Nana J's Soulful Kitchen

Stopped in here today for the very first time and got two meals to go. The service was exceptional and the food was just wow. This was better than mom's cooking, and there's a lot to eat too. I'll be back whenever I'm in the neighborhood. Literally the best meal I've had in a long time!!

The food was absolutely amazing. It took me back to my childhood in Florida. The service matched the food, nothing but good vibes. I will definitely be coming back anytime I’m close by.

we stopped for the meat and 3 sides. extra hot. crispy 3 full size thighs, plus rice and flavorful brown gravy, purple hull peas smothered down, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans all with cornbread. including a dessert and tea plus mints. Superior, friendly service in a very clean restaurant. we will be back for great home style cooking. other meats (turkey wings, meatloaf, smothered pork... and veggies were available.

This was the best soul food I've had in a while! I had the smothered pork chops with field/snap peas and collard greens. It was seasoned to perfection! Oh and the LEMONADE! I could drink it by the gallon! It was SO delicious! The service was the owners daughter and she was super sweet. She made the atmosphere very hospitable and I can tell she takes the time to get to know her customers! 10/10 recommend!

The best smothered pork chops, Red beans, and fried okra I have ever had. The service was great and the history of Nana J’s is awesome! Highly recommend!!

We are so very thankful for Nana J and her team! We look forward to her meals on Thanksgiving. You can taste the love and soul she puts into everything 10/10. I’m not a fan of mac and cheese but I’ll gobble hers and go for seconds. Also, very generous portions. We always have leftovers, which tastes even better the next day.

Ate at Nana J’s today for the first time! I have nothing but good things to say and not enough space here. Food was AMAZING! Service was even better. Shakur was absolutely amazing and gave us the best story of how the restaurant came about. I love places like this and will definitely be returning! It honestly reminded me of being at my grandparents house eating a home cooked Sunday dinner! ❤

I can't rave about this place enough!! From the moment you walk in, you feel like family. Shakur, was so friendly and welcoming. She gave a fantastic story about the resteraunt and told us the history. Everything was made to order. I had the wings , greens and fried okra, I had Shakur pick my sides, the okra was the best I've ever had. I also got a pork Chop and it didn't disappoint. The banana pudding was delicious as was the homemade pecan candy.
Everything and I mean everything thing was fantastic!
Only thing that was disappointing, is the fact that I'll most likely never get back here to eat their delicious food , anytime in the near future!

My husband and I enjoyed this place so much!!!! A must if you are in the area!! Food was perfectly cooked and at the helm was a lady named 2pac who was absolutely fantastic she made the experience even better just with her fun nature!!! We will be going back frequently

Shhhh 🤫🤫🤫🤫 don't tell anyone, but...

I've been bamboozled but in a good way. The people working there deserve recognition for the magic that is going on behind that kitchen door, so here it goes.

I've been driving past this place for years and never tried the food. Honestly, it looks rough, but inside something special is happening. They don't have a huge menu, but what they have is top-notch and cooked to perfection. It's like a master of the culinary arts got lost and showed up on the side of Washington Avenue in this little innocuous building, turned on the light and started making art that you can't truly appreciate it until it touches your tongue.

I'm 6'6 with a health hunger, and I healed out with plenty of leftovers.

The fried porkchop (9/10) with gravy fell apart it was so tender. I got the classic Mac and cheese that was delicious as my side with fries. They gave us large portions as well.

The catfish was great, as well. Crispy with a very good, simple breading. Way better than Aunt Jennie's just down the road.

I can't wait to try the lasagna and fried chicken but heat up a batch of the meatloaf cuz I'm coming in hot and hungry.

Keep up the great work, and I hope to taste more of yalls greatness.

The food is spectacular. I had the ribs, Mac & cheese and collard greens. My husband had smothered pork chops with rice/gravy, fried okra and Mac & cheese. The meal includes cornbread and banana pudding for dessert. The flavors are incredible and the portion sizes are tremendous (both of us had leftovers).

It is so amazing that many people are lined up outside to receive their to-go orders in a parking lot that is filled with huge potholes. We paid $32 and left the guy that brought us the food a $5 tip. They forgot our drinks (we didn't really want them, but they are included in the meal).

In spite of having a closed dining room (COVID-19 protocols), being a little pricey for home-cookin', only being open for business 12 noon til 5 pm Wed-Sun and wading through muddy water (literally) I still MUST give this restaurant 5 stars. This is a bucket-list kinda place. Nana J's lives up to her reputation. Someone should help this woman fix up her parking lot. She is a major asset to this community!

We got the smothered porkchops, BBQ ribs, chicken wings and catfish plates. Everything was so good, tasty and fresh! The owner mentioned she doesn't add salt to anything. You won't miss it. The food is great!

Look, you WILL have to wait a while for your food. No orders over the phone just don't even try. No A/C inside. That being said, this is the best home cooking I've ever had. Smothered pork chops are litterally award winning.

Hello, the welcoming customer service is on point, so friendly and cares about the customers.I ordered the smothered pork chops, which comes with rice and my 2 sides were Mac and cheese and collards, the chops are tender yet delicious, the collards was so good I didn't even need hotsauce,the Mac and cheese was also good but a kinda spicy,.....and you also get a free dessert 😋.......definitely recommend this place and will always stop by whenever I'm in town.

The food is so good, you forget about the rest.

Initially, I was upset at the parking lot, being we have a low centered car, I had to get out and see if my wife could actually navigate through the huge mud puddles to get there.

Then the man came out, and he looked like he was really tired from working hard. This makes sense because It seems this place is the bomb. Well, he forgot our drinks. No big deal. I didn't really want a drink anyways, and we have drinks at home.

We made it home and all i can say is WOW WOW WOW!

I forgot all about the other stuff. My smothered pork chops were awesome. The Okra was the best I have ever had in my life! The mac N Cheese was tied for first on the best I have ever had as well.
The portions were very generous. Seconds are included with this meal!

Normally, i ONLY give 5 stars if they are hitting on all cylinders. Meaning everything is good, customer service, parking, friendliness, cleanliness, etc.. but the food is like 6 stars so that drags the other stuff, which is fixable up the scale a bit.
You have GOT to give this a try, and don't get frustrated by some of the minor stuff. Once you eat, you will forget all about it.

I heard the words fried pork chops, and I came a running. This was some of the best mama cooked food I have had in a while. I loved the free dessert of banana pudding. This is a must lunch stop.

I was born and raised in the south, and this is by far the best soul food I’ve ever eaten. Like…by far.

Portions are huge. I had the fried pork chops, macaroni and cheese, fried okra. My mom had the fried catfish, fried local shrimp, baked beans and potato salad. Everything we tried was fantastic and at very reasonable prices

The owner was so hospitable—we felt like we were guest in her house eating at her kitchen table. She should be very proud of her restaurant, because she has created something very special. What a gift to the community.

I just wanna thank yall so much! I’ve eaten here for years and I think it’s time for a great review! Food is always great. I caught the seafood gumbo once it was soooo good! I’ve tried pretty much everything but the turkey necks. Do not plan on doing anything after you eat from here but sleep lol

Smothered pork chops, collard greens and potato salad made from scratch and love like my beloved grandmother, served by an angel who won my heart. Drive out of your way to take advantage of this one of a kind experience!
