Hidden Jungle Beach House

I think I left a piece of my heart there! Amazing accommodation, clean and ideally close to the town and minutes away from Playa Negra. A quit paradise hidden in the jungle. I loved the wall decorations and cozy community space. Well-equipped kitchen for those interested in cooking a meal. The soul of this place is of course Amy, the kindest and most helpful hostess. Five stars, five stars!

We really enjoyed our stay at Amy’s. It’s a really cute home which is created with so much love. Amy always makes sure that your feeling good and helped with every question. She also has a blog with nice tip for your stay at Puerto Viejo which we looked up a lot - we really enjoyed the coconut trail and the art cafe for example. Once we asked for the bus to the national park and after she showed us the bus stop at google maps she realised that there was a construction at the bridge and the bus won’t come, she even was looking for us to tell us for making sure we won’t wait there.

Our room was very nice and it even did have a balkony where we drank our coffee while watching some monkeys and a moscito net for the bed to keep those little beasts away from us during the nights.

The kitchen was well equipped - we didn’t miss anything there. There are also living three dogs, some chickens and a very chilled cat at the property - even when we both are allergic to cats it has never been a problem because everything is pretty outdoors.

In general it’s a nice little farmlife feeling in a very beautiful jungle garden and a small hostel with a very warm-hearted atmosphere.

Great place to stay when visiting Puerto Viejo. Close to town to walk or to hire one of the bikes here. The dogs, cat and chickens make you feel right at home. Great coffee and kitchen available. Wifi is great Amy is wonderful! I will be back :)

I loved my stay at hidden Jungle beach house. Amy was so welcoming and helpful with any tips for my trip! The rooms with a balcony make you feel like you are in the jungle - I saw monkeys and squirrels from my bed. Very peaceful place, 5 mins walk from puerto Viejo and a couple of minutes walk from playa negra (which is amazing For sunsets!!)

We had the topmost room of this fantastic place. The room is not possibly suitable for elderly, but for us it was just right. We had our own balcony with jungle view.

Very nice access to the black beach and to the town of Puerto Viejo.

Lots of animals and the jungle is just there. We loved the dogs and the chickens and even saw a sloth in the jungle.

The host is very nice and helpful :)

We stayed at Amy's Hidden Jungle Beach House for six weeks while waiting to leave Costa Rica during covid. There was a great group of people staying here as well. Amy was a wealth of information, she was always present when needed and very accommodating, the house is lovely and private, and the gardens are beautiful. The beach is just across the street and the centre of the town of Puerto Viejo is a very short walk or shorter bike ride. The house is Caribbean style and very cozy with lots of places to sit quietly or gather as a group. Highly recommend Hidden Jungle Beach House for anyone who enjoys the company of others with the ability to find a cozy corner to chill on your own.

Negra. I didn't mind being able to hear other guests occasionally, and the shared kitchen and bathrooms were never a problem for me, but those are things to consider depending on the level of privacy you want. I also really enjoyed having the dogs, chickens, and cat around. The whole place had a relaxed, homey vibe. I would love to stay here next time I visit!

Amy is a very nice host, very friendly and discreet. The house is in the middle of the forest, with chance to see wildlife just outside the window. Amazing. There are all the services needed, it’s clean and close to the beach and town. What else cooks you need?++++++++

I loved hearing the surf at night or the rain on the roof in the morning in my room. There was plenty of space to cook in the kitchen, the coffee was excellent and the room clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are kept clean. I would stay here again.

I love this spot in the middle of the jungel. The animal life som close to Puerto Viejo is like no other place I been to. Love it love it. I be back soon. Thank you Amy for the jungel life. Pura vida. Love Larssa.

Owner is super knowledgeable about everything in the area. The house is perfect for a small family And is tucked far enough away so that you can sleep at night, but not too far that you can't get anywhere. We rented bikes from the owner and went all up and down the coast while we were there. We also enjoyed being able to cook.

Beautiful cottage like guest house. Excellent location. Safe. The cleanest! And Lisa is just great. Strict rules but allows organization and respect among guest.perfect for female travelers.

Awesome place in Puerto Viejo! Close to bus station, very clean, large shower, and beautiful layout...I only met Amy on my last day and she was very kind.

I spent 11 days in this amazing jungle escape.
First of all, the hostess, Amy, is one of the kindest souls you will meet. She is helpful, accomodating, friendly, and makes you feel like you belong right from the get go.
She keeps this place as clean as an open air house can be, and is constantly available to help with any needs.
She also has free roaming chickens, and sells their eggs- which are absolutely amazing....I bought 9.
Bathrooms, showers, and kitchen are shared...giving it a hostel feel where you can become friends with the other house guests (I got to know every person who stayed here pretty well, and we all hung out frequently), so I highly recommend it for solo travelers and solo digital nomads.

Location is perfect. Close enough to town to walk or bike easily, but far enough away you won't be kept up by the traffic or tourists.
Less than a 3 min walk from a gorgeous black sand beach, with perfect water.
I love it here and would absolutely recommend it.

However, with that said... it is not for everyone.
If you can't handle bugs or animals, this is not for you.
If you want a high end hotel with AC and four sound proof walls... do not even consider this place.
If domestic dogs, chickens, or a cat bother you, stay away.

Think of it as a chicken coop for people. The windows are screened, but it doesn't mean much as there are holes and gaps in every corner, roof, and floorboard. The walls are single sheets of plywood, so you are very aware of all the noises. It's set in the jungle, so there are bugs...everywhere. You will be bitten. Buy bug spray at the local supermercado and use your hanging bug net around your bed at night. I slept without bugs just fine.

If you don't like camping, you won't like it here, and I recommend just finding something else.

If you like amazing people, a ginger cat who loves to sleep and cuddle with guests, dogs who welcome you, warm showers, working wifi, the sound of the jungle putting you to sleep while ocean breezes and the thunder of the surf vibrate through your body... you will love it here. I have, and would easily come back.

The host is sweet as can be, the tour was informative and amazing. I learned so much and encourage everyone to stop by to learn about the land

I was shuttled here. Everything I need is walking distance. I have felt safe so far with the locals. I definitely recommend.

Loved this place, it was super convenient to Puerto Viejo center and our host was available to help with travel plans and bike rentals.
