My partner and I had breakfast here on our last day and are kicking ourselves for it. We should have come way sooner! He ordered French Toast while I had a Grande Acai bowl. Both were excellent! We also got coffee and a blueberry protein smoothie from the bistro downstairs and it was awesome!

What can I say, this cute little boutique hotel was a wonderful stay. Restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. Food was delicious, with a nice selection of healthy options. The hotel was nice enough to make tour reservations for us. This hotel sits back in quiet location providing plenty of privacy. I would definitely recommend 👌

My wife and I spent 12 nights here. The room was very clean, super close to the beach. We stayed in one of the 2 (I think) villas that have a small kitchenette. I had a few meals in the restaurant which were great, but also had the ability to make some of our own meals. The staff were great, and always willing to answer questions or help you in a pinch.

The property is convenient enough to shopping and self-guided tours. I'm a DIY tourist - I recommend renting a vehicle (4-wheel drive is best) for your stay. The community which houses the hotel is about 1.5 miles down a gravel/dirt road that gets bumpy in the rainy season.

Speaking of the weather - we stayed late July-early August and had great weather. Sure it rained, but only once, over the nearly 2 weeks, did it rain more than a couple of hours.

I really loved waking up to the birds and occasional howler monkey calls (much less noisy than I was led to believe). I look forward to my next stay at Hotel Cantarana

We ate at the restaurant here a few times and got coffee and snacks from the cafe below. Everything we tried was delicious, fresh and flavoursome. The hot sauce is a knockout. We’re big chilli fans and loved this one. Juices also delicious, get the fresh passion fruit if you can.
Everyone who works here is super friendly, both upstairs and down. Nice vibes and good spot to hang out.

Had a wonderful dinner on the upper deck with live music. Seats filled up Fast right after 6pm so be prepared. Service was still prompt even though the place was slammed.

Just ate at the restaurant last night. Food was delicious, and service was excellent. We had a large group and forgot to call in early but were welcomed and they moved some tables to make space for us. Everyone loved their meal and our server was so friendly and helpful - even taking the time to teach our children some Spanish :)

I loved my stay. Spotless rooms, beautiful grounds, great spot close to the incredible beach. But the best part of all was the staff; there is obviously a culture there that promotes service from the heart. I hated to leave; I felt like I was leaving home again! Also, the food was top notch: best in Playa Grande... everything on the menu (and I tried it all). I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Our 7th visit to this establishment. We were tempted to tell stories about dangerous salt water crocodiles snatching small children and pets and crazy marauding monkey troops terrorizing the area in an attempt to scare off folks from visiting this place. (so we could keep this as our little secret getaway) But, the facility was spotless, the pool was well maintained with wonderful lounge areas and the restaurant was the most charming place to have any meal (Breakfast, lunch, dinner). With this visit we've seen vast improvements in the strength, speed and stability of the Wi-Fi. The pool and grounds were in better shape than last year. The meals delivered from the kitchen were top notch, and the happy hour drinks had good effect. We did have minor difficulties with one of the new Work Away staff members being poorly trained lacking confidence in her job, but if you know their situation, you give them some slack.

Good food, good service, delicious smoothies and cocktails. We had patacones, pizzas, the poké bowl, and some drinks for dinner. For breakfast, we enjoyed Hawaiian pancakes, French toast, smoothies, and coffee.

A hidden gem down a dirt road in Playa Grande. Beautiful little grounds, great location. The staff is comprised of travelers and they were stellar, there's actual world class chefs in the kitchen (not hyperbole). This was the laid back Costa Rica I was looking for.

Excellent service, delicious food, great menu selection, good happy hour deals.
We had the canatara sunrise, pina colada, chicken tacos with fries, and civiche with plantains. Everything was super good. 👍

We will definitely be back to try more stuff on the menu.

Great food, great place!
We had breakfast at Cantarana. It is a bit more pricy when comparing with local food (Soda), but totally worth it and indeed reasonably priced, since the food is really great. Made with love and all fresh!

Fantastic bar and wait staff on the second level. Great menu (and prices) and cocktails with one of the only happy hours around. Everyone seems to speak both English and Spanish.
