The Chautauqua was excellent this year. The City of Madison outdid themselves. The festival was packed with vendors and artists. There was a lot of good food, although there could have been a larger variety of food trucks and vendors. If you want to go to a festival that celebrates music and artist that has an amazing selection of different artworks from metal art to watercolors to everything in between, then this is the festival for you. Make sure you wear comfortable clothes and have your walking shoes because the festival is spread across multiple city blocks. You really need more than a day to see everything, so arrive early. Amazing festival, perfect for the whole family.

50th year for this art festival and it shows why it has gone on for so long. Many vendors set up and down several streets as well as residents set up outside their homes. They had a whole street that was nothing but food trucks as well. Parking was a little challenging with so many in attendance but the weather was awesome and a great place to people watch as well

I enjoy the Madison, Indiana Chautauqua Festival every year. The amount of talent and inspired creators that exhibit at this art festival are truly gifted with individual stories and works of art. Pottery, stained glass, woodwork, paintings, photography, mixed media arts, musical artist, the bonzi tree lady, jewelry, leather works (oh! The amazing smell of leather!), crochet/knit wear, candles, soaps, popcorn, glass orbs, and so many other talents .. all made by local US artists, many of whom, are fun, engaging, and so very talented.

It is my goal to replace my "store bought" dishes with pottery or glass from these local artists as well as the art that adorns my walls.

If you are seeking inspiration or perspective, a gift for yourself or others, an enjoyable event for girl friends or boy friends, this event should be on your annual calendar.

I have witnessed children and dogs attend the event. If slowly meandering around priceless, often breakable, sometimes smelly items in and out of tents is their thing, then they will enjoy. Of the dogs and kids I witnessed, they were kind and very well behaved... and some of the questions that the kids asked the artists - dynamo questions and discussions!

I do feel that artist festivals could improve their vendor/clientele relations by improving marketing efforts pre and post event.

"About everything imaginable"....A stroll around the Lanier home, down to the river, up the river front, up Jefferson Street, around the courthouse, then back down Main Street to stop at the many homemade ice cream shops, coffee shops, browse antique shops, who can imagine a better afternoon, than to take in on all sides of ca. 1812 Madison, Indiana!

And guess what? That was remembrance of last year... 2018!

Madison Chautauqua 2019 is NEXT weekend ...Saturday and Sunday,SEP.28&29,2019! Make a point to come down and browse painters, sculptors, mixed media, metal workers, rustic toy makers, and a flea market at the other end of town around the courthouse! Antiques, collectibles, rocks, minerals, fossils, OUTSTANDING!

Not over crowded, vendors weren't too over priced and the food was great. Reuben and Wisconsin cheese curds for the win.
