We passed this place numerous times over the years but never stopped in. Well, today we stopped in and the food was great. Our app was the veggie nachos, very good. For meals, my stuffed crabmeat haddock was awesome, I’ll be back that’s for sure. My wife had the peppercorn burger, my daughter had the steak n cheese sub, and they both agree it was really good. The drinks were a spicy pineapple habanero margarita, which certainly brought the heat, awesome in our book. If you order it spicy, so it should be….
Atmosphere is really nice, horse themed, saddles, horse pictures, wrought iron booth partition trim, really nice to be here. Light background music 80’s-90’s was great to listen to during our meal. Certainly worth a trip again anytime. Like the wife just said, it’s so goood here. We had a great meal here, hope you visit and meal is tasty snd enjoyable as well.

What a great meal. We got there before 5pm on a Saturday. We were seated immediately and our drink order was taken. We ordered fried zucchini for an appetizer. Another round of drinks. We got the pot roast, steak tips and ribs for dinner. I had brussel sprouts as my vegetable. By the time dinner was fun, we were all completely stuffed. Headed back to the house in time to enjoy the rest of the evening.

We went to Black Horse Tavern because of it's reputation for preparing gluten free meals. It was even better than the 5-stars that we had heard. Nick was extraordinarily welcoming! All of our meals were outstanding - one in our group said that the fish & chips were "the best I've ever had!" The meals-ribs and pot roast-for the two gf's in our group of 5 were carefully prepared and separately served. Service was likewise outstanding. Simply put, we've found our new favorite restaurant...and we'll be back again and again. Thanks, Nick, to you and your team for a totally wonderful experience!!

We went to the Black Horse to celebrate a birthday after the Bridgton Christmas parade on Saturday night. The food was excellent and the service (Reagan and others) was exceptional!
Each of our meals were perfect- the lightly fried oysters and onion strings were just that - lightly fried, delicious! The Blueberry salad with salmon was absolutely fantastic - blueberry vinagrette was perfect, salmon was grilled just right. The b-day girl had the Grecian chicken whihc was also cooked and seasoned exceptionally well. We were all very pleased with our meals. The pomegranate margarita was heavenly as was the pear rosemary martini!

This was the most amazing place for food and drinks. It was so good that we felt like we were eating food cooked by a famous chef. The wait staff was top notch. They were very attentive and customer oriented. The price is worth it trust me.

We ordered pan fried salmon, fried shrimp, and pan seared tuna with a pomegranate margarita and a lemonade lavender martini. For an appetizer we had black rock crab stuffed mushrooms.

Food was excellent. Fried pickles crispy and tangy, the pretzel appetizer was cooked just right.
Entrees were very good. Fried seafood platter really surprised me. The breading was so light and fluffy, the scallops so tender they almost melted in my mouth, the shrimp cooked just perfect. And the fish...... So flaky and moist. Hubby got the fish and chips. The fish was so flaky and moist, yet not soggy. Crispy and fresh.

They have a nice selection of local beers and ales. The Allagash white was excellent.
Only two negative aspects were
1. I have onion allergy and an exceptional large part of menu (including soups and sides) I was unable to eat.
2. They are almost to light with the seasoning and salt.

Overall excellent experience, would highly recommend and we will be going back!

Best food I've had in my life. Flew up for the eclipse. Had dinner and brunch and hand to God I think the lower star reviews are liars.

Really a fun tavern atmosphere that’s not so loud that you can’t hear your table mates. Fully stocked bar - can’t go wrong. Highly recommend. Fish & Chips, Shepherds Pie crepe, sesame crusted Ahi tuna steak were all excellent.

Although they have a sign upon entering stating they are understaffed, you'd never be able to tell. The wait staff was great and very attentive and the food was incredible. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was very happy with choosing to eat here. So much so that I went two days in a row.

I was a little skeptical about this place at first based on the outside. However the salmon blueberry salad was so delicious. My husband had a burger Benedict which was on special. He said it was very good. We tried the baked brie with blueberry chutney as an appetizer which was delightful. I didn't get the impression that everything is made on sight but they did wonderful with what they had. The service was also very quick and attentive

Stopped off for Dessert and Coffee/Tea yesterday on my way home from Cornish and Bay Haven, when my goal had been Black Horse for Lunch, but my adventure took me instead to Cornish 1st. Had the Creme Brule and herb tea, and decided on the spot to order myself a meal "to go" for later. They never frowned, never raised a brow, or smirked with my inquiry to do that...afterall: I'm on VACATION! I ordered the Bourbon Steak Tips medium rare with peppers, mushrooms, onions on smashed red skinned potatoes. Creme was smooth textured, mildly sweet, and very good - just right serving after a meal. Without a meal preceding it, I could easily have enjoyed 2! Tips were tasted at suppertime: just tight. Smashed last night were large in portion, delicious when cooled to warm, since I detest the taste that reheated potatoes always have. Tips will be continued today til gone. Service, attitudes and welcome were 5 stars, as was my experience. Looking forward to returning much sooner than my next vacation day. Neighboring FishChips, Reuben sandwich looked scrumptious as well & possible future choice options, as is Sunday Brunch. Tables nicely placed/spaced out. Parking, now that I have seen, is better than 1st thought and noted. Did not take photos, but will next time - do indeed speak a thousand words! Hope you read this and come by, hope you see this review BH and know you are appreciated and hope to become 1 of my faves - drive from Auburn worth it.

Had some great fried clams that were lightly battered. My companion had a good chicken Parm. Would definitely good there again next time I'm in the area.

Wow. I can see why this establishment has been so successful for so long. The food was amazing! I didn't know a Pot Roast sandwich could be so good... The seafood chowder was delicious and my wife's fried clams were delightful.

I really enjoyed this place. Our waitress was amazing and treated us like old friends. The steak tips were extremely tender, the potatoes were super flavorful and the fish was some of the best I've ever had. Light, crispy, airy, flaky, moist. I'd drive the 2 hours back just for the fish and chips.

Have gone past The Black Horse Tavern over the years, but never stopped. Today we were all hungry and I knew the Tavern was right up the road. Friendly staff, nice ambiance, great food, reasonable prices all make this the reason I'll definitely be stopping there again. The other two with me felt the same way. Highly recommended.
