Great idea just for one time short trip. Although, this place is special because you can see the seals really close while they are resting on the beach. And if you hike a bit up, really close from the parking (couple of meters) you will be able to observe beautiful view of the ocean and the cliffs. You can check the photos below.
P.s. the restrooms are still wanted to be cleaner but at this stop they are probably the cleanest compare to the others in Point Reyes National Seashore. So small tip - go there! :)
Enjoy your trip🚶

A beautiful beach with a big parking lot. Hot coffee was good from the gift shop. The hike to the overlook is short but steep: well worth the view.

Awesome beach to walk, enjoy the sun, the views and even some times the seals, sea lions and sea elephants! It is frequently windy though so dress accordingly. There is a big parking lot and a visitor center nearby where you can find maps, information, restrooms and some snacks. From here you can also get on the seasonal shuttle that takes you to the lighthouse

There are excellent reasons Point Reyes peninsula was preserved -- and niw a new ine. This spring (2019), elephant seals hauled out right in front of the Drake's Beach parking lot to give birth. Magnuficent creatures!

One of the best Point Reyes beaches for kids. The long shallow beach is perfect for wading and the large bluff often acts as a wind break. If you wanna have a bonfire be sure to get a permit because I have had rangers stop by to see my permit. FYI. Also at the visitor center there is cool a small shop with coffee and goods to purchase and restrooms, and a water fountain. Defiantly a fave!

I've visited many times, but today's weather was the best: easy breeze, cool but not cold temps, smashing waves. Walk way north all the way to when the cliff ends, right in the center of this photo, and find (at least I did) a beautiful sand dollar field. Leave them all there for the next guy to discover. What a spot!

Incredible Beach! This is a beautiful and long beach perfect for walking, hiking, or jogging. In September there is a sand-sculpting contest that attracts hundreds of participants and is loads of fun. The drive out to Drakes Beach is rather long even though it is close to San Francisco, but, well worth the scenic drive.

Nice little beach, there's not a ton of foot traffic in the winter which makes it a great place for a secluded bonfire.

Stunning beach with long stretches of sand & sea. White cliffs are so beautiful. Come in March/April for wild flowers on the hills and sea lions & seals sunning on the beaches & swimming in the lagoon
Come at sunset for an unforgettable moment

Great hangout spot w/ flush toilets, big parking lot that is close to the actual beach. Also has a visitor's center/gift shop/small Cafe right on the beach--not open every day though. Beach is clean, and there's plenty of space for you to find a private spot, even when "crowded". Today lots of pelicans and other water birds, as well as seals and small dolphins. Expect this beach to be (on most days) chilly, windy and I recommend dressing in layers.

Such an amazing view of the ocean and wild life! Elk, deer, cows, elephant seals (large and small!) Just wish everyone would do their part in cleaning the beach. We left the park with 2 full bags of trash and didn't make a dent.

Beautiful spot on the coast, the cliff helps cut off some of the wind, yes it gets windy there, and the local town about 15 min away has a small market for last minute drinks or chips. The drive to the beAch is gorgeous. To get from the parking lot to a spot not covered with wood or rocks was kind of hard while lugging a cooler and some blankets but well worth the visit

This entire area is just straight up gorgeous!
The beach itself is massive with plenty of space for you to go explore left or right and set up camp and still feel, distant. The clifwalks to the west also share some amazing views.
Due to covid, the cafe and store are closed but you can still use the restrooms.

Expansive beach with cliffs creating wonderful vistas. Visitors center here with bathrooms, water fountains, and bookstore. While the parking lot was almost empty in December I'm sure it fills easily in the summer. Would be a fun spot to picnic and spend the day. Plenty of beach to find your own personal slice.

Wide open expanses of beach with sand easy to walk on, and lots of sand dollars. Saw a baby elephant seal - we kept a respectful distance.

Drake's beach is currently closed to vehicle traffic due to covid-19.however if your disabled or visiting with a disabled person for the purpose of physical exercise your allowed to walk from the main road Down to the beach however it is a good 38 min downhill walk to the beach . Other then having to walk back up it was amazing seals were down the beach sunbathing there was next to no trash or debris on the beach the area seems well maintained and thanks to covid-19 it was the first time ive been there with no other people on the beach. Way relaxing and tranquil

White crowned sparrows share this space but they clearly feel that they own it. One of many birds that call this section of the west coast home.

Just happened to drive up when the elephant seals began to show up early and ranger was very friendly and informative and let me know to keep my distance from the seals because they're faster than they look.

Lovely beach with elephant seals (be careful they're very close to the parking lot) that's also the departure point for the shuttle to the lighthouse.
