Akumal Bay - Beach & Wellness Resort

I have been here twice and had a wonderful experience both times. The staff is fantastic- friendly and accommodating. The food is really wonderful. I love the yoga and meditation classes and the spa is wonderful.
In general, the rooms are a bit dated but this is a small, quaint resort and I didn't mind at all. They were in the middle of renovations November 2023 so it seems they are sprucing things up. I think the beautiful views, gardens, food, and staff make it a non issue. I will certainly return.

Great resort - would definitely recommend!
We stayed for one week at the end of September. Our room was on the ground floor with a deck, hot tub and beautiful view. We were ocean view, 10 steps to the beach. This was great!
For an all inclusive, the food is good. Buffet was good, fresh and always replenished. Was it amazing… no, but then again, it’s an all inclusive resort where they’re feeding the masses.
The a la crate restaurants were very good. We liked that there was no reservation required as we hate being on a schedule while on vacation. Service was excellent.
The beach is nice. It is rocky so we had to find the spot where we could enter easily and walk through sand and avoid the rocks. There was no seaweed while we were there.
We had a lovely small pool outside of our room which we frequented. We loved this as it was never crowded.
The bars were good and there are a number of bars scattered through the property. Service was excellent!
We loved the lobby bar. Every night they had live music. The bands were excellent! We preferred live bands to watching a show.
Overall, this is a great resort. It is a quieter resort, they don’t play loud music all day long and there’s no disco. However, after the lobby bar closes at midnight they do have a 24-hr bar that serves snacks (burgers, fries, etc.) and drinks.

My wife and I stayed for our 4th time at ABBWR February 4th -18th and every time we go it gets better!.
If you are looking for a resort where you can just unwind and relax on the beach, read a book, with a delicious drink while listening to the ocean this is the perfect place for you. the staff are the best of any resort I have been to, from the staff that greet you when you arrive at reception ( Roman, and Philiberto), to German who makes sure you are well taken care of on the beach, to Daniela who always greets you with a smile and all the wonderful behind the scenes staff that ensure you have the best visit to paradise.
Make sure to do yourself a favor and go see Paula and her wonderful team in the spa. The massages are amazing and as a special treat Paula set up a Warrior reflexology appointment for me and my wife which was out of this world. It's apart of the new spa treatments that they are offering.
The rooms are always exceptionally clean and for us a great place to relax after a long day of snorkeling in the warm ocean while looking for the sea turtles, rays and the rainbow assortment of other fish. We always stay in the ground floor garden suites as we like to be able to sit outside and see all the iguanas and other animals come by to say hi. As well, it provides us a short walk to the beach and back to the room if we forgot anything.
The food is as good or better than any resort that I have been too and there are a wide variety of choices that will cater to everyone's tastes. My personal favourite is Alux which is the Mexican cuisine but you will have a fantastic meal in any of the ala carte restaurants or the buffet if you prefer.
all in all this is my most favourite place on earth and we already got a 5th trip on the books.

We stayed here for a week for a freinds wedding in June 2023. It was an amazing experience. The resort staff was amazing! German the beach manager gave us a very special memory providing us with fresh cut coconuts on the beach! He was also a great helped out tremendously with the wedding. I love this place and i will return!

Unlike other resorts, Akumal Beach and Wellness Resort is RIGHT on the beach. It was so nice to dine looking out at the water for breakfast, lunch and supper. Plenty of beachside seating. Beachside bar to keep the drinks coming ☺❤. The food is great, nice variety, morning smoothies and a good choice of restaurants that are first come, first served - we preferred this compared to arriving at the resort and missing out on the restaurants that were already fully booked.

The snorkeling is RIGHT off the beach - 25m to coral and reef fish. Turtles do wander this close to shore also. There is a line of roped bouys visible that outline the nature park - you can buy a pass to do an excursion into the nature park to see more turtles, but we were content with the reef located outside the nature park.

Paddle boards leave from the resort beach every hour for 5 hours daily on good weather (not too wavy). You do go with the group rather than hiring them separately. You get a life vest and snorkel/goggles for one hour daily free. If you want to keep them for 24 hours it's $5 US per piece (goggles, vest, fin pair) for the day - you keep your snorkel for personal use the whole stay.

