for a one-night getaway! We were ravenous after a long, enjoyable but tiring day and had been searching for over an hour for a good place for dinner when my sister, fortunately, finally grabbed the first street parking space she saw. We ended up right in front of The Virginian - lucky us! We sat across from each other in a delightful wooden booth, tasted an excellent Classic Gimlet and then devoured our perfectly cooked half-pound burgers with everything-fresh salads. All of this was enhanced by outstanding service (thank you, Terri!) and the warm, cozy atmosphere in such a historic place. We will be back!

Food is always decent, the mac and cheese is a winner every time! Wait staff is sometimes short with you but it's a small space so they're just trying to clear tables quickly. A nice nostalgic spot even the pickiest eaters would enjoy!

Looked this local place up for a stop after a hospital visit , hungry as heck , this place did not disappoint. Very quaint , but buzzing with college kids . The food was very good , the service was excellent. It's nice to find young people with manners . I had the apple bourbon glazed chicken & my wife had the crab cake sandwich. We also both had a bowl of French onion soup. Totally enjoyed it all.

The food was good. I wanted a chocolate alcoholic drink and the bar lady made me the best drink ever. The staff was friendly and I will go back. The main reason for going there is because they open late at night.

Great and historic spot for a quick meal day or night. Never had a bad meal there. It’s the corner so parking isn’t easy, so plan ahead.

Perfect little date night! My wife and I came here after numerous recommendations and I cannot be happier with my experience. The food was incredible and our Waitress, Torie, was outstanding. We spoke to the manager as well and she had such a great attitude towards us and everyone in here. I cannot wait to come back!

Was looking for a place to eat after leaving the hospital and I’m so glad we found this restaurant! It’s located on a popular street on UVA campus with bustling sidewalks and numerous stores. It was a very pretty area to walk in!
The food at The Virginian was delicious. I was impressed by the Mac and cheese because it had pepper jack cheese sauce and a cheddar potato cake on top. I got this as an appetizer but it could easily pass as the whole meal because of the serving size (I did not expect it to be so heavy!) I also got the Coal Miner burger with fries. Which I loved the seasoning on the fries and the burger was massive! The beer I got was the Three Notch’d Apple Crumb Amber Ale which was not too sweet. Perfect for me. All in all it was a great experience and I can’t wait to go back!

Our friends took us on a tour of UVA and recommended we stop here for lunch. Everything about it was so good! The service, the food, and the drinks. Portions were pretty good for the amount you pay for it, we didn’t even finish all our food!

Sweet potatoes fries were really good and I loved the chipotle chicken wrap! My husband and our friends got the pork BBQ sandwich and they said it was delicious.

At a time it is tough to find great customer service, I have to send a shout out to Ashley! She was Great on a busy Saturday afternoon. She was working the bar and even though busy preparing the beverages for all the guests, our service was great as we sat at the bar.

Our hamburger, cheesesteak and BLT were amazing. I even had to try the Irish Trashcan beverage that the UVA students highly recommend.

Thank you Ashley for a Great Experience and we will be back next time through the area.
