Centro Ecológico Akumal

Public beach, however there is a 120 pesos fee as it is an ecologic center. The income helps protect the turtles and supports the local community.

There is the option to snorkel with a guarantee to see turtles. My Son and wife did it and indeed they were able to spot several turtles. The tour last about 1.5 hours.

As far as parking when you get to Akumal there is a parking lot for 50 pesos all day or there is the options to pay by hour (20 pesos) next to the ecological center.

One of the best spots you can go to in the area. It's super cheap to get in (they use the money for conservation), and you get to swim with Gigantic Turtles right there on the beach. Everyone was super friendly as well. We got a "guide" to show us around/swim with us/take care of our belongings for $12 USD. We were there for about 2 hours. We will definitely go back.

Place is great, but please follow the rules!!! Saw many that didn't and it bothers me (sunscreen and standing on corals). I want the reef to be open when I get to come back, not see it closed due to negligent tourists.

I spent 6 months volunteering with CEA, and loved every minute of it! The staff was so welcoming and friendly. They helped me find the ways I could best put my talents to work in support of their mission. The Centro Ecologico Akumal is doing such important work to improve the environment, protect marine life and educate people on the importance of both.

Pues como voluntario, ha sido una experiencia realmente productiva, aprendo lo que en ocasiones damos por hecho, sin embargo el fabuloso apoyo y paciencia de Elizabeth Vega, quien nos contagia de su energía, entusiasmo y su sabiduría, he aprendido muchísimo.
