Medjugorje Catholic Church

In front of the church is the marble statue of the Blessed Virgin, which has become a symbol of the shrine.
The current church of the Catholic parish and dedicated to the Holy Apostle James the Great (Sveti Jakov), predestined name, St. James being the patron saint of pilgrims, was completed and consecrated in 1969.
Today, the huge number of pilgrims makes it sometimes (often) too small. The morning liturgical program, as we have seen, is conducted in several languages. The pastoral care of the parish is confided to the priests of the Herzegovinian Franciscan Province of the Assumption of Mary, established in Medjugorjie in 1892. By this I understand, perhaps I am wrong, that the parish is cared for by the Franciscan Order and not by a Catholic diocese....maybe with some consequences.

Medgugorje is a magical place for everyone. I am not a Catholic but am a Christian and I felt it to be a place of silence/tranquility/ spirituality/ and reflection. A spiritual retreat of sorts! This church was beautiful as were the surrounding grounds with symbolic statues and the atmosphere was electric! People from all over the world came for the pilgrimage and I heard at least 7 different nationalities ( probably a lot more) . We attended the English mass the two days we spent there and had the pleasure of hearing Fr. Leon speak and he is one of my all time favorite speakers! You can tell he definitely has a calling and he loves what he is called to do. His messages “spoke to my heart” in so many different ways that I could relate to so I highly recommend going to his services! Mass is held in so many languages- there is something for everyone which I appreciated! Love this church and the town of Medugorje! I haven’t left yet ( leave tomorrow) but already want to come back! Always my first visit of Mary next to St James Church on my spiritual trip in Medjugorje. Dear God almighty, please save this piece of Earth in Bosnia and Herzegovina so that many millions can visit and feel the peace and the mercy God is giving us. Thank you so much to our Holy Mother who is present there. 🙏💖🙏

It is the main church of Medjugorje and where the daily morning mass is celebrated. Really unique and a place for a spiritual experience. The Church is always open, and confessions are made beside the church in many languages.

Amazing place. Peaceful Masses said in many languages at the same time in different parts of the church grounds.

Huge parish church were around 40 years ago miracle took a place and a group of kids have seen a Saint Maria.

So grateful to be able to undertake one of our first Saturday devotions here in Medjugorje. This is my second visit (my wife's fourth) and despite the increasing popularity it remains a very spiritual and rewarding experience. Mass, rosary, confessions and adoration are all regularly celebrated in multiple languages, throughout the week and the programme is available in most hotels as well as at the church. Whether you come in a group pilgrimage or by yourself, let Our Lady bring you here at least once.....

You can feel the presence of God in this church and this town. The peace found here is worth the trip. This is a true Catholic town, where heavens opens a window to earth!

A beautiful church! The Rosaries, Mass and Adoration were beautiful and music was soulful. Was a beautiful Statue of Mary in the righthand alcove which many visited. Mary visited the visionaries there many times in the past.

The centerpiece of Medjugorje. The faithful from around the world are drawn here. Mass inside or outside, are international gatherings. The atmosphere is a spiritual awakening. While here, visit the garden of the Resurrected Savior, Ajdo Ajdics beautiful creation.

Medjugorje is by far the most amazing place to visit. The peace and serenity that surrounds you from a distance prior to stepping a foot on the ground. I am a believer, so, I believe. This was my 1 st. time visiting Medjugorje. There is a PEACE that emerges and allows you to feel, see, listen with all your senses. The experience was truly exhilarating and peaceful at the same time. I am looking forward to visiting Medjugorje again in the near future.

A truly amazing place to be, there's a real sense of peace and spirituality in Medjugorje and especially in the Church.

Nice church. We visited while on pilgrimage in Medjugorie. It is a very short walk to downtown area. Location is great.

Definitely a place to visit and pray for peace.
