Growing Through Games

Our son attended the One Shot Wonder D&D campaign and loved it! We are excited to have him join more sessions in the future. The environment is warm and inviting. As a fellow educator, I am so thankful that Jill has created this safe space for kids to come together and share their common interests. It is such an incredible asset to our community.

I signed my kids up for the Homeschool Heroes class. My kids have fallen in love with it. As a home school parent, I see so many benefits from the class: listening comprehension, working cooperatively, creative problem solving.... Bonus: my kids have taken their love for the class and extended it to our home school. They often spend hours researching, developing their characters (writing everything down on their character sheet), and talking about probability and stats with each other. Jill is great with the kids. and I enjoy listening in to hear what everyone comes up with.

I am normally not someone who leaves reviews for places, but the owners of Growing Through Games are so phenomenal I would feel guilty if I didn’t sing their praises. But in the name of convenience let me give you a quick thesis and then give you my reasons why I feel that way below: You may very possibly have a closer tabletop store or see prices on Amazon and think, “Well hey, they’ll ship it right to my door” but I am here to tell you that you should close your computer, drive past any possibly closer stores, and go here instead.

I’m into Warhammer 40k and have looked in about a 75 mile radius of where I live, and nobody sells for the same price they do, not even Amazon or Games Workshop themselves (before factoring in shipping as well). The owners are clearly very passionate about the hobbies (the back shelves are lined with their models they have painted and assembled) and love to talk about the games. I went in to get some paints for a set I am assembling and after a literal hour and a half of just chatting I could barely pull myself out the door (I had an appointment I needed to get to). I came in with a rudimentary idea for a fighting force, explained it to him, and by the end of our conversation he and I have crafted a well rounded and extremely capable fighting force able to kill literal GODS in one to two turns with little to no retribution. As if this wouldn’t already be more than good enough I have yet to buy something where he didn’t give me some kind of discount or bargain. Heck, My car was totaled two weeks ago and the man even helped me pick a friggin’ car to replace it. I’m sure they’ll help me with my taxes or something next, honestly at this point they would probably have to l i t e r a l l y light me on fire to sour my opinion of them. If this didn’t already make them the cream of the crop, they also host a number of different weekly events and camps for kids to get into tabletop games and make friends with a similar interest, and I speak from experience when I say that’s the hardest part. Growing Through Games is not only now the ONLY place I will be buying my tabletop things from but they are also the only place I can recommend in good conscience. If for some reason I have to move far away and can’t drive up to buy things in person I will call and ask them to ship it to me for a premium. The owners are nothing shy of the “Mr. Rogers” of tabletop and deserve more customers, a sentiment I hope to fulfill with this impromptu persuasive essay. A short review that has rapidly snowballed as I sit attempting to relay a sentiment my extensive lexicon of the English language fails to relay. If my words fail to rouse your interest, then take the fact that I have spent three of the seven hours of free time I have in the day trying to relay how awesome the abhorrently underrated game shop is. Which should stand as a testament to how great my regard for this shop are...and probably also a sign that I am suffering from some form of psychosis, but that’s like a “me thing” so don’t worry about that. But I’m approaching my fourth hour writing and second bottle of wine so I’ll leave it at that (also I don’t want the owners or you to think I’m some kind of crazy person). Please consider buying from this store, even if it’s just once, the owners are awesome people and deserve your business.
