Piazza del Campo

What a beautiful place! This was one of our favourite trips out of Florence. We had beautiful weather and a tour guide showed us around the area. We got some great coffee at the cafes around the Piazza and some delicious traditional biscuits. Definitely worth a visit if you can fit it into your trip.

This square is really extraordinary! I fell in love at first sight. I totally recommend going there, just to stand for a moment and enjoy the beauty. I didn't go inside, nor bought a ticket but I so glad I just visited this place!

It might be busy but you could still get a spot and watch the crowd. Still somewhat relaxing amidst a big crowd. It’s a sight to behold. Best time of the year to visit for less crowd and weather - March/April

The square is hypnotic through its shape, surrounding buildings and the angle. Very enjoyable.

One of the many famous Piazzas in Florence. This one has beautiful statues, including one of the replicas of the David. If you don’t want to go to the Academia, you can see the David in this Piazza. It is just down the street from the Iffuzi museum.

A welcoming square that invites one to just sit and people-watch on the floor. We were able to drop by in the morning and had the whole square for ourselves (okay and maybe a few enterprising merchants setting up shop for the day)

Such a beautiful piazza! We were fortunate to be here during the horse races so the outer ring was packed with dirt for the races. The whole city was alive with the energy of supporting their neighborhood for the races. While there was extreme partisanship for their neighborhood all the people were still very friendly. One woman told me that while they are part of their neighborhood they are all Siena first. If you can visit during this annual event do so such fun.

Piazza del Campo is an amazing square, unique in the world.

The scenery, its story, the experience, the yearly horse racing, the surrounding bars and restaurants, it's all contributing to a unique experience not to be missed.

A unique Italian Piazza....1. Shape is semi circular, 2. Pavement is sloped, 3. Only the perimeter has eating and seats so the main space is for sitting on the ground to eat gelato and talk with friends!

The castle is amazing and the view at night of The Vatican is spectacular. You can go down the stairs of both sides and get pictures through the arches.

Enjoyed this main public oval (not square) in the town of Siena. Ringed with eateries and other shops, it has very lively vibe! Rather than the typical flat oval, the area has a gradual and distinct slope. Nice place to bring the family.

Popular piazza in the middle of town. Everything works off this piazza. Cafes,restaurants, wine bars, and retail shops makes it unmissable.
Of course, it's where the palio de Siena takes place with the various districts fighting to win the horse race around the piazza. They ride bareback and have many spills, but there is Always a winner 🏆

This is a must-visit medieval square in Siena, Italy. Siena is developed on three hills, leading to its three major roads that form a Y-shape, ultimately dropping you into a valley (the city center) -- Piazza del Campo or simply Il Campo. But if you explore beyond Il Campo, off the beaten path, you'll see how the Sienese live and be rewarded with beautiful scenic views. I also highly recommend you try Osteria le Logge near the San Martino Roman Catholic church - a short walk from Piazza del Campo. It offers traditional Tuscan food. In Il Campo, take time to sit a while and enjoy people watching as well as exploring the historic buildings Palazzo Pubblico and Torre del Mangia. Be sure to visit Antica Siena - my favorite for plates and commemorative gifts to take home.

Perhaps the largest historic medieval square in Europe. Known for the horse races that take place around the perimeter of the square twice a year for centuries. Lots of restaurants around but I suggest you eat outside the square to pay a lot less.

Sienna is a beautiful, quint little town with amazing views, a good choice for excursions, or half a day visiting the Toscana

I love how everyone sits on the floor, very relaxing yet grandiose square.

A beautiful place in the lovely town of Siena. Sometimes you can even sit in the sun in your t-shirt in January. Lots of restaurants to choose from and usually very friendly staff.

Great place to chill and have a nice picnic. The water on the piazza is drinkable.

Lovely piazza and church. Go elsewhere for food, though. It's very crowded and the restaurant staff don't seem to want customers.

Piazza del Campo has a special charm. People sit in cafeterias and enjoy the beautiful view. The piazza is surrounded by many bars and restaurants. People also sit on the floor, which is something wonderful to me. If you want the best view of Siena and to take wonderful pictures, go to the tower. It is mandatory to buy tickets in advance so that they can give you time to enter the tower. Its only ten euros and free for kids up to 12 years of age.
