Must-do when near Puerto Plata! This place is hidden gem and I would recommend it to everyone who is looking for a calm and peaceful experience in a small local village within the mountains. The owners are super friendly and helpful and I would recommend to do the guided waterfall hike - it was the highlight of our stay. The food is delicious and you can enjoy it with the best view! The only things I would recommend to do is to come by car because it’s quite expensive to reach without and also there is not too much to visit around by walking. Further you should bring ear plugs because it’s super noisy due to the street, music and wind.

Amazing location set on the side of the mountains with amazing views and relaxing spaces. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinners at a extra cost as well as beer, wines and alcohol by the bottle or glass. There is road noise so I recommend eat plugs and a face mask as well as mosquito spray. The dogs and cats running around as well as the staff and their families living on site was wonderful as well to interact with some of the locals. 10/10 would stay here again.

This property is built with eco-tourism as the basis of their operation. Gorgeous views, calm, relaxed atmosphere. Operated on the premise of helping the community and local people grow and prosper. Excellent experience overall!

I love this place! The views are best i have seen anywhere. The rooms are rustic, this place is not a hotel,i it's a rustic mountain ecolodge experience, and its great!

The food here is the best i have had in all of the Dominican Republic. Not exaggeration here, the food is incredible.

The daily trips they offer are wonderful and educational and touching. Just wonderful!

I would recommend this place to traveling families, solo travelers, and couples looking for a romantic environment. It's a great place for the parents to relax and the kids to play.

The high altitude mountain air, and quiet environment are so very refreshing.

I do plan to come back.

Nice place with a great view. Great food and great atmosphere. Nice and helpful hosts. We will definitely be back.

Come back in 2023. We were 4 couples on a round trip in DR. Still an amazing place. Can also recommend hiking with a guide. The guide is knowledgeable, committed, proud of the country and good in English. Finally, a big thank you to Tim for his hospitality

We went on a hike with a guide from Tabagua Ecolodge. It was a beautiful hike through the mountains and jungle. After taking in the stunning views, we arrived at natural pools where you can have a refreshing swim or jump in. Thank you for the experience and for showing us the beauty of your country. After the hike you can relax with a beer or a tasty meal in the Ecolodge restaurant, which has excellent views of the valley. We prefer to pre-order our food just before we start our trek, so that when we get back to the Ecolodge it is ready super fast. If you have to use the bano, we recommend the special one. You will understand why in a very positive way :)

We didn’t stay there, but just had lunch before going on the trek. It was an amazing experience, and the food was excellent. People who staid there told me that they loved it.

This is what Tubagua is all about. Tubagua Ecolodge Puerto Plata is the ideal gateway for independent travelers in the Dominican Republic. Located in the dramatic Northern Mountain Range that runs the length of the Dominican north coast, Tubagua is surrounded by pure nature yet still conveniently close to everything; only 20 minutes from Puerto Plata International Airport, city and beaches.

Ecolodge Tubagua Puerto Plata is also close to Santiago, the DR’s second largest city, located an hour away via the scenic “Ruta Panoramica” mountain highway (Rt. 25). Tubagua is known for excellent home-cooked meals and helpful owners who readily assist their guests with their travel plans throughout the Dominican Republic.

This is truly an awesome place! The location is amazing! Went one a hike to the multiple water falls seen in the photos with a great tour guide from the DR. The dinning room has an amazing view that is simply unparalleled. Rainbows span the sky and landscape multiple times an hour and the mood is fantastic.

Writing this review, I still feel like I am on cloud nine, reminiscing on the one-of-a-kind experience that I had while visiting paradise on Earth. As a Dominican residing in the United States, I was in need of an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life (plus, it was my birthday and I wanted to do something special). Tubagua was that and more. From the moment I drove up to the lodge, I felt that I was in the most magical place for various reasons. I was immediately awestruck by the rustic beauty of the building structures, the landscape, and the amenities (including the pool). But, the view..the panoramic view is the most attractive feature. It's an exhilarating sight that makes you feel like you're on top of the world, while being connected to nature. The only struggle is waking up early from the most comfortable sleep to witness the sunrise.

On that note, the rooms are very unique and ideal for those that are yearning for an outdoors experience with vast amenities. Particularly, the casita that's below the restaurant is phenomenal. It included a comfortable bed with a traditional mosquito net, hot water, electricity, and that view that left me enamored and planning to return soon.
The service and hospitality is top-notch. I had the pleasure of interacting with the employees, as well as the owner and his family. Incredible kind and pleasant human beings that make the experience even more special. I am grateful to Tim, Jesse, Alfredo, Perla Taina, and everyone else that I met at Tubagua. It's aways a gratifying experience to meet people that care for the environment and its well-being. In terms of food...wow. I don't what I was looking forward to the most, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Everything was absolutely exquisite. It was also a plus to have Wifi to post the many "Instagram worthy" pictures!

If you enjoy nature and you seek the authentic Dominican experience, at another level, this is the ideal place. More than an ecolodge, it's an oasis. You'll definitely believe it when you reach the El Charco de los Militares or "God's Swimming Pool" after a pleasant hike in Alfredo's company. If the stunning mountain views aren't enough, the crystalline water will surely impress you.

I recommend Tubagua as the perfect getaway with your friends, significant other and/or family. Even as a sole traveler, you’ll enjoy the experience. It’s an oasis filled with the wonder, beauty and simplicity that will satisfy the wanderlust and the adventurers, the city dwellers, as well as those that reside in the countryside. You won't regret it!

Very nice visit. The food was delicious (for the vegans aswell) and rooms were clean. A little camping like experience in beautiful environment. Nightly noise of the jungle or otherwise the closeness to nature doesn't disturb too much. Host and staff were reallu friendly.

This is a must when traveling to see what Dominican Republic has to offer in the northern regions of the island. It is a short 30-40 minute ($45 each way) taxi ride from Cabarete or Sosua, but is a very different experience of elevation and beauty. The hiking tour was unique, educational and fun. I appreciated very good service, community and experiencing true sustainable processes co-existing in nature. The food was thoughtfully prepared and accommodated my vegan diet within the Dominican food experience.

Organic, both in the product and the efforts. This isn't a commercial coffee place, it's a group of local growers trying to preserve and protect there land and their heritage. Very educational, authentic, and fun. Plus, I got to drink some really good coffee.

Recommend.

Inspiring visit, where local people are encouraged to grow and market coffee and other local products. Great hands on experience planting coffee beans and talking part in grinding (huge pestle and mortar) coffee beans that had been roasted in front of us. Once the coffee had brewed we got to taste it - one of the best cups of coffee I have ever tasted.

Beautiful, unique place to experience the local culture. We loved the room/Casita and meals. And the views are spectacular!! Thank you, Tim, Jessie, Perla, Juanin, and Alfredo, for a wonderful experience we will never forget. You made us feel at home. Don't miss the tours to the coffee plantation, Amber mine, and hike!

Ideal place to transition from hectic American life to island pace. Million dollar views, great food and absolutely wonderful wonderful staff. Also amazing meeting people from all over the world at the family style meals.
