What an amazing course. One of my favorite Donald Ross courses I’ve ever played. Very challenging but , extremely rewarding as well. Layout is amazing. Pristine conditions, staff is super friendly. Can’t wait to go back.

Excellent experience from bag drop to cart return. A challenging course with elevation changes through every hole. Greens are big, true, consistent, and have a lot of movement. It is a good idea to choose the right tees.
The course yardages may be deceiving as to tee selection. I'm pretty sure you hit up to every green, and at least a few will send short shorts for a smooth run back your direction. There are some really interesting lines up, over, along, and down the green features - sometimes on the same putt.
A fair test of your game. I felt challenged, but it was a great and enjoyable round.
The icing on the cake was the staff and other amenities. The staff was friendly, attentive, and helpful around the course, in the pro shop, and in the restaurant.
Hagen's Restaurant is more than your regular clubhouse restaurant. It is frequented by non-golfers for lunch and dinner, but casual for those after round drinks and stories. There are also great views of the course.
The pro shop had a nice selection of Donald Ross French Lick items as well as other things you may need for your round.
Before I left, I was already making plans to bring a group back.

Great course! Beautifully maintained and flawless from start to finish. Generous fairways give way to very challenging and well guarded greens. Hole #8 was my favorite as you have many options on how to play this 90 degree dogleg left. Definitely would play this course again and the staff was amazing and made the experience very enjoyable!

Prior to teeing it up at the Ross course, I had read that it is a tough test of golf. In fact, most reviewers indicate that it's about 3 shots harder than the Dye course nearby. In addition to that, with the elevation changes, it plays about 300 yards longer than the yardage on the card. Throw in some Donald Ross greens, with buried elephants and upside down bowl tops, and you've got yourself a real test. But an interesting thing happened when I played...I actually listened to the advice in the pro shop and wound up having the best round I've played in probably 15 years.

There is deep heather and plenty of undulation to go along with the bunkering. But the fairways are wide and accommodating. You won't get in trouble in the rough unless you really spray it. But whatever the yardage says, ADD AT LEAST ONE CLUB. I did exactly that and it made all the difference. I did that on virtually every hole and didn't over club a single time. The greens are typical Ross experiences and it's a blast to play them.

You will find very gracious hosts, a splendidly designed, and beautifully manicured course. If you play well, that's a plus. But you're in for a great experience either way.

Beautiful and challenging. Do not underestimate the greens and listen to all the men/women working the grounds. Professional and courteous with talent and experience. Thank you everyone who works the grounds for doing and amazing job.

Absolutely beautiful course. The tee boxes are nicer than the fairways at my home course. Very challenging greens and plenty of sand traps. Amazing course!! They even cleaned my clubs while we were on the last green putting!

Wow - super track. Amazing conditioning and challenging layout. Not a flat lie anywhere but tee boxes, which isn't fun for everyone but I enjoy it. Greens have some really hard slopes so I'd love to play this course a few times and use them. Service was also very good.

THIS PLACE IS A MUST PLAY!!!! if you like or live golf at all.... Good ol Donald Ross layout with greens that are of course back to front but so many other undulations, tough and unique to say the least!! A lot of uphill approach shots, bunkers were absolutely perfect ( besides players not raking them in the groups before us, ROOKIES )!! The rough is very consistent and isn't long but depending on your lie, can be punishing... Fairways and greens just perfect... Sweet little pro shop and well stocked, pricing was decent also, can't wait to be back

My father and I played here in Spring 2016. This is such a great escape from the normal golf course in America. It was very hilly and the greens had great characteristics. If you played a longer hole, the fairway was always easy to play off of; if it was a shorter hole you might have an uneven lie to test your wedges and shot-making. They have carts but it is pretty walkable. One negative; they don't have a driving range.

Wonderful course. Club up every hole. The elevated greens demand it. Great conditions but a single digit handicapper can score well.

First off, you do not need to be a golfer to make Donald Ross a must visit during your stay in the French Lick area. The clubhouse offers a restaurant with beautiful views of the course. You can get a drink at the bar, take it out to the porch, sit in one of the comfortable rocking chairs, then sit, sip, relax, and take in the view!

This place is well worth the $$$$; The course was tough and challenging with the hills and elevation changes and non-flat greens; positive though, while the staff in the clubhouse was top notch with the advice about deciding the yardages for an out-of-towner. I will definitely return to play this course in the future. This course also lives up to its reputation.
