UPDATE: Akamas Restaurant has changed its name to Zorba - The Greek Taverna back on May 13, 2024. The old Akamas is no more and has been totally updated. It looks fantastic. Nothing old and dreary, here. It now has a relaxing, nautical theme, new decor and nice tables with linen napkins. They kept some of the booths, too. Most everything is brand new inside the restaurant. The food was very good and so was the service. Prices were higher, but the food was more plentiful and they are authentic Greek dishes. Also, notice for breakfast goers... no more breakfasts will be served. Lunch and dinner ONLY.
I was pleasantly surprised with the changes and will dine at Zorba's again.

Just had an omelette with mushrooms and they are fresh! Love this place!

We're in town visiting and ate at Akamas at the suggestion of our family -- as they frequent this restaurant. Noting: our family members are older and very particular eaters who usually complain about meals at other restaurants (so we knew the food must be good!). We ordered the Sunday specials: swiss steak for me and my husband ordered the fish with mac & cheese. Our family ordered a favored chicken gyro. The portions were huge and the food was absolutely perfect! Our meals came with dessert choice of ice cream, rice pudding, or jello. We opted for rice pudding and it was delicious! The coffee was perfect and the staff friendly. The restaurant is clean with a quiet atmosphere. We will definitely eat here again. The restaurant has a small bar which offers wine & liquor. We don't drink so I can't speak to the wine choices but for those who do like to have a glass of wine with dinner I thought I'd note that it is offered.

We were here on New Year’s day with our granddaughters. We had a wide variety of dishes from homemade soup, fettuccine, tuna melt with fries and a gyro dinner. All hot, cooked perfectly. This isn’t our first time here but every meal we’ve had here is like this. A great food experience.

Read the reviews and decided to try it. Was not disappointed. All the meals we had were excellent. The portions gave us enough food for a whole meal, to be taken home, except my son's but he's a teenager. We were not super impressed with the desserts; rice pudding was good, but not great, and my daughter's ice cream tasted like a cheap brand. (I eat store brands and actually like them, but not this one.)

Simple, clean, family restaurant— with great prices and service. The food ranges from average to fantastic, and it's a great value overall.

If u love small town diners then you got it here ☺... clean diner / restrooms 🚻. The staff ( waitresses) are amazing 👏 they are smiles & very friendly. I would recommend this to anyone! I would have taken my Grandmother here ( bless her) that's how much I like this place . Owner is a hard worker that takes his time to talk to his customers and ask how things are . Love it!!

Good food at a great price. This is an unpretentious family diner with a large menu and very quick and friendly service. Dinners include soup or salad as well as rice pudding or ice cream for dessert. Chicken kebabs and the lamb entrees are fantastic. Vegetables could be better but the rice and french fries make up for this. Portions are large.

Reading some of the negative reviews I would have to say they are probably total bs by some who resent the change of ownership and are racist to boot. Ignore them. My personal experience was so totally perfect I don't have words to do it justice. Shades of Paradise Lost!! It was like stepping back 35 years to the best years of recent American history, the '80s! Food quality was EXCELLENT and service prompt, attentive, and courteous. Definitely a favorite and that's saying something as I discover and rate restaurants all over America on all 48 lower states.

The food was awesome. Exceptional service, free rice pudding. Great experience all the way around.

SIMPLY THE BEST- I drive past this restaurant a lot, so I decided to stop in for dinner by myself one day and wow, I loved it! and have been back 4-5 times since to try different dishes, Great food, great selection, awesome prices! I mean, $5.99 for a giant gyro meal with fries?, free dessert with many dishes!
And the food is just so good!
Lol, I swear it, and I know this may sound like an phony review...but TRUST ME, once you go here you will understand and know WHY I posted this review. 👍 JUST THE BEST AROUND BY FAR

Also, this has got to be the nicest restaurant crew, (Talented veteran crew that worked seamlessly to make sure I had everything I needed) that I’ve witnessed in over 35 years - I’m a little OCD when it comes to restaurant service, I check for crumbs under the napkin holder and s/p shakers, menus have to be clean too.
I had family that ran a well respected restaurant in the metro Detroit area for over 40 year, it’s not easy to do it well but,

Akamas does it all THE RIGHT WAY!

The food is great! Many choices. I recommend the fish and chips and also the lamb shank. Best lamb shank EVER!! Great service also. Good people!

I can't remember ever having a bad experience here, no matter the dish its always a great meal. The portions are large and the prices are great. We just ate one of the best carry out meals we've had in a long time and enough for a midnight snack. Show this place some love during these hard times and far into the future!

Love this place. Theyve been around forever even though the name changed,, the atmosphere hasn't. Great family feel. Great prices and its a three course meal! And now they have a bar.

Food was awesome. Server was good. Enjoyed the appetizers of mushrooms and $2 beer with our meal.

My husband and I moved away from the area five years ago and always love Seros but we gave this place a go and it was almost exactly the same. We both had a gyro meal combo and it was just as delicious as we remembered! I even had to take a quart of the chicken lemon rice soup home to fulfil all of my pregnancy craving dreams :)

I really love this place. I eat here every day. The owner is here all the time. They work so hard. They work together and respect each other. The place is spotless. The food is so good. Does not matter what you get. From enormous breakfast to moussaka everything is so tasty. I am so happy to comein here. I feel like part of the family.
