First time I stopped here since they fixed this stop up. Beautiful!

4/16/2023 - Heading northbound between exit 17 and 25a (have made this trip hundreds of times over the past couple decades). The Thruway rest area situation is a sorry, hot mess. Both Plattekill and Malden seemed to be nice refurbishments until, it appears, COVID gave the Thruway Authority cover to shut them down and then tear them down. The Thruway says Applegreen's the new operator. The Thruway isn't doing proper oversight, and Applegreen appears to be doing the bare minumum.

Now Plattekill is closed except for gas and EV recharging. We stopped at Malden to find a "c-store" open with very poorly stocked shelves and nothing hot but some sad looking roller wieners. What used to be a nice public space looked like an abandoned mall with at least one restaurant literally boarded up with plywood.
The capper was a men's room that clearly hadn't been cleaned in over 24 hours. NYC public restroom look good compared to the overall state and smell of this one.

Fail, Thruway Authority and Applegreen.
F+, and you need to be investigated.

If you want a $10 bag of chips, a $12 rotted sandwich, and a bag of chocolate covered pretzels that are white (not white chocolate, though milk chocolate, old, dryed and sunbaked) oh and a $5 can of soda, come on by. Have fun, enjoy. Really love being an overnight trucker where no food places are open besides a McDonald's every 100 miles and these places exploit that.

It’s 1:30pm and I have to wait in line to go to the bathroom!!! Food lines out the door for both Popeyes and Starbucks. Really!?! Whose bright idea was this?
