A picturesque volcano crater which is now a lake and a tourist attraction. It was snow covered and the lake was frozen. You can either walk around the edges or climb down the steps to the lake. Both are wonderful experiences.

I'm sure it would look more vibrant in the summer.

Another gem of Icelandic nature. Had the luck to visit on sunset and it was out of this world view. It’s a great spot to visit while having a golden circle tour. It takes around 15 minutes by foot to make a full circle around the crater.

Impressive spectacle. Have to pay for parking but it isn't too bad. They'll pay you for any cigarette butts you find while walking around. Visited when lake was frozen over and could walk across it.

Wonderful experience! You can walk along the the top or take take the stairs down to the lake itself. About 20 minutes to do the whole experience. Parking is free but there is a small entrance fee of 500isk ($3.65). We thought it was beautiful even in the winter and definitely worth the visit.

A part of Iceland's natural volcanic areas.

A beautiful spot to walk around and take in some amazing views.

In the snow season it is obviously cold, but more importantly slippery in places and always when you least expect it!

We went with a tour group, again, advisable in winter as driving in snow and ice is a skill to be mastered.

Very enjoyable experience

This is a beautiful landmark and a must-see if you're passing it. It was a lovely place to visit. It would've been nicer to have more time to walk around the Crater but as we were on a tour we were time contricted and so only had a chance to go down to the lake.

Get up close and into a 6.500 year old vulcanic crater. You can walk around it as well. A symbolic fee to enter the grounds, but pleased to see no gift shops cafeteria there. Take your time and walk around it and even down to the water getting a full feeling for the impact it had a long time ago.

We were on the way south and visited this crater on the way. And turned out to be a lot bigger, nicer and more interesting than expected.
450 KR pp to leave your car and to enter the crater area. A fair price.
A trail leads around the whole crater. It's pretty easy to manage on dry days and definitely the thing to do to get and appreciate all the views of the crater.
The crater is is a mere 6,500 years old – making it one of the three most recognizable volcanic craters in Iceland. The caldera is approximately 55 m deep, 170 m wide, and 270 m across, and is made up of a unique red volcanic rock.

After completing the short, but wonderful roundtrip you also can head down to the bottom, where the small lake formed itself. It's mostly stairs and just a few minutes down. But definitely another must-do.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Lots of nice views and pics. It had some visitors, but nothing like at the major attractions. For me definitely a must-see when in Iceland.

Very special place. According to the sign boards, it is actually a small caldera, not a crater. But regardless, the scenery both down in it and the surroundings are stunningly beautiful. We arrived in a blizzard, but - typically for Icelandic weather - ended up seeing the sunrise and clear sky 20 minutes later.

Absolutely stunning place.
Quick walk to the pool, and an option to walk around the crater rim!
And we even had the fortune of a rainbow over the site after a day of rain!
A place to visit just for the ambience.

Kerid crater is generally praised for its unique and captivating geological features. Many visitors appreciate its vibrant colors, the contrast between the red volcanic rock and the blue-green water, and the overall scenic beauty. It’s often considered a must-visit destination for those exploring Iceland’s natural wonders.

Really cool place!! We almost didn't go here because some ratings were a little mixed, but I'm glad we went here! It costs a little to enter, but it's a small fee, to see a huge crater and area. It's different from many other attractions in Iceland, and very magnificent. You can go around the entire crater, and also go to the bottom by the water down the stairs. Totally recommend checking it out!

Amazing piece of mother nature’s creation. This crater has such outstanding surroundings and landscape. Very easy to climb to the top, and to talk to the bottom. There’s a walkway going around the lake. Few nice platforms created to take pictures. The soil around the crater has mix colors, mostly are red. The water in the lake is clear. It takes about ~30 minutes to 1 hour to finish the site.

Tickets are 450 ISK per person, over 12 years of age. Parking lot is free and has decent number of spaces.

Really neat place. Day we went was overcast and very windy. Did not hike around rim or down to lake level. Note that there is Admission fee. Parking is free. There is also a new parking lot next to the existing one that has a lot more space. Great place to visit with a neat history.

Pretty must stop as you are driving around the Golden Triangle. Easy to walk the upper rim, or venture down the steps to the path around the lake. Trail is marked for you and there are wooden steps in case it is rainy. Plenty of free parking right beside the venue. No need to buy tickets in advance and they take a credit card.

Very cold when we went (November), but so worth it - the walk up helped with keeping us warm. Beautiful views!! Would recommend some good shoes if doing this in snow!

Historic Volcanic crater part of the golden circle attractions. There is free parking with a small entrance fee per person. You can walk around the edge of the crater and venture down to the waters edge. Crampons required to go down in winter.

Great geological feature. Visited in winter time so very different to summer viewing. Small charge but well worth it can walk all around the rim of the crater and venture down if you so wish to the edge of the lake.

Absolutely fantastic place to visit on the Golden Circle tour. Absolutely stunning views of the caldera and the surrounding countryside. The red colour on the rocks comes from the iron deposits in the area and the lake is from groundwater rising up rather than collected rainfall.
450ISK to enter if not part of a tour. (Oct 2023)

Gorgeous views, almost a surreal experience. Make sure to dress warmly, it gets extremely windy to the point where it "throws" you around.