There are lots of beach beds around the pool to chill on and there are three bars very close to the pool and three bars very close to the beach lounges.

The beach is sheltered as you are within the reef (no surfing) and it was lovely to walk along the beef and attend yoga/meditation sessions if you choose too.

Bar staff take drink orders at your seating (beach, pool or tables at the bar) or you can order your own. Live music each evening at the main bar was a nice addition and you can escape to quieter areas if you wish.

The most relaxing vacation I've ever had. Beach view from all areas of the resort including every room. Staff were incredible and every request was handled quickly and efficiently. Live music every night, yoga several times per day, and a spa that did not dissapoint. Could not ask for more!

We've been to this resort many many times and love the location, the employees as well as the level of service and food together with alcohol. If anybody finds fault with this resort, or any others in the area then you are just ruining your own vacation. Don't sweat the small things. You're visiting a different country and they have different ways. The Akumal Bay resort is a wonderful location and the employees are some of the best in the region, from my experience.

Oscar was outstanding for all our dining experiences. Edwin and Wilbur gave us such great bar service, it was really outstanding service.
Great spot for families, our daughter had a blast.

We arrived home a couple days ago after another wonderful week at Akumal Bay Akumal Bay - Beach & Wellness Resort (our 3rd visit)... Great service as always from staff including Filberto at the front desk, Wilbert at the Lobby Bar, Aurora, Valentina, Jesus (x2) at the buffet dining room), German at the pool and Alejandro (Aqua Aerobics + Biologist). It was an amazing week and we will definitely be back for more!

Very calm and nice hotel, amazing beach access, cleanliness is ok, rooms are ok, food is ok but diversity was huge.
Very nice staff in the hotel are very willing to help in every situation, however the lobby shop is very expensive. Special Thankyou to Enrique Ortiz for his good help and warm welcome. He helped us even in an extraordinary situation as my girlfriend got sick and need to go to the hospital.

We had an amazing time at this gorgeous resort! Pictures don’t do this place justice.

Service: Everyone was very friendly and always greeted us with a smile. We felt that people are happy working here, compared to some of the bigger resorts we’ve been to

Activities: Lots of daily activities to choose from; paddle boarding, beach volleyball, Spanish lessons, yoga, meditation etc.

Rooms: Rooms are outdated and in desperate need of an upgrade. There is no door to separate the rooms from the bathrooms and so it gets very humid in the room after you take a shower.

Yoga: Yoga is offered 3x a day and we thoroughly enjoyed all classes! We specifically booked this resort for their daily yoga and were not disappointed. Special thanks to Barbara, the yoga instructor, for always being welcoming and for being a great instructor!

Buffet: Lots of variety every single day. The food was great and flavourful.

Restaurants: We loved dining at Lima, Kooben and Alux. Amazing food and service. The Steakhouse wasn’t that good. Overall, great food at the resort.

Spa: A 50 minute full body massage cost me $120 USD. I didn’t think they were very busy so I walked in without an appointment. They were able to squeeze me in but I highly recommend making an appointment well in advance. The massage was very nice and relaxing. Maritza, my masseuse, was awesome!

Snorkeling: I would highly recommend bringing water shoes or renting flippers if you want to go snorkeling. We learned this the hard way. Too many sharp rocks in certain areas.

We had a great time and can’t wait to be back! The resort isn’t very big, but that’s definitely part of its charm.

Truly wonderful!! The staff is all so lovely and welcoming. This was our first time in Mexico and what an amazing first place to go. The pools were clean, never too busy and great location. The view from the balcony was incredible. Food was delicious, highly recommend all the cuisine available. The artisanal fair was lovely - I was able to shop from some local vendors and get some keep sakes for myself and loved ones. We saw a turtle, sting ray and swam right with a bunch of friendly fish. We were so sad to leave and wish we could stay forever!

