Such an amazing place to visit! I definitely recommend stopping by if you are heading towards the mountains or away. Abraham Lake was one of our stops before arriving to Banff.
The view of the lake was covered in snow and we were not able to see the lake nor the bubbles since it was still March, but it was still so beautiful and breathtaking to be there. The walk down to the lake was a little rough since it’s all rocks, snow and ice but it was worth it.
I will definitely visit again when it’s warmer, but coming here during the winter was still a great experience!

An amazing experience during the deep freeze in winter!!Gas produced by aquatic life gets trapped and freeze over during the winter months and creates these beautiful ice bubbles!!! Please wear appropriate clothing and Footwear with ice cleats if you are planning on coming to take pictures and enjoy this beautiful scenery!!

In the summer, it becomes a sanctuary for leisurely Sundays, where one can revel in the beauty of the landscape, capture stunning photographs, and soak up the sun's warmth. As winter arrives, the lake transforms into a mesmerizing sight. Its frozen surface showcases a captivating spectacle of icy beauty. Amidst the frozen expanse, bubbles emerge, adding an enchanting touch to the scene. Whether in summer or winter, this serene lake offers an opportunity to connect with nature, capture its magnificence, and immerse oneself in the tranquil ambiance it provides.

Love this place for a quick photo opportunity and picnic rest stop while either entering Banff National Park or when leaving the mountains behind. Will definitely have to plan a winter visit next time. We visited in early spring and it was amazing to see turquoise waters in one direction and ice covered lake surface in the other direction. Super quiet with no tourists and only wildlife around.

We recently visited this stunning place based on a friend's recommendation, and it exceeded all my expectations. The water here is unbelievably cool and exhibits a mesmerizing shade of blue that is simply breathtaking. This unique feature can only be witnessed during the summer months, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts. I highly recommend adding this place to your itinerary to fully appreciate its beauty. Don't miss out on this incredible experience!

A must go place for your winter visit. Very windy and watch wild animals may pop up on your way there. Ice cleats will be helpful to walk on the ice

Winter heaven!!
I have seen this lake many times while driving from Edmonton to Banff or Jasper in summertime. In summer, you won't feel anything extraordinary about this lake even though it is a very beautiful lake.
This is the first time I have been visiting this lake in the winter. This is absolutely one of the best spots you can visit in the winter. If you haven't seen the ice bubbles yet, you have to visit this place.
Make sure you carry all the gear, including cleats, gloves, etc. When I visited there, the weather was only -2 degrees, but it felt really cold because of the constant wind.

We visited here at march, 2023. Got to see the fantastic natural scene~ bubble lake surrounded by snow covered mountains. Ice cleats needed. Dress up warm~ very windy. Definitely worth to see. No need to join the tour if you have a car. Bathroom on site.

Just incredible. Visited here in the summer and it's just as pretty in the winter ! The sound of the Ice cracking is awesome (It was 2 feet thick) Methane bubbles were cool but the blue ice on the far side of the lake and ice cut were even better ! Just invest in really good spikes for your boots !! Please give a 👍 as it helps a lot .

It takes 3+ hours from Calgary to go there. The day was amazing and the bubbles just perfect. We were ice skating on the lake and enjoy the day. Parking lot is big, there is a washroom, but no bins, so we took our garbagge home with us. Spikes are handy once you go up and down as the path to lake is icy. Roads were dry and drive enjoyable. It is nice calm place to visit.

Worth the drive. It was truly amazing how methane bubbles were trapped inside a frozen lake. You can even skate and enjoy the view, you can view the bubbles the whole stretch of the lake. Just make sure to be careful going down in your vehicle as many has been stuck in the snow.

Awesome place, great views. Windy af (take precautions) and the bubbles look awesome.
Take proper equipment to walk on ice (if you want a better view of the bubbles).
Also, full gas tank because in winter there are no close gas stations and there is no phone signal

Sunrise on Abraham Lake.
Going out onto the lake to see the ice bubbles is not necessarily ideal on the frozen lake for families as there is open water in spots in January. So caution and attentiveness are required to stay safe

Went there on Jan22, 2023. It was unplanned trip with a friend of mine. Just one morning decided to go somewhere for fun and went here. The frozen Abraham lake is pretty and to witness the bubbles is pretty amazing. Make sure you wear proper shoes and winter clothes when you decide to go in the middle. It's quite cold and also wear a ice cleats in order for you to walk in the ice which is we didn't do it because it's kind of a rush and unplanned trip. We're having hard time going to the ice but made it with a few tries😅😅. It's worth visiting.

No bubbles at this period of time, I just pass by and do a test run before I come back later in January or February. But I found out some rocks were covered by ice, it looks so cool! Like a cake with melting icing.

The Ice Bubbles were so beautiful to behold. Had an amazing time here. Just make sure you have your Shoe Cleats or crampons. People also came with their skating shoes and board slides. It was really beautiful.

So cool! It was a two hour drive and we couldn't find the spot right away, but so worth the effort! It was quite hard to get onto the ice, due to the falling water level creating a icy slope on the banks of the lake. So if you have shoes with spikes, that will make your life easier! However, we had none of that and still succeeded to get on and off the ice. Very cool phenomenon to witness!
