Had a great experience with Windstream service. Worked well & all service people were honest, friendly and knowledgeable.

My positive review is exclusively for our technician Andrew. He came out and re-ran our broken fiber line in a way that would prevent future damage (previous tech ignored that request a few months ago). He also found that we were paying for gigabit speeds but only receiving around 200 up and down, so he took the time to solve that problem too with a new router install.

Thanks a bunch Andrew, it’s refreshing when someone from this company knows what they’re doing!

I had Windstream for 6 years, only recently dropped their service because their top end speeds at the time were 12mbps. Plus the next highest speed from other DSL providers was 6mbps max.
Not enough to handle running my business from and have my wife telecommute.
I know a few people who live out in the sticks who get 1mbps intermittently but they're lucky to get service at all for how far from the nearest NODE they are. However, I am in IT and this is the best DSL provider in the area. I've had to deal with Verizon, Frontier and EarthLink.
They typically gave me BS saying service was down in the area even though the decibel levels were there and had a hot connection just so they could get paid for closing a ticket. I've spent 4+ hours on the phone with Verizon just to get a user name because they kept hanging up on me. If I had an issue Windstream would have a service guy out typically within 24 hours, sometimes even the same day.
As far as some of these other people go with slow speeds they have to factor in many things. Distance from the nearest NODE. Old phone lines in the house and length of said lines. As for the bad customer service reviews they must be located elsewhere because I have to call in to ISP's all the time and Windstream is one of the easiest to deal with.

I actually have not had a terrible experience. My Internet is pretty good, not lightening fast, but not too slow either. The only problem I have is that once in a while the Internet goes out, and I don't know why. Sometimes it's just for minutes, sometimes it's all day. A couple times it lasted a couple days. Major pain. Usually it's good though.

TLDR; internet is fine. The company and business practices are deceitful, they tack on extra prices, and in general do not care about customers.

I’m torn on what to rate this business but to be clear, the internet they provide in the area here is pretty much fine, usually never down. However, the issues I dealt with to negotiate them back down to the initial price they listed were ridiculous, it takes multiple phone calls just to make sure they actually do what they said they would.

Recently their technician set up the neighboring apartment’s internet, disconnected ours, and it’s a four day wait just to get their technician in the door to fix it (on the phone, they cited a two day wait, only to get a text that it would be another two days).

EDIT: A technician did come one day earlier to fix our internet and set us up not to have the same problem in the future. Bumping up to three stars just bc of Sal.

Customer/tech support is difficult to deal with, as with most internet companies.
I cannot wait to get away from this internet company, but they basically have a monopoly in this area.

This is an update to my previous post. Although I stated that I called customer service several times to report internet problems, my service has since improved. I have fewer buffering incidents recently. Customer service calls can last an hour or more. After 2 visits from repair persons I now have an acceptable signal strength.

Since comcast now has a data cap and I am WFH, I decided to give Windstream a try. pls note, I just received it so for now I want to state little things. I had everything installed yesterday and Matt was great! I believe the other tech was Dave. No complaints with him either. They did a great job with installation. I went down into my basement and all the wires/cables were feed through the beams which looked so much nicer then my comcast cable hanging down. I don't see any wires now with them behind the tv console. The fiber optic is not big and bulky like my comcast cable. Less is more, unless its $$ :-) I received emails and text messages and a call when they were near and or on their way. 5 star for installation.
Once Matt hooked up the modem, everything just come up with great speed (10 megabytes ). setting up my laptop and smart devices was quicker then when I set them up with comcast. I was impressed. Since yesterday, I have had some lull moments but I have had them with comcast. its too soon to tell plus they set my speed up incorrectly.
3-star ...maybe 2-SO my real concern besides the many many negative reviews is the initial call with the sales person. I was told that I was going to get one plan which was possibly 50 megabytes but I only received 10 mb. I was also told that I could use my own modem but that is not true I can not. (so that is an additional $10 a month) I called today and now a tech needs to come back out for me to receive the 50mg. Thankfully I am not being charged. I have wanted to give Windstream a try for awhile (in hopes of saving some $$ but i'm a little bit skeptic .) I stream TV shows and if it were not for COVID, I would only need internet for evenings. I am hoping that the 50mb will work just fine. My neighbor has had Windstream dsl for yrs w/no complaints. Reviews are tough sometimes you just need to bit the bullet and find out for yourself. If you do give them a try, ask for a detailed invoice so that when your tech comes out, you are better prepared then I was. I will update this later as to whether I keep them or not.

The router needs to be reset several times a week to several times a day. Recently I have had to take an extra step to open the app and run service health for the internet before it reconnects. It is slow fairly frequently although that doesn’t tend to inconvenience me often. Customer service is incredibly rude. I wish my area had more options but until then, I’m stuck with this sub-par company

DSL is kind of expensive for it to literally not work almost everyday. Called 3 times now, and issue is still not any better. Switching to service electric.

Every call is to the Caribbeans. I have been without internet for over a week and no one can resolve. They hang up on you, place you on hold then hang up on you, they spend over 35 minutes in the phone with you to resolve nothing.

Not to mention when an appointment is made, they cancel if you don't respond via text the day of, the day before, and the day of. The tech will call you, don't miss that phone call, they will again cancel if you do.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. The tech was friendly but still no service. I'm sure I'll receive a bill and be expected to pay in full.

If only there was a way to call the stores directly in PA. Here is to phone call 20.....

Moved in with family in May, was under the impression we only had the cheapest internet we could afford for our area so I refrained from saying/doing anything about our 2mbps download speed. I found out yesterday that not only are we paying for far more download speed and have been for 5 years, we're paying FAR more than any other provider would for much better service. Trying to solve this through customer service is completely futile as they outsource it to 3rd world countries, and since reading other Google reviews, it seems that this is a very common problem. I will be switching providers ASAP. Do NOT go with Windstream, literally any other option is better, the Elon Starlink stuff is pretty bad but its better than this by a mile.

Tried to use this service for my wife's remote job and our home based small businesses and we ended up losing hundreds in sales, taking time off work, and renting office space because windstream left us without internet for 8 days before they scheduled someone to come out. They didn't even want to reimburse us or credit our account for the time we had no connection. Then after we switched providers, canceled windstream, and sent their router back, they continued to charge our card for the next 2 months. We had to put a stop payment on our credit card account. 2 thumbs down. Would NOT recommend!
