Rocky Gap State Park Campground

I never see so many campsites in one state park. Restroom and bathhouse are 8 out of 10. They keep it clean and nice. Hot water is also good for anytime. My favorite is the lake side trail. So beautiful and very relaxing and easily done. Between Each campsite have a panty the space.wishing that’s some Electric site near the lake.

My son and I tent camped here for 2 nights. The campsite was very well maintained. We were right next to the bath house. The bathhouse was sparkling clean. The shower area was large and provided enough space for your clean clothes to stay dry. The campground was quiet and peaceful.

Our campsite was surrounded by trees and not close to other campers. It was really peaceful and there were many activities to do while there.

Amazing place for camping!
They have an artificial lake as well for fishing. The place was beautiful and well maintained. We went there during rain and still had a great time.

Management could have been better. We were told we could arrive till 10pm, but no one was at the campground registration office and the gate was closed. Repeated calls went in vain, since we were not able to find the code easily to open the door. It turns out we were sent that as an SMS.

The camp host, located in the Ash loop, was very helpful! They guided us towards our campsite in the dark, and even lent us their lighter which we had forgotten at home

We’ve been here many times through the years. The lake is great. The beach is nice and the wooded areas are super. Unfortunately it is no longer quiet and peaceful. If you go there for peace and quiet, this is no longer the place to go. Generators have become a big problem. On one of my most recent trips there we had three generators on our loop going constantly. The generator noise was so loud we couldn’t hear each other while we were sitting around the campfire at night. I would recommend going to another place.

We have been coming to this park for over 30 years, and the last 3-4 years it has really gone down hill. We choose to pay extra for the electric sites, and the power is absolutely terrible. This is not an exaggeration… the power “trips” and has to be turned off and back on again, manually at the post, 20-30 times a day. It’s truly unbelievable.

The past 3 years this has been a known issue at this campground that they have decided not to fix. The bandaid they have chosen is if you call to have them “fix it” they will just come by and give you a voltage regulator. But unfortunately this does nothing and this year (2024) during our two week stay the power would go off every 5-10 minutes. The power post would smell of burnt rubber and the plug would feel hot to the touch. We spoke to 5 other campers with the exact same issue. Park maintenance won’t fix the issue nor refund you any of the extra money you paid for the “more expensive” electric site.

The bathrooms have two showers, only one of the showers worked, the other just barely drizzled out water (again, would not send someone to fix for the two weeks we were there). And of the two weeks we were there, the lights in the bathroom only worked 3-4 days. The rest of the time no lights. Showers were taken in the dark or with a flashlight.

The swim area at the beach (at the deepest point) is not even waist deep.

It’s honestly a joke. Again, we’ve come here for 1-2 weeks a year for over 30 years and the last 3 or so years it’s been a steady decline in the entire park overall. It’s a shame, this park has the potential to be the best in the state. Poorly run, staff doesn’t care or maybe just doesn’t have the backing from park management to fix the issues.

Not welcoming at all. Disappointed