Had an amazing time. The resort was amazing and had great decor that added to the vibe. All the staff were amazing and very helpful. The rooms were great but could do with a little update. All the restaurant's had really good food and was hard to decide which one I wanted to go to. Hopefully able to come back again.

Beautiful resort at the gorgeous beach of Akumal Bay where you can freely snorkel with turtles and observe them in their natural environment. Great food, very nice team and employees and just a great place to enjoy holiday. We can really recommend to visit.

Can not praise this place enough. The staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you. The food is amazing and matched by the location. Rooms are huge and well equipped. Superb pools, stunning beach.

After seeing the mixed reviews we we’re a bit sceptic to visit the resort, although I’m very glad we did. Once we entered the resort it was an very soothing vibe. The staff were amazing, literally amazing. The service was 10/10.

The food on the other hand could get a bit boring after a while, but hey that’s what you sign up for anyways with an all inclusive resort. They definitely switched it up, but it you’re a picky eater like me there’s always fries and loads of pizza.

The location was definitely the thing that made me give 5/5 stars. It was amazing! Right in front of the beach. Be aware of the loads of seaweed, although the beach gets cleaned all day long.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and we will definitely come back!

Outstanding. Probably the best all inclusive I have ever been to. The beach is awesome with amazing snorkelling. I think I made friends with a stingray today. I have been able to easily and effortlessly get loungers on the beach no matter what time of day I arrive. No beach towel cards - they have a guy nearby to exchange any time. No resos needed for a la carte restaurants - great food and drinks. Service on the beach is quick and frequent. Staff have a great attitude and appear to enjoy their work - they seem happy! Amazing penthouse suite with private sundeck and hot tub. We love the 24 hour room service. We will be back for sure and bringing more people. 10/10 would recommend.

Oh my goodness, let me start by saying that this place is beyond beautiful! My boyfriend and I had the absolute best time during our recent visit. We embarked on an incredible snorkeling adventure and discovered some of the most breathtaking reefs. Can you believe it? We saw stingrays, turtles, and an array of fascinating fish. I even had the pleasure of spotting a sea cucumber, which was just remarkable!

And that's not all - we also had the chance to explore one of the cenotes. The staff made everything so convenient and took care of all the arrangements for us. It was a seamless experience!

But wait, there's more! We treated ourselves to the most amazing massage in the most serene setting imaginable. It was pure bliss, with every detail carefully crafted to create the perfect atmosphere for relaxation. We left feeling rejuvenated and completely pampered.

All in all, this place is an absolute gem. The natural beauty, the thrilling activities, and the incredible hospitality make it an unforgettable destination. We have just returned after a two week stay after returning after a 6 year break. The staff are so friendly and attentive, the room was spotless and location is amazing. Wasn’t sure if we would enjoy our trip as much as before but wasn’t disappointed at all. We ate in the buffet restaurant each day and always found something to suit us.
We had a couple of stormy days which left mountains of seaweed on the beach which was cleared daily , the guys worked endlessly to keep it down.
Didn’t spoil being able to use the amazing beach.
We managed to see turtles and rays alongside plenty of species of fish.
It’s a shame that the endless groups of boats take trippers out to the turtles using petrol boats , not good for the environment!!!
You cannot use that part of the sea to view the turtles unless you book , it’s roped off , the security are patrolling the beach constantly to keep watch . It certainly wasn’t that controlling 6 years ago.
That was the only downside , we will definitely return as the hotel and staff are amazing

Hello everyone,

we were from 10.04. until 21.04. at Akumal Beach Resort.
Overall, my wife and I were very satisfied in all areas.
we booked the penthouse 4301 and have nothing to complain about except for a few blemishes.

But I take my time for one thing in particular and that is that I have to take out one employee positively!

I would like to thank our room cleaner "Vicente" for everything he did for us! :)
I have rarely experienced such positive service.
He understood us blindly (despite only basic knowledge of Spanish) and fulfilled our every wish and helped us wherever possible.
Even when you first arrived at the hotel, it was of course worth its weight in gold.

All in all, it was a relaxing trip that definitely gave us a very positive impression of the country and the people of Mexico.
