Gonella's

Sometimes a good Italian sub is what I am craving and that is what brought me to Gonella’s for lunch last Saturday. The store is easy to find just off Telegraph in Redford and parking seemed to be sufficient. I got an 8 layer Italian on the hard(outside) roll as well as 6 pepper poppers and a towne club soda. My bill was just under $20. The sub was exactly what I expected and was seeking. Stacked meats, plentiful veggies with a good dressing on a nice roll. The poppers were absolutely delicious as well. Pricey, but delicious. I think they probably work out to about $1.20/each and they are a la carte so get one or ten(I would lean towards the latter and green ones - but both are fuego) I will definitely be back and may stray to try and create your own sandwich and try the soft bread next time as it may soak up the dressing better - although this would require a prompt consumption and not great to go. Anyways check out Gonella’s if you want a classic Italian sub. Also, they are not just a sub shop and offer all sorts of cold deli selections(meat/cheese/salads) and a small assortment of Italian grocery items. Great selection of craft and local sodas.

It was lunch time and the staff wouldn't stop apologizing about being behind. Everything was ok with it because we knew what we were getting. Some of the best sandwiches in the state and an awesome olive bar. The wait really wasn't that long and the food was very fresh and great tasting as usual.

The BEST subs I've ever had! I've been a fan for 22 years since I worked in SW Detroit and ordered from the main location. This is the same family and quality. Delicious hearty subs packed with fresh meats, served on hard or soft rolls (both great), and by far the best dressing/sauce.

The atmosphere is above average for a party store but still, it's a party store. They do have an olive bar that I want to try.

The sandwiches are fantastic. I can't wait for my next one. Call ahead, as opposed to ordering online, and your sandwich will be ready for you when you get there.

When it comes to subs, this is the place. Blows any chain out of the water. The staff are awesome, really friendly, and know their stuff. Best sub shop in the area, no question.

While there are two locations I'm aware of (Redford and Southwest) I always end up at the Redford location. I've been a long time if sporadic customer myself for years now and I always recommend this place for cold cuts.

Sandwiches are fairly priced and always worth the money, there's a wide variety of drinks and snacks available to purchase, and out of the dozens of people I've introduced to this place, there hasn't been a single complaint outside of not being able to save half their sandwiches for later as intended because it's too delicious.

There's also plenty of other food options I'd highly recommend, like their Shooters (red or green). The staff & owner are always very friendly and polite. They do take call in orders for faster service as well.

This place makes some of the best sandwiches and the price is very good. You pick out what type of meats and cheeses that you want. Fresh breads. You can get a 6 layer sandwich with meat and cheese for 8 dollars. Great deal

One of the best places to get a submarine sandwich in Detroit at a fair price. Each sub can be customized to your taste preference.

This is the spot for subs and other deli items. So tasty and delicious. Makes your mouth feel like it's being kissed by the flavor gods and makes you come again and again and again for more food!

Omg! 18 layers of pure heaven for only 13 bucks! For any sandwich lover, head here instead of Tubbys or any of the others. Hands down, best sandwich with tons of meat and very affordable!

Fast friendly service, my food was made fresh while I was waiting and didn't have to wait long at all.

Everytime I go, it seems to get better & better! I got a 3 meat sandwich with corned beef, ham & hard salami. I had lettuce, their famous dressing, Mayo & banana peppers on a hard roll. Amazing!

The store is clean and everyone working there has been friendly. The subs are made fresh while you wait and are built up using quality meats and cheeses. My family and I have been going to the Gonella's stores for years.

I'd love to try everybody's version of anything. When I get this opportunity to visit pops shop I hope to be amazed. I joked with David I want to say that was his name son of the supreme overlord. LOL hands down and I don't care there's a Popeye's Chicken next door and I love Popeyes, gonellas excuse me is right there start wherever we need to but I need a 10 12 14 layer and bring more back to the shop because I try to share this Joy with everyone you should not try to keep this to yourself you need to share this with people I can only imagine when a party sub would be like. I joke with many people but I'm serious if you don't like this place I will give you your money back or I will question your taste till the end of time

Been wanting to visit this place for a while and today I finally did. I was craving a turkey sandwich for breakfast and I’m so grateful they’re open at 9am. I got a small turkey sub with all the toppings and man, it was delicious! Everything was so fresh, the establishment is clean and organized, the customer service was great. They offer a few shelf items like pasta, marinara sauces, seasonings and more. I will definitely add this as a new staple to my foodie repertoire!
