Chestnut Hill Cabin (Rental)

First impressions of Chestnut Hill were amazing. The drive alone to get to the cabin was an adventure itself. We loved the place right away and it didn't take the kids long to want to get into the hot tub. We would recommend Iowa Cabin Rentals for any cabin rentals. We definitely plan on staying again in the future.

This is a cozy cabin that is quite close to some very good trout fishing in NE Iowa. The cabin itself has everything you need plus a great hot tub. The scenery is quiet and peaceful. The hosts, Gabby and Corey, go out of their way to make your time the best possible. A grill is available on the spacious covered deck and a wood burning stove is there for a cracking fire. All you have to do is ask for some wood and they give you lots. We had a great time there and would go back anytime.

Very clean countryside decor with all contemporary amenities like WiFi and cable. So much to do. Gorgeous views. Amazing trails. Attended by kind and polite young owners. What a break from urban hectic!!!

Awesome Cabin!

Good cabin area in the woods on a gravel road. Cabin could use some TLC but good hosts that were responsive.

I stayed here with some guys as we trout fished in the area. I was not the one that rented the cabin but a member of our group did. This group of friends has been doing this trip for 10 years and have stayed in cabins all over NE Iowa. I would say this one was certainly below the quality that we were used to. It was fine for a group of guys but I would have been angry if my family had rented this place.

Pros:
- Excellent Location. Close to Paint Creek
- Two huge TVs and YouTube TV.

Cons:
- Property and cabin were clearly not kept in good shape.
- Although we new there would be no linens (weird in itself) there were also only two rolls of TP and no paper towels.
- One garbage can in the whole place.
- Grill was useless as it had a massive mouse nest in it and the grates were bent, rusty, etc. There was also another grill randomly in the woods by the house and another grill tucked behind the large LP tank for the house. So don't plan to grill.
- Ladder to the basement was something out of an amusement park. If you have mobility issues, you can't use it. There is also a door to the basement on the back side of the cabin.
- Broken interior lamp just hanging out by the hot tub.
- Burned up cushion just haphazardly left on the deck.
- Water level of the hot tub was 3/4. We had to add some. But no hose so we had to use buckets filled inside.
- Pots and pans were totally beat up, rusty, etc. Wouldn't have used some of them to cook on.
- All the hand soap was clearly watered down to make it go farther. Pretty tacky.
- Holes in walls. No mirror in basement bathroom. No towel hooks anywhere. No shower curtain liner, etc.
- According to the guy that rented it, communication with the owner was not the best. Took days to respond, etc.

I want to emphasize again that we have stayed at 10 years worth of properties in the area and even more around the country as individuals and with our families. Pretty resounding agreement that this place was in rough shape and the worst we've stayed in for sure in the area.

OK for dudes. Everyone else stay away.
