Birds and breakfast

We had a wonderful two night stay here. Fabio and Marcela were excellent hosts and the views from the property were great. We saw lots of cool birds, made easier with the binoculars and bird ID information provided. The road to the property is rough, but we did make it with a 2-wheel drive SUV. Would definitely recommend as a peaceful, beautiful spot to stay.

This place is amazing! As a group of birdwatchers and photographers from Florida, it felt like we were seeing something new here every single day. The garden is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for looking for other animals such as frogs, lizards, and bugs. The bird feeders brought in so many colorful and unique birds - probably all residents of the park right next to Birds and Breakfast. And the couple who run the property, Marce and Fabio, were some of the nicest hosts me and my friends had ever met!

We stayed here for four nights, but we all wished it was longer. I couldn't recommend a better place to stay if you ever visit Costa Rica. The hosts were the best, the birds were incredible, the breakfasts were absolutely amazing, and the entire experience left us all wanting to come back!

My wife and visited from Canada and stayed for two nights in the Toucan room. The location has great views and is very quiet at night. Fabio is a great host and provided a lot of information about the birds in his garden as well as recommendations for the hike in the cloud forest which is right next door (the entrance is a 10-minute walk away). We were lucky to see a white-faced monkey and a very fresh ocelot track as well as many birds. Also, the breakfast is very fresh and complete.

We stayed at Birds & breakfast for only two nights and we wished we could have stayed longer. It’s a great place that attracts birdwatchers, families and people seeking tranquility. Fabio and Marce are fantastic hosts who clearly care about their guests’ experience and the care for and selection of activities reflects that. Pillows were the only downside.

We stayed two nights and had a fabulous start for our trip through Costa Rica. The hosts are super accommodating and helpful. The breakfast is prepared freshly in the morning and served on the terrace with a lovely view. Definitely recommend.

We stayed at Birds and Breakfast for two nights and what a beautiful way to start our vacation in Costa Rica! The property is lovely and a highlight, of course, was starting the day with a nice breakfast overlooking the bird garden (we were also able to see sloths near the property). Thank you to Marcella, Fabio, and the rest of the staff for excellent service (recommendations, borrowing hiking rain boots, etc.). Just to note that we booked through Expedia and there was some kind of error in the system, but Marcella was great about accommodating our stay (if booking through a third-party site, maybe just contact the property directly to confirm before :) )

Lovely owners who are very helpful and nice. We really had a great time. We really enjoyed the beautiful view and the bird watching. The night hike was also really stunning!

Marcella and Fabio are absolutely lovely and wonderful hosts. The whole place is super clean. Breakfast was delicious every morning, and you get to eat it while admiring all the birds that frequent the garden, from big to small, all colours of the rainbow. We also saw both sloths and toucans. If you're into this kind of thing, they also have a ping pong table. You're also just steps away from a the lovely Children's Rainforest with some hikes and a private little lagoon you can swim in. If you'd like to stay around Arenal while still being a little off the beaten path, can't recommend this place enough.

It is an amazing place to just relax and watch birds or if you want to go hiking and see some birds it’s great for that as well! I got to spend my birthday here and it was an amazing way to spend my birthday!! The hosts, Fabio and Marcella, are amazing! They are a lot of fun to hang out with! I would love to come live here for a longer time!!

Magical place with amazing people! Marce and Fabio are true nature lovers and fantastic hosts. It’s a must spot if you love bird watching and nature - you will enjoy every moment there. Wonderful atmosphere, delicious breakfast and company of fantastic birds. If you’re lucky you’ll spot sloths too. Marce and Fabio will recommend best hiking trails in the area, will help to organize other activities and will make you feel like home. Don’t miss the night walk with Fabio to look for nocturnal animals. Place made with love, simply place to be. Once we’re back to CR, we’ll visit Birds and Breakfast again! Although I only stayed here one night, it was a very nice place to spend it! The owners are lovely, and the outdoor breakfast area facing a yard full of birds is a great way to start the day. It's very clean as well. Would come back!

Everything here was perfect! Our super kind and helpful hosts, the comfy rooms, the amazing views, the lovely dogs, the bird watching and the night tour we booked with them. I really recommend making a stop for at least 2 nights here, you will not regret it. Thank you for everything!

As a couple, we stayed with Marcela and Fabio. They are excellent hosts. Very responsive and friendly. The place is great. The birds are fantastic and the place lives up to the name!

What a magical little place, at the edge of the forest. Marcela and Fabio were wonderful hosts, so friendly and helpful, and also so knowledgeable and passionate about sustainable tourism. We did a nice night tour of the forest with Fabio and his friends. The highlight of our stay was the feast of amazing birds we saw in the morning, while having breakfast outdoors. They couldn't have given this place a better name!

We stayed here Jan 4 after we landed from the airport. We got in pretty late around 8:30pm (16:30) and the couple who owns it were so helpful and waited for us to get in.

A couple owns it and lives there and it’s really nice to feel like you have trusted people there 24/7 to help you if you need it.

It was absolutely beautiful with a breathtaking balcony (open to all) and you really do see all kinds of birds! They have single rooms and rooms accommodating for a family at reasonable price! They also provide breakfast and are very gracious to accommodate food preferences.

It’s not a huge place (4-5 rooms I believe) and so it’s nice to have a quiet place but also to interact with a few others who are staying!

It’s great place to stay on your way to La fortuna, it’s only 45 min drive.

Also, the husband, Fabio, who owns the place does give night tours with dinner included and you get to see amazing animals like beautiful tree frogs!

So happy I stumbled upon this place.

Amazing stay! The hosts are welcoming, fun to chat with, and so knowledgeable about the area and animals around. We saw so many birds while staying here. I had a unforgivable stay! Marcela and Fabio were wonderful and warmhearted hosts who took care of me for any need I had. Having breakfast watching the birds in their beautiful garden is a priceless experience! I highly recommend this place: although not central, it is the perfect stay for true nature lovers.

I stayed at Bird and Breakfast in late July. Marcela and Fabio were very accommodating and friendly. The place was clean. The environment was calm and welcoming. The views from the balcony were amazing. Breakfast was good. The drive to their place is very steep. I recommend an SUV. I had a sedan and I managed but would have had a better ride in an SUV. Thank you for a great stay. I will be back!

I don't even know where to start. So good! The hosts are amazing, they're always spotting birds and sloths and pretty much everything, casually setting their telescopes (that might not be the right term but that's why I loved their help!) up and letting us know to check out the cool animals they spotted!
Good breakfast as well, great wifi, and the Children's Eternal Rainforest is right there. Across the 'street'
We felt like family. The other guests did as well, they were gushing too:)

The place is calm, away from the noise, with plenty of birds coming in the front yard. Great balcony to enjoy a beautiful sunrise. The road to get up there is made out of publes. It is quite steep, but if you are adventurous you can make it (we did it with our Hyundai i20)
