Lucky Bug Bed & Breakfast

We booked 2 nights at Lucky Bug purely based on great reviews by previous guests, and we had no activities planned in close proximity during the stay. Our experiences exceeded our expectations. It is by far the best B&B we have ever stayed at. Situated relatively far away in between tourist attractions in La Fortuna and Monteverde, it provided a quiet stop to take a break from a busy itinerary, relax, and enjoy everything around you. And how fantastic everything is around this beautiful B&B. From the unique architecture of the restaurant on the side of the road, with a stylish art studio, to the beautiful pond separating the restaurant and the B&B rooms. You could swim or kayak in the pond, while enjoying the birds and afternoon sun. The driveway leading to the rooms is lined with colourful plants and mushroom shaped lights. The rooms are spacious and clean, and well maintained. The most impressive is the balcony behind the restaurant facing the pond. It is decorated with hummingbird feeders, and every morning we would sit there enjoying both the delicious breakfast and the different coloured hummingbirds flying back and forth in front of our eyes. What a feast! Monika and Rob are fabulous hosts. We absolutely enjoyed our stay, and would recommend lucky Bug to all our friends traveling to Costa Rica.

Adorable - stopped in here for a quick coffee and ended up spending nearly an hour enjoying the grounds. The owner/operator is so kind, and we were able to find some cute souvenirs.

Definitely worth a stop if you’re driving by.

I haven't lodged here, but have had some amazing meals.

Having an apfelstrudel and coffee on their terrace overlooking the lake, and swarms of hummingbirds, is a must if you're in the area.

My son and I enjoyed Monica's German Christmas dinner tonight. I've been in Costa Rica for almost 7 years and this was one of the best meals I have had in the country. What delicious food!

The best breakfast anywhere around the lake. Great location. Great service. Very peaceful with insane amounts of hummingbirds. Lovely art gallery. And an awesome little dog called Bruno! Highly recommend this place.

Places we have stayed in Costa Rica. It is like a botanical garden and the hosts are wonderful !
Do yourself a favor and study a minimum of two nights. Nuevo Arenal
Is very close and has many good restaurants with great sunset views and is half the price of the cities.

I had the pleasure of having lunch there, which consisted of coffee, smoothie, and delicious French toasts. All this in the company of hummingbirds, surrounded by lush nature and with a beautiful view of the pond.

The owners are fantastic, the food is incredible. Rooms are very comfortable. The grounds are beautiful.

What a perfect oasis. I wish we stayed longer. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights while on our honeymoon. The property is beautiful and gardens are so well maintained. Monica and Rob were such great hosts— each morning Monica had a pot of coffee on and served a delicious, authentic breakfast. Dinner was delicious and there was a great variety to chose from. The art gallery on-site also had talented handmade gifts, souvenirs and other great pieces of work. I can tell the other guests were equally as pleased as everyone was so happy and cheerful. I hope to one day make it back!!

Amazing breakfast & lunch! The owners are so lovely & welcoming. Their art gallery sells many beautiful things that aren’t “Tchotchke” - ideal souvenirs! My daughters loved the adorable dog & 2 cats.

Lucky Bug is more than your average B&B. The spotless rooms with bath are in a building overlooking a small lake amid luscious foliage and totally separate from the owners home. Looking across the small lake you will see the restaurant where you will enjoy a magnificent breakfast that Monika prepares for you. The gift shop beside the restaurant area is full of unique (in a good way) items all made in Costa Rica (I got almost all my gift shopping finished here). If you are lucky, Ian, Monika’s grandson will take you on a jungle tour. My husband and I sat in the gazebo at lakeside and enjoyed the total serenity… wishing we had found Lucky Bug earlier in our travels. Thank you Monika and Rod for sharing this magical place!

Wonderful place to get breakfast or brunch and lunch. Service is very personal and quick. Atmosphere is very Costa Rica. Nice local artist showcase, with a room of art to browse and take home.

We had a lovely stay at Lucky Bug B&B! The hosts are kind and gracious. The location is stunningly beautiful- breakfast with hummingbirds was a real treat. Kids enjoyed the kayak and canoe in the lake and the furry friends too. Excellent place to enjoy for a few days. Great restaurants nearby as well.

We visited the restaurant only and have been here many times. The owners are charming and the food is excellent. Beautiful surroundings with hummingbird feeders stationed along a balcony overlooking a large pond.

This is a charming and beautiful property with mother/daughter team Monica and Catherine just as charming, friendly and accommodating. They have spent years (decades) landscaping and creating a little piece of heaven. The rooms are spotless and comfortable. Because they are right up against the forest and have a small lake there are a lot of butterflies, birds, iguana, frogs and monkeys. Breakfast was included in our stay and it is outstanding! These two ladies can cook! If you aren’t spending the night at least stop by for breakfast or lunch. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch sipping our coffee and watching the hummingbirds. If you’re lucky ask Ian (Monica’s 12 year old grandson) to give you an eco tour! He’s picked up the family charm as well!

Hands down the best place in Costa Rica we stayed at. From the email conversation up front, to the warm welcome, the spacious and beautifully decorated rooms, to the great landscaping and bird-watching we enjoyed over a fantastic, organic and world-class breakfast. Monika and Rob went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. They gave us great recommendations of where to eat dinner and what to do. You could tell they take pride in their work and genuinely enjoy interactions with guests. We will miss the Toucan, Iguana, super fresh hand-picked bananas and pineapples until we have the pleasure of staying at the Lucky Bug B&B again! Thanks so much for everything.

The whole place is amazing. Monica and Rob are super friendly and such a great people. They were super helpful. The breakfast is also quite quite good with amazing views. Quite big rooms with huge beds. Lovely.

This place is a hidden gem in Costa Rica! Central to many beautiful attractions, very friendly owners, clean and beautiful rooms around a beautiful lake. Food was also great!

Just checked in to Lucky Bug three and a half hours later than we had planned. Rob was extremely gracious to stay up and wait for our arrival to help check us in. From the moment we walked through the door we could tell this place was special - expert touches on decor and beautiful sounds of rain and critters as we finally cozy up in bed after a long day driving in from San Jose in the rain. Very much looking forward to breakfast on the lake in the morning! Will update then!

My fiance and I stayed here two nights as we traveled from Arenal toward Monteverde. The property is beautiful and breakfasts were scrumptious. Monika and staff were a delight to be around and we enjoyed chatting. We saw sooo many birds - the most hummingbirds I've seen in one spot. It was a wonderful stay - rooms were clean and comfortable beds with a nice patio overlooking the lake and property.
