Mentawai Surf Retreat

Came here solo for a women’s surf week in Feb 23. As a non-shortboarding intermediate, was unsure whether I could/should consider a surf trip here at all … but so glad I went for it. What an experience ! Mind-blowing location. Vere and team took exceptionally good care of us, all of the time, with a super-friendly vibe. Their expert knowledge of local conditions and spots gave us the best possible surfing experience. Amazing facilities and food in such a remote setting. The yoga deck is breathtaking. These guys are the best, I would highly recommend them.

The best spot for a Mentawais surf trip. Right in front of Pit Stops which you can see from your room. The bungalows are very comfortable and the food was amazing. Highlight was the surf guiding and coaching from Tom. Not only did he take us to epic uncrowded spots but with his technical help my surfing improved 10x. Can’t thank Tom and the Team enough for the experience. If you are looking at the Mentawais you will have the trip of a life time here.

Great bungalows on beach which fit in with the environment pretty smoothly. The food is outstanding and staff were super enthusiastic and friendly. They found us uncrowded waves. I'd love to stay again.

Pretty much the best surf trip I've been on. What a dream trip come true - I put down a deposit back in 2020 and because of the pandemic back - forth trying to find a time to finally go. The cards finally aligned and I couldn't of asked for more:

+ Amazing spot "Pitstops" outfront to wake up to and sunset to

+ Surfed on probably more waves in 10 days (sometimes had spots to ourselves) then I do in a year -- Bankvaults, Nipissi, Pitstops, Burgerworld, the secret spot - MSR, 4Bobs, Goodtimes -- the surf guides always found something fun for us to shred.

PS> GET THE PHOTO / VIDEO package the quality is amazing of the talented Balin photographer/videographer --> amazing memories to keep

+ UNREAL food for a remote island -- you eat like royalty at this place, lasagnas, deserts, etc. like how do you do it so well in the middle of a jungle??

+ Service / Staff --> From pickup shuttle service to every day guiding at the camp Vere and his team are amazing. They are such wonderful people, great stories -- ask Vere about Robinson Coroso styles during COVID, and you can tell they take pride in running a wonderful retreat.

Already planning on coming back with my surf amigos!

I don't know how to tell you this, but if I find out you went to the North Mentawais and find out you stayed anywhere else, I will be very upset. Don't look further. These people are incredible, the place is incredible and there is simply not a better place to stay, eat, or surf.

The crew here is incredible. Vere and Team run an amazing program across the board. Chef Destra crushes in the kitchen. It's a mix of western and Indonesian food, and all of it is delicious. Tom and Ruby are so amazing people and guides. If you're lucky enough to have Balint there, you'll get the same level of pics I got, which were literally world class.

The bungalows are beautiful and airy, the restaurant/lounge is awesome, and you are literally ON Pitstops. You can go catch one wave if you want, it'll take you 5 minutes. You're a 10 minute max boat ride from some of the most famous breaks in the world.

I traveled all around the world surfing this year, and this was #1. Run don't walk.

Vere, Luke, Justin and team run an incredible resort and gave me, my friends and my family an unforgettable experience surfing in the ments the last 10 days. Can’t wait to book our next trip! Thanks for the killer waves, all the laughs and the amazing good time!

The break straight out front was super fun and was great to watch from the central bungalow over lunch or an evening beer.

What an incredible place! We cannot recommend MSR highly enough! The fact most our group was made up of return MSR guests says it all really. Vere and Sarah are great hosts and incredible surf guides, with their expert knowledge we consistently found ourselves with breaks all to ourselves. The tips and advice on how to maximise the potential and navigate each surf spot was evident in the lack of reef cuts on MSR guests. The staff were all lovely and it’s clear they’re all one big MSR family. The food was fantastic and plentiful with a great mix, showcasing local cuisine as well as western meals. The bungalows were cool and comfortable with good showers for after surfing all day. The location 50metres away from Pitstops meant sunset surfs every night and never missing a pulse when everyone else had gone home. Overall 10/10 and we’ve already in the process of booking our return trip!

Damn it feels good to be back in the ments. Had some looks from up high and couldn’t stop framing the goods. Hard to pick a favorite so here’s a little collection of deliciousness.
