Great little place to go eat amazing breakfast. The eggs were mixed with the bacon which was odd at first but ended up being amazing and the shake was a banana smoothly mixed with milk so it wasn’t overly filling. Our server had a little bit of a hard time communicating with us but she was still super nice.

These are the fish tacos I have been looking for all week, made by Imelda herself. Crazy fresh pico de gallo and chips. 11/10

Really lovely food, made and served by the owner with a smile.

Absolutely delicious hearty food made with intention and love. One of the few small family owned places we could find with very affordable authentic flavor packed food. I got the fajitas with fresh squeezed orange juice and a fanta, and my husband got a burrito and coke which he ate SO FAST. They took note of our diary/cheese allergies and accommodated which was much appreciated. 🥰
We were able to talk to Imelda (I assume), the owner for awhile as we ate. She was so kind and sweet adding to a very welcoming experience. She told us her story of her restaurant and how she has been there for 27 years, as well as the recent trying times of the pandemic and community effort from some women who made a go fund me to help support her restaurant. It is so wonderful to see she was able to make it out with the help of community and people who were also touched by the delicious food and experience here. I hope nothing but more success for Imelda and for everyone to try her food! Thank you for such a delicious meal and talking with us.
We cherish small family owned businesses with amazing food and we hope to be back very soon. ❤

We thoroughly enjoyed our late lunch experience Imelda’s. The food was local and authentic and affordable. Lunch plates are either $7 or $9 (US) and delicious. Fish tacos were great. The fish fillet was also excellent. Staff is so friendly and kind. Place is extremely clean. Right off main Plaza. Just ask around how to find it. Delightful.

Update: Went again for her Friday night only (6pm and on) dinner. Tried the cochinita pibil which is the whole pig that is roasted in ground (similar to Hawaiian style) and then shredded and seasoned with delicious sauce and served in small cazuelas. Very reasonably priced as well at around $12. She also does chili rellenos and tamales on the Friday night dinner. Imelda and Glenda are lovely, hospitable ladies.

Very cute, authentic, clean local spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A simple menu full of great choices. The Jamaica tea was great.

Orange juice is fresh pressed, and that will take a couple of minutes. This place has been our home for breakfast, 13 years, and counting. Staff is always friendly and takes good care of you. Food is delicious and made with love. (Will update review with pics of food, etc.) Update 3 years later. We still love this place and am so happy to see she survived the pandemic with love from her customers and some new business ideas also suggested by customers. She sells her hot suace now! Great place for breakfast, lunch, or you can arrange for pick up.

I am so happy we found Imelda’s while we were staying in Akumal. It’s a warm, family restaurant right off of the plaza near the beach and I appreciated that it was on the quieter side of the plaza and market. We ate as many breakfasts, lunches, and dinners (open later on Friday nights) as we could. For breakfast, the tostadas with eggs are perfect with fresh squeezed orange juice. Specials including the most delicious, lightest chile relleno I’ve ever had. For lunch, super light, crisp fresh fish tacos. I’m so glad we got a chance to try her specials including chicken pozole and cochinita pibil. Everything is made with care and it tastes like the very best home cooking. Thank you, Imelda! We will be back.

Absolutely delicious, fish tacos my girlfriend has been waiting for her entire life. The chicken enchiladas lasted less than 5 minutes. Woman owned business. Recommended to everyone

This restaurant is amazing if you want authentic home cooked Mexico cuisine at very reasonable prices. We went today for breakfast and had wonderful tostadas as well as scrambled eggs Mexicano. We were so pleased with the food quality and the friendly welcoming feel from the family run establishment. I encourage everyone to stop by and support this local business that has been part of the community for over 20 years. We will be back!

Had one of the best meals of our trip at Imelda’s cute place. Imelda is the cook and is helped by her daughter, the dishes are so delicious and typically home made. Extremely reasonable prices , especially more so given it’s location. Imelda and her daughter are also so lovely. Please visit this place and support a hard working local lady who whips up some amazing food 😀

Amazing food, loved it. Home meals. We had fresh fish, which I didn’t even have time to take a photo of, my hubby ate it right away. We also had chicken burritos and enchiladas, all delicious. Highly recommend!

The food was delicious and tasted like a hearty home-cooked meal. We also ordered the hot cakes (no photo, sorry). There was something special about them, like extra butter and vanilla? Whatever it is, they were amazing!
