The waterfall is undoubtedly beautiful, as is every other, especially if you are a nature and landscape lover. However, like in any other popular place, expect people for whom taking a selfie sometimes seems more important than safety. There is a sign next to the waterfall stating that over 40 people have already lost their lives trying to take the best photos.

A visit to the picturesque town of Ella would not be complete without taking in the wonders of Ravana Falls. This 82-foot waterfall, which is one of Sri Lanka's widest, is located six kilometres from the Ella railway station and inside the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary. Adventurers will discover that scaling some of the neighbouring rocks offers breathtaking views of Ella's beloved environs and the falls.

Beautiful waterfall, literally next to the roadside. Has developed only a little bit since we first saw it ten years ago, just with sturdier railings next to the roadside and a viewing platform. Don’t swim in this waterfall as it is dangerous (there are huge signs saying so, with a number of deaths 😬!) it’s slippy, and with the speed the water is a falling you can easily be swept off your feet. But all in all, there are safe places to view it from and it feels like an air conditioned bridge, which is soo great in the heat!

This is a waterfall located on the main road easily reachable on your way or through bus.
Ideal for a short stop to admire its beauty.
Bathing in the waterfall itself is not recommend and they have a separate area for bathing.
It can be a bit crowded on the viewing deck but with just a small wait time everyone can reach the best view points.
There are no fees or tickets required here.

It was a great experience. When we went there, it was foggy but eventually it got cleared out and we could see the beautiful Ravana's waterfall. It felt quite peaceful woth the sound of the water falling. It rained a bit ago so the water flow was even heavier. You don't need tickets. There are many shops around for having tea and snacks, and even corn. Beware of the monkeys around though.

Super easy to get to… right off the road. Can be crowded but plenty of good spots for photos. Beautiful falls even in the drier month of February.

It's a breathtakingly majestic waterfall in the highlands of Sri Lanka. Locally known as Ravana Elle or Ravan's Waterfall, it is reputedly where Ravan bathed when he chose to. The waterfall is mesmerizing, and the surroundings are sparkling clean and emerald green. There are many souvenir shops and small eating stalls as well as a few restaurants in the vicinity.

What a place!!! What a waterfall it is!! One of the biggest waterfalls in Sri Lanka. You can’t go to the top or you can’t touch the waterfall water due to security reasons but it’s a nice place to visit.

Tips: If you go in Rainy season you will find better views but in that time water is not clean as now.

Big roaring waterfall by the highway to Ella.
Signs warning not to bathe in the falls and beware of slippery rocks but there are also lots of monkeys ready to snatch loose items off unwary tourists!
Falls can became dangerous after heavy rain.
Free to watch from viewing platform.
