Altman's Restaurant

We stopped in for a quick lunch on our northerly peregrination, not knowing what to expect, maybe some passable enough grub. What we got instead was the best meal we'd had in months. Everything was otherworldly deliciousness: juicy fried chicken in a light and crispy batter, chicken liver and gizzards bursting with flavor, tender and scrumptious fried pork chops, creamy coleslaw, the best fried okra I've ever had, great sweet potato fries and more. Service was polite and very pleasant (and tolerant of our two rambunctious toddlers). Please note: this is definitely not "fast" food, our order took quite a while, but it was worth the wait.

I don't post many reviews, but I felt I needed to as I strongly felt this place deserves a better rating than what is posted as I write this. I was very impressed with this place. I did not choose the buffet, but it had a good assortment of home cooked-type food there. I ordered a simple chicken quesadilla and they delivered more than I could eat! And it was amazing. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. It's definitely worth the stop.

Great find off of 95 at exit 58. We will be sure to stop next time! Our waitress was so friendly and pleasant. You can tell when employees enjoy their jobs. Prices we really good too. Big portions on all baskets and platters, a buffet with steak and seafood, even good size kids meals.

Absolutely, hands down the best buffet I have ever eaten! Good home cooking, great service and staff. Nice atmosphere. Great buffet and even better seafood plates! And the price is very reasonable

We just had a quick rest stop from FL to NC when we stopped randomly here for lunch.
We tried the buffet and glad we did, the fried chicken tasted very good! Corn on the cob was very good as well..
The buffet doesn’t looks the best at first sight, I have to admit, but after eating I was happy and satisfied.

Nice little country restaurant to sit a while and enjoy your company. Good food. Stop in if you're not in a hurry.

Can't say enough good things about this local spot. Beth was awesome and went above and beyond for our group. Recommend the "when in Rome" strategy and go for the specials of fried fish or shrimp. The flounder basket was awesome. Their battered fries were some of the best I've ever had.

We stopped in Townsend for an overnight on our way to Florida and found this little small-town gem. The restaurant was clean and the service was great! We ordered an appetizer of fried mushrooms and a cheeseburger and Buffalo chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches came out quickly and were perfectly cooked! The mushrooms were a large portion and you could tell they were hand battered Large mushrooms. We ended up taking some home with us because they were so large. They have lunch and dinner buffets that are reasonably priced as well. They are at specific times and they were setting up for dinner when we were there and it looked amazing! There is also a breakfast buffet Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for only $6.50. As we were leaving, I saw a sign for Red Velvet Cheesecake and got one for later. It was amazing! If we are ever in the area, we will definitely stop in again.

Absolutely delicious! Very friendly staff. You know it's a good place when there's a Mercedes parked next to a beat up worl truck! Buffet was well worth the price ($13) and the sweet tea was amazing!

Altman's food is always great. It is some of Coastal Georgia's cuisine at its best! The shrimp, fish and crab are all local and cooked to perfection. The only improvement I could suggest in that department would be about the scallops. They are very small and not all that tender... much like the cheap ones that you could buy at the grocery store. But that is probably due to the season. Otherwise, the food was topnotch as usual. You have to love the Coastal Georgia history of this place to enjoy the dated atmosphere. But it is very clean, casual and friendly... a simple, family oriented establishment. I will also note that it is under new ownership... so far, so good!

This place is absolutely wonderful. All the servers were nice and helpful despite the restaurant being very busy with great recommendations. We had the hush puppies (amazing, try them with the house pickled garlic vinegar at the table) the crab cake sandwich, and the hwy 17. The crab cake was incredible and absolutely huge, well spiced with no filler and tender crab meat. It comes with a spicy remoulade and a big fluffy bun and it's fantastic. The hwy 17 is a burger on toast and I loved it. It's like a lighter patty melt, with fresh lettuce and tomato. Get the battered fries for sure: hand cut, double fried, very lightly seasoned. You can enjoy a saltier entree and not feel like the fries are too much. They also have a board up where you can purchase a meal for someone in advance who can't afford to pay for their meal. This is the thing that made our experience different: it wasn't just that it was a great meal (it was) but that Altman's is invested in their own community. Do yourself a favor and visit.

Good salad bar and buffet options with a wide variety on the menu also. Friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, and great service.

This place is amazing we was coming trew and stoped I got the bbq sandwich boy was it amazing I also shared there menu our waitress was extrmly nice keep our cups filled I deff give this place a five ⭐ rating

Good food...great service..menu is reasonable...I order bout 2 times a week....want to try Sunday breakfast.....can't seem to wake in time...lol

My husband and I got their Shrimp Po-Boys and it was some of the best shrimp we’ve ever had . We made a stop there on our road trip since it’s close to 95 and I hate that I won’t be able to come back anytime soon but I will definitely try to get it if I’m ever in the area again .

Great buffet with fried chicken, ham, turkey & dressing, cream corn, green beans, collard greens, rice, mashed potatoes, banana pudding, and a salad bar. With a drink, it totalled about 12$.

We stopped here during our drive back home from Disney & the food was delicious. Service was excellent, our waitress was very friendly

Stopped in on our way home from Florida and absolutely loved it very nice staff and really good food I absolutely loved the fried Chicken and my brother really loved the shrimp he had definitely coming back of I ever get that way again
