We are from San Diego area and came up to Mammoth for camping and fishing. After a couple days of not catching anything my husband decided to get a guide for our family of 4. Was a great decision and money well spent. Our experienced guide named Fauster was so nice and knowledgeable. He provided all the necessary gear. He was incredibly good with my younger boys. We learned so much, had a ton of fun, and most of all caught a lot of trout (also released a lot). We took 8 fish home to have two camping dinners. I HIGHLY recommend this place for anyone interested in lake fishing. Request Fauster if he’s available!

The crew at troutfitters are top notch. They helped my 12 year old son set up his rod and reel and helped him pick the proper line and lures! Thank you !

Visiting from AK and a guide; these guys were awesome and helped me pick out a couple patterns that helped me get on some brookies and bows!!! Highly suggest stopping through to cut the learning curve.

Loved checking out the local fly shop!

They were very knowledgeable and pointed us in the right direction for the type of fly fishing we were looking to do.

The shop is well stocked and they have plenty of gear, swag and of course a shop dog (mandatory).

Definitely the go to place for your fly fishing needs while in Mammoth.

First impressions mean a lot! I liked the vibe when I came into this place. I was looking for some flies and I ended up getting what I needed plus local Intel& a free gift. These guys seem like they really want to help you out. You may not get a free gift but you'll get great customer service.

Chris went way out of his way to get me back up to speed with my fly setup. It’s been 15+ years away from fly fishing the eastern Sierra. What a helpful knowledgeable crew. I’m eager to get set up this evening. Thanks guys.

Came in after leaving our fishing gear at home while in mammoth. Customer service was excellent and they helped me get basic gear for my kiddos without trying to upswell things we didn’t need. Kids had a great time and even caught a rainbow trout!!

On a fishing trip north of mammoth and my boat sprung a leak and my buddy had lost his valve for float tube. We went into Troutfitter and was greeted by employee asking us if we needed any help. Had plenty of valves and recommended Tear-Aid to patch my boat. Great customer service! Super friendly and got us back in the water fishing in no time!!! Will definitely recommend!

Ordered for first time in 2022. Shopping for Ross Colorado and could not get local shops to return calls. These guys jumped on it and were awesome from the start. Friendly as can be, kept me updated and order arrived on time and perfect shape. Highly recommend regardless of where you live.

I wanted to write a review because I went in there today and I had a LOT of specific questions about fly rods, fly reels, techniques for specific spots etc, and the staff was extremely helpful. I wish I had asked for his name so I could include it, but shout out to the employee who is pretty young and very tall. He was extremely knowledgeable, and the part I appreciate is that he was very enthusiastic in helping me with all my questions. I could tell he loves fly fishing and loves to help others learn. He even stayed 25m minutes past closing to answer all my questions.

Also a shout out to the shorter Asian(sorry don't know name) employee. I had purchased a cheapy outfit off amazon a while back and the line didn't come with a welded loop for loop to loop leader connection. I asked him about it, I had the rod in my car and I brought it in and he tied a perfect nail not to perfection loop at the end of my line with tying thread then sealed it all up with UV resin for me, free of charge. That tying thread perfection loop works fantastic, better than a welded loop because it doesn't get caught in my guides at all.

Also, I've bought my fair number of flies there and what I appreciate is that at most fly shops typical flies cost 3-4$ each, but I looked at the receipt last time I bought a bunch of flies and the price averaged out to ~$2.50 each. When you buy a lot of flies, that adds up.

Overall, great fly shop with the most helpful employee's I've met.

I have been a customer to the Troutfitter since 1995. It is our go to outfitter for fishing reports, gear and just plain great information about fly-fishing. Even though there has been different owners, the store and staff still has that bitchen feel of being there and the whole Mammoth town. Today I called to order a new float tube (out of stock) but that is the norm these days of post Covid. Still, even though the staff cannot make a sale, they took the time to talk and chat about gear and other related fly-fishing items. Support your local shop and online stores. It is not easy being in retail these days and be respectful on the water.

I bought a pack that had a factory defect. Since it was still brand new, the owner was able to give me credit and swap it out for a different pack. Solid dude.

This place is my happy place! I went into this shop last year while staying at Convict Lake resort and fishing the Owens. They had a huge shop compared to what I am used to and pretty much had everything you could want for fly fishing. They literally had tons of premium inventory and every brand. I wish we had stores like this in Austin. I am used to a shop not having the specific rod or reel I am looking for or the right rod but not the right wt. This place had every brand reel/rod in every wt/size/ and usually in multiple colors. They had tons of Simms and Patagonia waders in every price range and size (even tons of womans sizes) They even had tons of saltwater gear which is what I usually do here in TX. And if you tie flies they had a dedicated room just for that.

The staff was very knowledgable and friendly. They gave out their personal fishing holes for my wife and I to try out as well as restaurants and hiking trails. They also had really nice Simms Performance T shirts with their logo that I wear all the time.

To give you an idea of how much inventory this little place packs I've bought several reels and rods on ebay and when I look at the seller it says "Troutfitter." So now whenever I buy stuff online I usually just go to their ebay store and see if they have it first because I know they will do me right and I like supporting this shop from a couple thousand miles away.

If you are in the area I suggest stopping by and buying a new rod, reel, waders, or at least a Troutfitter shirt.
