You HAVE to go here! It’s so magnificent!
Ideal place to look over the Icelandic cliff and love trail around the area as well. Bring all of your camera gears for good photos!

Arnarstapi is one of the best places on entire island to observe Iceland's dramatic coast. From the elevated viewpoint you can see dramatic cliffs made of long basalt blocks, caves within it and stone arches and bridges.
One of the best stops along the Snaefellsness peninsula

A thirty-minute easy walk along the seashore.
At the beginning of the path (end of Arnarstapavegur), there is a tiny port in an artificial bay. Later, the walkway leads between an even smaller natural bay and a little pond, and then we see a bridge-shaped rock formation washed out by the sea. At the end of the path stands the modern statue of Bardur, son of giants and trolls, the hero of the saga written in the 14th century.
Back to the starting point another half an hour.

It is windy and chilled when we arrive on the first week of October. I can say it is one of the amazing sites in Snefellsnes peninsula that worth a walk of 1 hour to watch the cliff of stones in different formations.

A very popular tourist attraction in the Snaefellsnes peninsula. There is a well laden path to walk from one point to another. You can take a comfortable 2 hours to walk around the place. Although only a single view point is presented on the google map there is way more in actual at the place. Lots of places to park your car as well. Go before 11 am to avoid the crowds. We went in Sep 2022.

The walk along the coast from here to the harbour is one of the best coastal walks I have ever done. The cliffs are made up of basalt columns holding colonies of seabirds. There are arches, stacks and long inlets. Views to the east as you approach the harbour are breath taking. Look inland and Stapafell dominates the landscape. Follow the laid out trail from the car park.

Definitely worth a stop! We spent about an hour and a half here! There were some bathroom facilities around where the eateries were. The terrain is relatively flat especially if you stay on their rubberized boardwalk! The paths are well marked and there’s a parking lot with ample parking on either end. I would recommend parking by the stone statue! Note this is not a loop but you can cut across the park in the inner board walk path to get back to the other parking lot with 15-20mins walk!

The cliff walk at Arnarstapi in Snæfellsjökull National Park was probably my favorite stop of the day. The scenery was stunning. It reminded me a little bit of the rugged Route 1 California coastline drive we made back in 2017.

The colors and textures along the Arnarstapi coastal walk were a photographers dream. There was so much to look at as we walked the paths along the cliffs

Another feature of the cliff walk at Arnarstapi was the nesting bird areas. Terns and Kittiwakes were a popular site along the cliffs. Hundreds of birds were gathered making the cliffs their temporary home the day we visited.

The narrow cliff ledges for nesting, the ocean for fish, and near by fresh water river/lakes for bathing make the cliffs at Arnarstapi the perfect breeding ground with plenty of food and water.

This was a great stop as we made our drive around the peninsula. Very cool little town and a nice walk around the statue and to the edge of the cliffs provided amazing views of the coast. Very accessible in terms of the walk itself so it's worth spending about a half hour exploring.

Incredible viewpoint that you can watch the waves crash into the basalt cliffs from. Seabirds and ravens can be spotted from here as well.

Amazing cliff walking experience, with lots of sea birds flying around. From this viewpoint, you can get a great view of the waves crashing against the rocks. On a clear day, you can see the Icelandic cost for a good distance. Not to far of a walk from the parking lot area, just over 5 minutes, 10 if there are a lot of people and you're taking your time

We stayed in Arnarstapi on our trip to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and these cliffs were just a short walk from where we were staying. Very cool rock formations and we loved all the birds flying around. The national park is not too far from here too!

Visited in July 2022. Very scenic walk along the cliffs - definitely worth the visit!

The drive to Arnastapi from Grundarfjörður (where we were staying) was easy. I was a bit hesitant because I didn't want to take my rental car on any dangerous roads, but it was totally fine.

There is plenty of parking closeby and the "hike" is more of a casual stroll along the cliffside. I'm afraid of heights and I was totally fine. The lookout points have railings and the path isn't right on the edge of the cliff. I don't think there were any public washrooms, but there were restaurants near the parking lot.

A great coastal walk to view the rugged coastline of Arnarstapi, the track is very easy, and the viewpoints are sturdy. We went on a very windy day, be sure to check the weather before you go and bring appropriate gear as it can be quite relentless.

You can easily spend couple of hours here walking around the foot paths. There are few view points around here and view from each is different and fabulous. Not many people visit this place as it is not a very popular tourist attraction. But the time we spent here was well worth it.

Beautiful view of Icelands rocky coastline. The heart shaped rock formation in the water is a must see. It’s massive and beautiful sitting in the water.

Pretty views of the cliffs. Easy walk from viewpoint to viewpoint. Free entrance and parking. Take the walking path right behind the stone statue to get here.

Breathtaking 360° views, the cliffs, the mountains and you can see the peak of the Glacier behind! I'm a local and this place never ceases to amaze me.
